FORMER MINISTER OF INFORMATION RONNIE SHIKAPWASHA’S MURDER CASE SENT TO LUSAKA HIGH COURT FOR TRIAL
The murder case involving former Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Ronnie Shikapwasha has been committed to the Lusaka High Court for trial. Lusaka Resident Magistrate Keegan Litiya made the decision after the murder suspect, Jane Lusengo Shikapwasha, appeared before him to explain the charge.
Jane Lusengo Shikapwasha, who is also the widow of the late Lieutenant General Shikapwasha, responded before Magistrate Litiya that she understood the charge. However, she could not enter a plea as the Magistrate Court lacks jurisdiction to try murder cases.
Prior to this development, Mrs. Shikapwasha had appeared before Lusaka Chief Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili for the case’s allocation. Later, Magistrate Chibwili allocated the case to Magistrate Litiya.
Mrs. Shikapwasha was charged on January 20, 2024, following the death of Lieutenant General Shikapwasha on January 15, 2024. It is alleged that she shot Lieutenant General Shikapwasha with a shotgun bearing serial number 168462 on January 14, 2024.
The tragic incident took place at Lieutenant General Ronnie Shikapwasha’s residence on plot number 477 in Lusaka’s IBEX Hill area. Now, the case will proceed to trial in the Lusaka High Court.
