It has been over 24 hours since Petauke Central Independent Member of Parliament, Hon. Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda, was abducted and remains missing.
We noted a preliminary statement from the Zambia Police that raises more questions than answers.
Further, this matter comes shortly after the house of Mambilima MP, Hon. Jean Chisenga mysteriously caught fire and was entirely consumed.
Both Hon. Chisenga and Hon. Emmanuel JJ Banda have recently received public threats from the UPND leadership and cadres.
Hon. Emmanuel JJ Banda is a member of Parliament, a people’s representative, a sacred and revered position of significance in any nation in the world.
But we are rather surprised and shocked at the response by State House.
Instead of receiving a statement of concern about this sad development from President Hakainde Hichilema and State House, the nation has been subjected to dirty propaganda churned and spewed out by Koswe Media, owned and run by State House Press Analyst, Mr. Brian Mwiinga, and run largely by the State House Media team.
In their Pastoral Statement on the State of the Nation – November 2023, with a theme, “Hear O my people and I will admonish you…” Psalms 81:8, the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB), among other things, advised President Hakainde Hichilema to close the rogue media organisations he was running at State House.
The ZCCB expressed concern that Hichilema’s rogue media were defaming persons and private citizens that left victims without recourse to the law or justice and this media was perpetrating dangerous propaganda that could harm and plunge the nation into chaos and lawlessness.
The call by the Bishops was met by more insults and ridicule by the State House rogue media.
Both the Zambia Police Inspector General of Police and ZICTA Director General have refused to deal with the rogue online pages run by State House.
How could they? They are helpless appointees of President Hichilema.
And true to these concerns, State House rogue media spent the whole night scandalising and defaming Hon Emmanuel JJ Banda and trashing the claims of his abduction.
Yet in this case, Hon. Banda is missing. His family is struck with fear of his where-abouts and are engaged in fervent prayer, praying for the safe return of their son, husband and father.
The State House rogue online newspapers have also been publishing articles that dissuade serious Police investigations and urging the Police to shift focus to their arch-enemy, former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
Further, there is a clear and deliberate campaign to play down the importance of this heinous crime committed against Hon. Emmanuel Banda as seen by the reporting by ZNBC, an institution that should be a public broadcaster.
Our call is that President Hichilema must lead in this matter and help with the immediate and safe return of Hon. Banda.
President Hichilema must direct all police and security agencies to join forces in investigating and seeking to establish the whereabouts of Hon. Banda.
The focus of everyone should be on the safe return of Hon. Banda and partisan politics must be cast away during this period of deep concerns.
It must be made very clear that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be caught, today, or tomorrow or in future and be brought before Justice.
Zambia now has installed surveillance cameras both public and private and on all toll gates and this must be a start for the Zambia Police investigating this matter.
We call upon our Members of Parliament to keep vigil on this matter and raise activities that should focus on the safe return of their colleague, a member of Parliament.
We also call upon the Church to conduct prayers of vigil for the life and safe return of the Hon. Banda.
We urge members of the public to join not only in prayers, but also in advocacy for the safe return of Hon. Banda.

Mwamba you want HH to physically go looking fir JJ? Are you serious to demean the head of state like that? This is a job for the police not the president. Can you clarify why you are accusing the state. Is this not based on the same nonsense Tayali tried to pull. As for the burning of the mp s house that could have been an electrical fault.
Cheap Propaganda. Baseless claims with no concrete evidence. So immediately someone’s house burns down its HH? How does burning down the house of an individual advance their cause? Most people don’t even know who the MP who lost her house is.

That’s the problem with you Mwamba, the whole of your group is just seated at the police station and you are saying you find JJ Banda. Whom are you telling to find him and where, maybe your yourself you know. Have you ever seen a president looking for a missing person? Is he the police? During your time, many people were gassed and others even lost their lives and yet you failed to find the gassers and up to now you have not told us who those people were and Lungu never uttered any statement on it. Why are you now making too much noise on one individual? Are lives of the people not the same? Every life matters, and the disappearance of the MP will be investigated as a Zambian citizen and not as a PF, UKA or an independent MP. Why can’t you just keep quiet and wait for the police to do their job. Moreover there is no need of crowding and waiting from from a police station just because the vehicle of the missing person was found near their station. We only gather and wait at the airport for updates if the flight on which our loved one was flying on is missing.
Is it the president who told Banda and ba PF to be moving between one wife to the other in the middle of the night? Did he have security as MP? Anyone would be scared to move around that time? So, ba PF stop wasting our time. We are busy with the economy. Zambia has got more that 20 million people; all of whom requires support not just Banda or ba PF
I think one region of this country has a big problem. I wonder how they will stay in this country in the coming few years. They are heartless, their interest is to divide the country. Ambassador Mwamba has written a very good and normal article but because people form this certain region hate Bembas and Bemba speaking, they are just insulting Mwamba. Just wait your time is coming you cry your great grand moms! People from this certain region are now silently isolated because of mistreating of people from other regions. But the coming years, they will publicly be very isolated. They should not blame anybody. How can normal people celebrate disappearance of a human being, an adult? God will punish you to hell!

On one of the video clips at the police station Mwamba is heard saying the MP who is alledged missing is the former President’s MP in PF.
Can we kindly be informed why ss he is an currently representing his constituency as an independent Candidate and I believe it is registered so.
Does this mean therefore he was sponored by the same claimed sponsor to remove the then encumbant seat holder.
It is funny how the internal back stubbimg is coming out as a can of worms is opened in public and the comedy of decisions begin to add up. This is like classic knocking off of one serving MP for another one. Mob style.
