AS the number of presidential candidates today swelled to eight, the Electoral Commission of Zambia has cautioned the Leadership Movement Party members against wearing military regalia.

ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Patrick Nshindano has told Leadership Movement President Dr. Richard Silumbe to stop his supporters from wearing their party regalia ahead of the 12th August polls.

He says this is because of the similarities it has with military clothing.

Mr Nshindano says the regalia has the potential to cause electoral violence during elections.

He said this after chasing the supporters when Dr. Silumbe successfully filed in his nomination at Mulungushi Conference Centre.

But in addressing the press, Dr. Silumbe says he will not change his party regalia because he sees nothing wrong with it.

Meanwhile, National Restoration Party leader Steven Nyirenda did not file nomination papers because of lacking some essential documents, which the Commission did not disclose.

Mr. Nyirenda has however been given another date before the end of the exercise to complete the exercise.

So far, 8 of the 20 Presidential Candidates who paid nomination fees have successfully filed in their papers.

On Wednesday, Four Presidential Candidates are expected to file in their nominations among them UPND President Hakainde Hichilema, DP’s President Harry Kalaba, Socialist Party President Dr. Fred Mmembe and Party for National Unity and Progress President Highvie Hamududu.

Zambia goes to the polls on August 12, 2021.
