GOVERNMENT URGED NOT TO PAY A BLIND EYE TO POSSIBLE KAONDE / LUNDA SUCCESSION WRANGLES IN MUKUMBI CHIEFDOM

The clan which is heir to the throne of Chief Mukumbi for the Kaonde speaking of Kalumbila district Bena Nzovu have bemoaned lack of development in the Chiefdom owing to the continued succession wrangles that has erupted between the Kaonde and the Lunda speaking people.

Some members of the royal clan who sort to remain anonymous says GOVERNMENT should not pay a blind eye over what is happening in that chief because it’s slowly culminating into a serious ethnic war between the Kaonde and Lunda people.

They said the cause of the wars are the Children to the late Chief Mukumbi -15th that have taken issues of succeeding their father into their own hands.

The royal clan members are of the view that the Kaonde traditional stipulates that in an event that a Chief dies, the next Chief can only be selected from the royal clan by the sub Chiefs within the Chiefdom,a procedure that he alleges is not being followed currently.

They have accused the Children to the late Chief Mukumbi of trying to sneak and install the sister to their father contrary to the provisions of the chiefdom’s tradition and culture.

They stressed that installing the sister to the Chief is not only a tarboo but also an easy move to give away the Chiefdom and traditional land to the Lunda people.

According to them they say Mukumbi Chiefdom belongs to the Kaonde people and they will not allow the Lundas or any tribe to hijack and grab the Chiefdom so easily.

The royal members are alleging that the continued wrangles in the Chiefdom will also deter a number of developmental programs and scare away the would be investors in the Chiefdom

The insist that the clan that belongs to the royal clan should be allowed to choose a correct Chief in order to avoid the ethnicity.

  1. Kkkkk BenaNzovu are not they rightful clan for Mukumbi chiefdom but their concerns should be taken seriously because some Lunda chiefs would like to bring confusion they way they have done in Kanongesha and musele chiefdoms. Government should take keen interest in this issue.
