ZAMBIA APOLOGISE AND OWN UP TO K.K & HIS FAMILY
The difference between Kenneth Kaunda and all but one of the past Presidents is his sincerity and honesty. Immediately after he left office rumors were abound about the enormous amount of wealth he had accumulated in the 27 year reign. All these allegations were never proven and nobody has to this day apologized for the false allegations which were made against this noble man. The onus is on Government! Irrespective of which one is in office.
The government media has come under intense criticism because of its lustre coverage of the demise of this Gallant freedom fighter. And rightly so as many veteran journalists have observed, it took a roar of criticism for them to wake up and realise that they had a responsibility to the Zambian people to inform us that ‘Our President’ had passed on.
No amount of tributes will fix the wrong notion of KK being a thief after he left office, the only ‘crime’ he may have committed was overstaying in office and not appreciating that by the late 80’s times had changed. US7 billion was an amount which was tagged on him to have stolen and yet the man did not own a humble abode of his own at the time he left office. Shame on us for not ‘apologising officially’ while he was still alive.
Zambia has had six Presidents and almost all have at one time or another been labelled Thief! During and after their tenure of office has elapsed or after their demise. Of all these Presidents KK stands out as the unblemished. Levy Patrick Mwanawasa comes a close second while I will dwell on the rest.
President Chiluba, RB all went to court and were “acquitted”. President Sata did not have a single day in court probably due to the way he left office. This leave us with the incumbent. Most allegations have not been directed at him but to those very close to him. Ministers, Family and friends have been mentioned in a lot of financial scandals which may one day grace our courts which unfortunately also lack credence.
Today even the children of KK are being ridiculed with jokes of being orphans because they seem not to have opulent lifestyles. This is due to the disciplined life KK instilled in them and none of them have been involved in dubious dealings during or after their father left office. Laugh at them all you like but the “Kaunda Name” they will carry for the rest of their lives and proudly so. Other Former Presidents children may not have such an honour as has been seen with children of “some” former leaders.
It’s never too late to apologise. It is not the ECL government fault but GRZ’s fault. ECL has just found this injustice on the Kaunda Family who are also victims of “NOT HAVING STOLEN WHILE THEY COULD”. Zambia is the laughing stalk in this matter. Zambia own up to KK and his Family. SHAME ON US
