COURT DISMISSES M’MEMBE’S APPLICATION

The LUSAKA Magistrate Court has dismissed an application for bench warrant against Inspector General of Police GRAPHEL MUSAMBA for non-appearance in court in a matter where Socialist Party leader FRED M’MEMBE has cited him for defamation.

LUSAKA Magistrate CHRISPINE HAMPUNGANI has ruled that Mr. MUSAMBA must be accorded leniency as this is the first time he has failed to show up in court over the matter.
The application for bench warrant was filed by Dr. M’MEMBE’s lawyer.

This is in a matter where Dr. M’MEMBE has sued Mr. MUSAMBA for defamation before the LUSAKA Magistrate Court.

In a complaint filed on AUGUST 12, Dr. M’MEMBE alleged that Mr. MUSAMBA defamed him by accusing him of inciting anarchy and breach of peace in ZAMBIA.

He alleged that Mr. MUSAMBA uttered the words during a press briefing on August 8, 2023.

Dr. M’MEMBE has claimed that he believes Mr. MUSAMBA’s words are defamatory in nature.

Meanwhile former Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA Commissioner General KINGSLEY CHANDA and former ZRA Director of Administration CALLITUS KAOMA have pleaded not guilty to charge of Abuse of Authority of Office.

Mr. CHANDA and Mr. KAOMA took plea this morning before LUSAKA Principal Magistrate SYLVIA MUNYINYA.

The two were arrested in June and charged with Abuse of Authority of Office.

This was allegedly on account of their willful failure to comply with the law and procedure in the disposal of 22 disused ZRA vehicles between January 2017 and December 2020.
