Fine mobile operators over booths – Mwale
Former Lusaka Mayor Fisho Mwale has blamed mobile telecommunications companies for proliferation of kiosks in undesignated places because they benefited from the branding of the booths.
Mr Mwale said if anything, local authorities should fine mobile telecommunications firms which offer mobile money services.
He is in support of the move by Lusaka City Council (LCC) to uproot mobile money kiosks from the central business district and in other areas around the city, saying the local authority has legitimate and legal grounds to do so.
A combined team of security personnel from defence and security over the weekend cleared Cairo, Chiparamba, and Cha Cha Cha roads, among others, of mobile money booths.
