Katumbi Optimistic Of Victory In Wednesday’s Polls

Popular opposition Congo Ya Makasi coalition candidate Moïse Katumbi has expressed confidence he will beat incumbent Fèlix Tshisekedi in the 2023 General Elections to become the Democratic Republic of Congo’s new president.

Katumbi has been widely tipped as the favourite to win the polls set for Wednesday, 20 December having managed to pull larger crowds over Tshisekedi who has had a torrid time on his campaign.

The Ensemble Pour la Republique party leader, backed by four other candidates, has since asserted his optimism to win the elections ahead of Tshisekedi.

Speaking at a well-attended campaign rally in Kolwezi, Lualaba Province on Thursday, Katumbi described Tshisekedi as the weakest candidate in the presidential race.

“The weakest candidate today is Felix Tshisekedi, look at my images and compare to the images of Felix Tshisekedi […]. And we are going to win these elections because there is a rejection of the population towards Mr. Tshisekedi, the real opponent of Mr. Tshisekedi today is the Congolese population,” Katumbi said.

Hundreds of Kolwezi residents on Thursday turned up for Katumbi’s meeting with business in the provinvial capital city of Lualaba coming to a halt.-DRC News Today
