THREE PEOPLE ARRESTED IN CONNECTION OVER THE CHIBOLYA RIOTS

Three people were arrested in connection with the riot that occurred in Chibolya compound.
On October 23, 2023 between 15:00 hours and 16:00 hours, suspected criminals in the compound ran amok claiming that they were revenging the death of their colleague who died on October 19, 2023 in the same compound.
The suspects are alleged to have gone round armed with machetes targeting to loot some shops within Chibolya.
Upon hearing that Police officers were alerted, they escaped and instead vented their anger on persons they suspected to have called the Police. They hacked five people leaving them with multiple deep cuts on their bodies.
Police officers who rushed to the other scene of the incident found the victims identified as Amos Banda aged 23, Daniel Kalinda aged 25, Martin Mubanga, Innocent Kalima and Nduwayo Jeomorie all aged 28 lying in blood with deep cuts on their bodies. They were rushed to the hospital where they are currently admitted.
In addition, the suspects are alleged to have damaged a windscreen of one motor vehicle, a Nissan Patrol bearing registration number ABM 7601.
Police managed to arrest three suspects who have since been charged with Malicious Damage to Property and Unlawful Wounding. They were identified as David Chanda aged 20, Daniel Kalunga and Gift Menya both aged 22 all of unmarked house numbers in Chibolya compound.
They are detained in Police custody while Investigations have intensified.
