FREEDOM SIKAZWE DENIES LINKS TO MPULUNGU ELECTORAL VIOLENCE

Former Presidential Affairs Minister Freedom Sikazwe has distanced himself from the violence that characterized Mpulungu district yesterday where he is re-contesting the parliamentary seat on the PF ticket.

A video showing fierce fighting in Mpulungu between cadres in PF colors and members of the public has gone viral on social media with a commentator alleging that Mr. Sikazwe had organized cadres from Kasama and Mbala and that they were behind the fracas.

But when contacted for a comment, Mr. Sikazwe said the cadres from Kasama and Mbala districts were in the area for the burial of the District Commissioner’s son in the company PF Mbala Constituency Aspiring Member Of Parliament Charles Sipanje and Northern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Sineva Kambenja.

Mr. Sikazwe tells phoenix news that he does not understand why people are connecting him to the incident when he was also ignorant about the matter.

Meanwhile the opposition UPND has rejected what it says is the misplaced idea, that political differences should in any way be a catalyst for violent tensions in in the country.

UPND Presidential Spokesperson Anthony Bwalya tells Phoenix News that the party is saddened at the escalation of violent political incidences and has since renewed its appeal to the public to immediately refrain from the vice.
