PUPILS IN MAZABUKA SCHOOLS HIT THE FLOORS AND BRICKS

…as over-enrolment overwhelms school infrastructure

By Evans Liyali

Pupils in some schools of Mazabuka district are sitting on the floor and bricks due to lack of desks.

A Byta FM News crew that checked Ndeke Primary and Secondary School found some pupils sitting on the floor and bricks during class sessions due to shortage of desks.

School Head teacher, Elita Hankede said the school needs over 250 desks to address the shortage and accommodate over two thousand pupils.

Hankede says the school is overwhelmed with high enrollment following the free education policy which has seen pupils that dropped out return to school.

And Mazabuka District Commissioner, Oliver Mulomba assured the school that government will soon address the challenge.

He says government does not wish to have pupils to sitting on the floor.
