The problem we have in Zambia is that our top leaders are in business, they are shareholders and are doing business instead of providing leadership. They are in government to do business.
But let us learn to speak out and address these many issues. Our people need to grow an intolerance of corruption, injustice, lies, inequalities and intimidation among others.
We believe that our lasting solution to Zambia’s deep economic difficulties does not lie in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). FDIs will not bring about the development that we need. The lasting solution to our crisis does not lie in the IMF or in a debt restructuring deal.
Zambia has to find a new way of developing.
Our lasting solution lies in the collection of fair and adequate revenue from the mining sector for support to secondary industries such as manufacturing.
It lies in the development of the arts, a hugely important industry that those in power today have reduced to a footnote in a ministry!
It lies in increased state support to agriculture and enhanced food security, but those in power today are quicker to listen to the IMF and remove subsidies on farming inputs even when the US and other Western countries till subsidise their own agriculture industry.
It lies in increased state investment to social sectors such as education and health.

This is what we have been feeling for years, and you can’t take 5 years. You are jokers.

I agree with Dr. M’membe on the issue of taxing the mines. FQM siphoned USD2.1billion and invested in a copper mine in Panama. Mr. Kasolo, the former ZCCM-IH Managing Director, tried to pursue the matter and we were winning the case in London but the PF government fired him and the case went cold. FQM behaved most dishonourably over this matter.
Next we heard was that the UPND government had traded the 20% ZCCM-IH shareholding for some 3% (?) of sales payment from FQM, a deal I have failed to understand. We are not getting a fair return on our natural resources. No one ever talks about the emerald industry and how much tax we are getting from that source.
Coming to voting for Dr. M’membe, this would be a disaster from what I have seen of his leadership style. He seems to be the only one who does the talking. The vocal Mr. Antonio Mwanza is nowhere near the microphone. The SG, Mr. Musumali, barely utters a word. It would be interesting to hear what his former coworkers at Post Newspapers have to say about him.
His incessant unfavorable criticism of the President portrays him as one who sees no good in others. His outdated Socialist idealogy makes him come out like someone who is out of touch with reality.
Mr. M’membe would be a dictator and it would be difficult to dislodge him. There is a lesson from history. Hitler ascended to power through the ballot and then went on to wreak havoc not only on Germany but on the world as well.

Meritocracy means you have a proven track record of success in lower ranks of managing Public affairs and now able to be trusted with bigger roles!
If you look at President Xi, you will find that he managed a Province in China before rising to the Presidency! We need this approach in Zambia!
Pragmatism means if a cat is able to catch a mouse, it does not matter what color it is! You don’t get bogged down with ideologies! This is the reason China uses a mixture of ideologies of Capitalism and Socialism, not just one as some want to make us believe!
Honesty is a big thing! Many of our aspiring presidential candidates fail this test from their past track record!
Someone who is a convicted Tax evader is not fit for Public Office!
A Lawyer who defrauded vulnerable clients is supposed to be behind bars like Tax evaders!
If we could be diligent as voters to vote only for leaders who fulfill these criteria, our country would be a better place!
