BUS AND TAXI OWNERS CALL FOR RELIEF FUNDS FROM GOVT

By Tinkerbel Mwila

The Bus and Taxi Owners Association of Zambia is calling on government to consider providing relief funds to all public transport sector players as a way of cushioning them against the rise in the cost of operations.

This follows the increase in the cost of petroleum products which has adversely affected the cost of operations for the public transport sector.

Association Spokesperson Amis Daudi says the sector is populated by small scale operators who may be out of business if nothing is done to abate the situation.

He explains that there has been an upward adjustment of all statutory fees in the sector that has led to the public transport sector underperforming.
