AFCON WINNERS NOT PRAISED – CHRIS KATONGO, WORRIES.
2012 AFCON winner, Christopher Katongo is concerned about the Chipolopolo National Team not receiving the well-deserved attention and recognition they need since the Historical Victory.🏆
In 2012, Zambia was crowned as the AFCON winner after qualifying to the finals and beating Ivory Coast where the great Didier Drogba was also playing.
Since being crowned, the Chipolopolo have received less attention and nothing much has been done in order to celebrate the great event in the History of Zambian Football.
In a Facebook post released on the 9th March, 2023, Chris highlighted many things that have not been done in order to celebrate Zambian Football. Katongo cites people such as Denis Liwewe, the Great Kalu and Godfrey Chitalu as being among those who have not been honored and celebrated after making major contributions to the football history.
In order for the Zambian Football history to be preserved, Katongo⚽ has called on the relevant authority to celebrate the 2012 AFCON anniversary and other important sporting victories in the same manner that the country celebrates annual historical days such as Heroes and Independence day.
His post is on his page Christopher Katongo and we have posted a screenshot aswell.

Rubbish. West African countries have won Afcon more than five times and they are not making noise.
And i had a lot of respect for Katongo kanshi ni empty brains. Football is a job and you got your pay. How come pilots, doctors, bankers, farmers, all who have made it in their chosen careers do not cry for “special” recognition from govt or the public. I guess the difference is level of Education mwe.You benefited from your career, if you did not invest wisely stop expecting handouts from others.
How much do you want to be praised?
You got your hefty bonuses and pay.
You have to move on.
Even world cup winners are praised at the
Time they win.
Katongo if you are broke just go and look for a job as a coach. Stop looking for perpetual handouts for a victory from over 10 years ago. It was celebrated enough for its time.
