Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti yesterday refused
to admit a matter without notice in which a United Party for
National Development (UPND) Member of Parliament, Mubita
Anakakoka demanded that the executive should bring to
Parliament a motion to strip former President Edgar Lungu of
his immunity from prosecution.

Nakakoka, the UPND Luena Member of Parliament desirous that
Parliament should move a motion remove the immunity of former
president Lungu to explain to the nation how he acquired his
wealth.

Anakoka raised an urgent matter without notice for government
to bring an appropriate motion to give Lungu an opportunity to
account for his wealth that he was able to gift members of
family property worth billions.

  1. Let bwana Lungu continue eating what he looted during his leadership.
People will force HH to stream him before because HH will be streamed too when Someone after him comes in power.

  2. Edgar Lungu will obviously be a witness in the prosecution of his wife, Esther, who has already said that the source of her millions of dollars and kwacha was her husband. If Edgar Lungu will give a sworn witness statement, he will be cross-examined. An experienced prosecutor can get Lungu to ‘remove his own immunity’. Will our law enforcement agencies be up to the task? I honestly doubt it.

  3. Naturally they go for Nelly Mutti when it’s clear Anakoka is the one that has the balls to suggest the obvious course of action. Nelly is nowhere near that suggestion. We the people of Zambia demand that Lungu must explain in court how he amassed enough wealth to cherry share with every family member and Esther to even give her cousin to “keep” the overflows.

  4. I hope now that forefeiture has been achieved now the criminal case against baEsther will commence so she go in, just like that muchemwa

  5. I am not really for the idea of removal of ECL’ s immunity, but nature is demanding that.If the family members, children and wife claim that they were given by their father and husband then it may be difficult to continue prosecuting them without calling the witness or the provider of resources deemed to be proceeds of crime. He must be subpoenaed by the court or he may apply personally to join the matter in court. But due to his status and immunity the court can write to the speaker or the president then the President can call the Parliament to assemble and he informs the house what is prevailing on the matter concerning the former President. Then the parliament start to debate on the President ‘s address and agree on the necessity of removal of the immunity of the former President. It may be good for ECL to clear his tainted image and possibly to claim the properties and or moneys. He may be allowed to explain how he acquired such huge or colossal amount of money that he was able to share with his family and possibly tell the court how much he reserved for himself so that all is summed up to know how much worthy the dynasty is.

    • Whatever the case , removing his immunity will just bring division in the nation , the end result will affect the nation unity & when there is disunity the nation can’t develop in anyway , a presidency is not a small issue ,nowonder he should be protected even if he comes back to politics , thats how its supposed to be ,our Constitution is frauled on this issue, if he has been a president , still remains former president ,by virtue of holding that power should be given respect nomatter what happens ,. I would not support lifting of the immunity of a president because the end result will not help Zambia but destroy the unity and peace .

  6. It is evident that after Lungu;s first short term, he jumped from having a K2m he declared to 23 million kwachas. Already people in Zambia started talking of Lungu’s corruption. Today you have some of you with short and aborted memory to even think that it is not right to remove his immunity. WHY NOT? The man never thought he would come out of Presidency. He and his minions were doing things against the law at will and in broad daylight because they thought that they had done everything possible to prolonging their hold on power. You cannot be giving family and relatives billions of kwachas when you are running the economy of a country at minus 0.26%. Lungu could not be that reckless that is why he needs to explain his wealth. First, immunity removal is imminent.

  7. The bottom line is that ECL must be made to explain the source of the unparalleled wealth he acquired while in office. If it calls for removal of his immunity, so be it.

  8. Why cant this uneducated MP “move a motion to remove the immunity of HH to explain to the nation how he acquired his wealth?”

  9. The man has said in a statement to the concourt that he a’was not sworn in twice.if you are not swirn in legally how ate you the president of Zambia.
If you are not the legally sworn in president of zambia u have usurped the constitution but futther more there is no immunity to remove because u were never the legal oresident if Zambia
