JAY JAY BANDA ASKS LOCAL GOVERNMENT TO PUT COUNCILORS ON MONTHLY SALARIES

By Steward Simutowe

Petauke constituency Member of Parliament Jay Banda has asked the ministry of Local government to consider putting councilors on monthly salaries.

Mr Banda charged that councilors in his constituency are faced with alot of financial constraints owing to the fact that big problems from the community members are always presented to them which they end up failing to solve.

Speaking before the floor of the house on Wednesday 30th March 2022, Mr Banda said that inspite of playing huge roles in Communities, councilors are sometimes denied to even access loans from the banks because they are considered as part-time workers who only depend on the allowances from the councils.

Mr Banda who is also the Chief Whip for the Independent MPs at Parliament says that it will be of great help if the local government and Rural Development ministry can have a law which will allow Councilors to be put on payrolls as full time workers at local authorities.

The Law maker noted that councilors deserve to be paid well by local authorities so that they may continue acting well as links between the people in Communities and the councils in making sure that development and service delivery at local level may be attained.- Muvi TV
