FRA COMMENDED OVER NEW MAIZE PRICE.

By Ludia Phiri(Venus Publishers)

LOCAL Researcher and Smart Agriculture Expert Oliver Bulaya has welcomed the new price of Maize for the 2022/23 season that has been announced by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).

Dr.Bulaya says the new floor price represents a 100 percent increment, from the price that was set last year, adding that the K280 was representative of a price that can enable the farmers to plan adequately for the next farming season.

Dr. Bulaya adds that the price will help the farmers to reinvest into production of the staple food crop and will also help in easy purchase of inputs.

Dr. Bulaya has however noted that this year’s harvest will be affected by the late distribution of farming inputs.

He has since called on FRA to ensure that the Agency pays farmers on time so that they can plan properly for maize production.

The Food Reserve Agency has announced this year’s maize buying price as K280 for a 50 kilogram bag of maize.
