THREE MINISTRY OF HEALTH OFFICIALS FACE ARREST

By Darius Choonya

The Anti-Corruption Commission has revealed that it intends to arrest three more officials from the Ministry of Health, in relation to the procurement scandal of 50 ambulances at the Ministry.

This is in a matter in which former Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary in-charge of Technical Services, Dr. Kennedy Malama, with five others, are accused of failing to comply with applicable law and procedure in the procurement of the said ambulances.

The five are Dr. Francis Bwalya, Dr. Muzaza Nthele, Rabbeca Njobvu, Dr. Maximillian Bweupe, and Wilson Lungu.

In an application before the Lusaka Magistrates court, the Commission says the arrest of the said officials will enable the matter to proceed to trial.

But one of the accused lawyers, Makebi Zulu, has expressed worry over the delay to commence trial.

Mr. Zulu says it is clear that whilst the matter is before court, the state has continued to investigate the case.

The application by the commission follows the decision by the Director of Public Prosecution-DPP, Lillian Siyuni, to have the matter prosecuted. See less
