KAUNDA’S BURIAL SITE IN TWIST AS FAMILY WANTS STATE TO RESPECT HIS WISH OF BEING BURRIED NEXT TO WIFE.
The Mast Newspaper of 4th July 2021 reports that the family of the late First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda is in conflict with government over his burial site.
According to the paper which is quoting Kaweche Kaunda the son to the late 97 year old late president, his wish was to be buried next to his wife but government announced that he will be buried at the presidential burial site which is the embassy park opposite cabinet office.
The family has urged the state to honour Dr. Kaunda’s wish to be buried next to his wife who died before him.
Dr. Kaunda’s wife Mama Betty is buried at their government built state Lodge mansion in Lusaka.
The Kaunda family also hinted that the family and government did not conclude on whether Dr. Kaunda’s body be transported to all provinces as announced by vice president Inonge Wing.
The statement was however quickly difused by the family who later allowed the status quo to remain as such.
Dr. Kaunda died who ruled Zambia from 1964 ‐ 1991 died on the 17th of June 2021 at Maina Soko military hospital where he was admitted.
He is expected to be buried on the 7th of July 2021
