In a significant shake-up within the Patriotic Front (PF), acting President Miles Sampa has removed several key figures from the party’s central committee and parliamentary leadership roles.

Morgan Ngona and Robert Chabinga have been ousted from the central committee and their roles as leaders of the opposition in parliament, respectively. Additionally, Anthony Mumba and Sibongile Mwamba have been dropped as Chief Whip and Deputy Whip. In their place, Kapamba Mulenga has been appointed as the new Leader of the Opposition, and Brenda Nyirenda as the new Chief Whip.

These changes are aimed at fostering reconciliation and understanding, Sampa also met with former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu yesterday. The meeting was seen as a significant step towards addressing internal disputes and unifying the party’s leadership during a tumultuous period.

Politically, this shake-up and the subsequent reconciliation efforts could reshape Zambia’s political landscape ahead of the 2026 elections. By stabilizing internal party conflicts and presenting a united front, the PF aims to strengthen its position against rival parties.

Sampa’s decisive actions and the meeting with former President Lungu signal an intent to solidify leadership and enhance party cohesion, potentially impacting voter confidence and the party’s overall strategy.
