CITIZENS FIRST PRESIDENT HARRY KALABA CONDEMS THE KILLING OF 15 YEAR OLD CHRISPIN BUNDA BY A ZNS OFFICER
LUSAKA, November 22 – We are saddened to learn about the shooting to death of an innocent 15 year old Chrispin Bunda of Mufulira’s Kankoyo by an officer from Zambia National Service (ZNS).
We have been made to understand that Chrispin met his untimely death when ZNS Officers were conducting an operation to prevent smuggling of mealie meal and ended up using live ammunition in the process.
As Citizens First Party, we would like to condemn in the strongest sense, such inhuman acts of opening fire at unarmed and innocent citizens of this nation in the name of preventing mealie meal smuggling.
We hold the Government of President Hakainde Hichilema totally responsible for the death of Chrispin for being at the forefront of exporting our strategic maize reserves and thereby creating this shortage that they are trying to cure by killing citizens.
The acts of impunity to disregard advice not to export our bumper harvest that the UPND Government inherited is what is leading to such callous and despicable acts of ending human life of an innocent child.
We call on the Police to thoroughly investigate this unfortunate incident and bring everyone responsible to book for the needless loss of Chrispin’s life.
In another sad related incident, we join the Human Rights Commission (HRC) to strongly condemn the alleged torture of a suspect Allan Sikalango to death at Mkushi Police Station in Central Province, on 19th November, 2023.
The reported torturing to death of Mr. Sikalango aged 37 years at Mkushi Police Station is a grave crime and a violation of human rights.
We demand that the perpetrators must be punished and the family of the deceased compensated in order to end impunity.
