KENNETH DAVID KAUNDA

KK TO BE BURIED AT HIS RESIDENCE…soldiers to start preparing burial site this afternoon

The government has mobilised soldiers to start preparing the burial site for the late statesman Dr Kenneth Kaunda, who will be buried next to his late wife Mama Betty, at their residence in State Lodge, Lusaka.

Government and family have agreed to bury Dr Kaunda at his residence, saying that was his wish.

“What we can confirm is that KK will be buried next to his wife at the residence in Lusaka. Soldiers have been mobilised and will be going to the residence to prepare the burial site for the founding Father,” sources said. “The government and family have actually agreed that he should be buried there and not Memorial Park, which is the usual resting place for our presidents.”

The late statesman died at 97-years of age in Maina Soko Hospital, two days ago after suffering from pneumonia.

Dr Kaunda was the country’s founding President, having guided the country through the independence struggle which was attained in 1964, leading the country until 1991.

Efforts to talk to the late president’s aide Roderick Ngolo and Secretary to the Cabinet Dr Simon Miti failed as their phones went unanswered.
