THE Anti-voter apathy (AVAP) Executive Director Mr. Richwell Mulwani has commended the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) for banning the political campaign road shows that proved to be a source for political violence.

Speaking to the media shortly after the ECZ announced their decision, Mr. Sulwani praised the ECZ for proving that they have teeth to bite when a need arises.

“As AVAP we are happy with the decision ECZ has made because the road shows were proving to be a source of political violence. Many people may be wondering why we are happy, let me take this opportunity to remaind the nation that as AVAP we are against voter apathy and one element that encourages voter apathy is political violence. The lesser the cases of political violence the more number of people who vote,” said Mr. Mulwani.

The Anti-voter apathy Director further commended the ECZ for proving that they have teeth to bite by banning the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) and the United Party For National Development (UPND) who are the two largest political parties in the nation.

“One thing we have realized is that people don’t understand how big and difficult this decision was for the ECZ to make. Banning a ruling party from campaigning is never easy. The PF and UPND are the biggest political parties and ECZ have proved how courageous and serious they are with conducting a free, fair and violence free election” added the AVAP Executive Director.

The ECZ on Tuesday the 15th of June 2021 banned both the PF and the UPND from campaigning in selected districts and banned all political campaign road shows.
