Zimbabwe Election 2023: ZANU PF Urges Nelson Chamisa, CCC To Seek Legal Recourse In Face Of Result Dispute

ZANU PF, the ruling party in Zimbabwe, has responded to the opposition, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa’s discontent over the recently concluded general election results.

Incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa, representing ZANU PF, secured a second term with 52.6 percent of the vote.

CCC Accuses Election Commission of Releasing “Incorrect” Outcome
The CCC has accused the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of releasing an “incorrect” outcome, fueling their rejection of the election results.

The opposition party believes that the delayed delivery of voting materials in major cities on election day was a deliberate tactic to suppress voter turnout.

ZANU PF Calls For Legal Recourse As Nelson Chamisa, CCC Challenge Results
In response to the opposition’s dissatisfaction, ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa emphasized the importance of seeking legal recourse and upholding the constitution.

He warned against resorting to violence or insurrection, urging Chamisa to utilize the existing legal systems for conflict resolution.

Mutsvangwa stated,

“What would be wrong is to go the Trump way where you then say I want to address a situation by an insurrection or by violence. That, of course, would not be right because you are now trying to go against the Constitution”.

Mutsvangwa acknowledged the opposition’s right to approach the courts and expressed ZANU PF’s commitment to abide by court rulings, even if they may be painful.

Mutsvangwa further added,

“If they go to the courts, it is their right, and judges have a right to adjudicate. We, as ZANU PF, as much as it may be painful or otherwise, will always try to abide by the rulings of the courts”.
