GOVT APPOINTS MINE MANAGER AT BLACK MOUNTAIN

Ministry of Mines and Minerals has appointed a Mine Manager to supervise, direct and control mining operations at the Black mountain following a riot at the site.

Byta FMs Womba Kasela reports that government handed over part of the black mountain to cooperatives owned by Zambian youths and women who were granted licenses to operate.

Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe explains that the riot which occurred on 15th March, 2022 erupted when chrome pickers were granted two hours picking time daily which he says did not sit well with chrome hand pickers.

Kabuswe however, expects that sanity will be retained at the site following the appointment of a Mine manager which he says is in line with the Mines and development Act Number 11 of 2015 and Mining regulations of 2016.

He has further issued a stern warning to all miners and chrome and pickers that government will not condone any unruly behaviour in the exploitation of the mineral resources at the mountain.
