K4 MILLION MANYANYA ROBBERY SUSPECTS IN COURT.

Two suspects in the Manyanya robbery incident that occurred in May of this year have appeared in court.

Solomon Sibomana, 37, a Congolese National and a resident of Garden House in Lusaka, and Franky Manginza also aged 37 of Chawama Compound in Lusaka appeared in court on Friday morning for an explanation of the charges of murder, Attempted murder, and aggravated robbery.

Nakonden Resident Magistrate Alice Walusiku has since adjourned the matter to July 28, 2023, for mention as the court awaits instructions from the Director of public prosecution.

On May 17, 2023, a Tanzanian businessman of Mwaka area was robbed of K4 Million cash at the Manyanya complex on the Zambian side.

He was in the company of a taxi driver, Wiseman Elias, and was taking the money for banking to ABSA bank on the Zambian side.

During the attack, the robbers shot at a customer Benjamin Silungwe who sustained a gunshot wound on the stomach and later died while in admission at Chinsali General Hospital, and Ireen Asubisya who was shot in the lower abdomen and fortunately survived.

A month and some two weeks later, the duo was arrested by a joint team of officers from Nakonde police and the Ati-Robbery Squad of Lusaka.

Before now, the police did not issue any official statement.

On June 29, 2023, a sum of K20,000 cash, a star pistol, a Toyota Isis with registration number BLB 8432, a Samsung digital camera, and a Dell laptop were recovered in Lusaka.

Further investigations led the team to Eastern Province where K80,000 cash was recovered bringing the total money to K169,300.

The investigations led to the apprehension of the two suspects.

The duo will have to be trialed by a higher court.

In 2021, a similar incident was witnessed on the same spot when workers for the Manyanya group of companies were attacked on their way to cash in money at the bank.

The lead suspect Jason Simbeye was arrested within 24 hours and was last year slapped with a death sentence by the Chinsali High Court.
