Opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema has settled for Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader Felix Mutati as his running mate ahead of the August 12, general elections.
In what appears to be total betrayal to loyal Mutale Nalumango, Hichilema in the quest to win a Bemba vote has decided to go for user friendly Mutati leaving out over ambitious Kelvin Bwalya Fube popularly known as KBF.
Not until today, KBF was seen to be the most favorable to take over the leadership of the newly formed alliance called the Zambia We Want.
But surprisingly, Hichilema with his scornful approach to politics with his divide and rule, has gone for Mutati whom he thinks is more friendly and easy to manipulate leaving out talkative and over ambitious KBF with his Zambia Shall Prosper movement in limbo.
According to sources with the UPND and Hichilema’s close allies, Mutati is expected to be unveiled tomorrow at a press briefing.
However, its’ not yet clear where KBF, a renowned Lusaka lawyer, who once wanted to take over the leadership of the PF when he suggested that President Edgar Chagwa Lungu was not eligible for the August election will go.
Efforts to get in touch with both Hichilema and Mutati proved futile as their phones went unanswered as they were locked in a meeting finalizing their deal.-Watch Zambia
