Freedom fighter, Christine Mulundika, has been granted a three day period of national mourning.

She died on Sunday 13th March 2022 at the age of 80 at her residence in Lusaka’s Northmead area.

Acting Secretary to Cabinet Patrick Kangwa says President Hichilema has accorded the state funeral to Mrs. Mulundika for her contribution to the freedom struggle and national development.

Mr. Kangwa further says President Hichilema is saddened by the death of Ms. Mulundika and has since extended condolences to the bereaved family.

The late Mrs. Mulundika will be buried on Saturday 19th March 2022 at Leopards Hill Memorial Park in Lusaka.

The national mourning for Mrs Mulundika is from March 17, 2022.
Mrs Mulundika was among the few gallant women who contributed to the independence struggle of Zambia.

She also championed the removal of the restrictive section which hindered freedom of association and expression in the Public Order Act.

Instead of Zambians applying for permission to assemble and express themselves, Mrs Mundika won a Supreme Court which empowered citizens to notify the Police about their intentions.
