CHIEF JUSTICE IREEN MAMBILIMA

LATE JUSTICE IRENE MAMBILIMA TO BURIED TODAY

Late Chief Justice Irene Mambilima will be buried today at Lusaka’s Leopards Hill Memorial Park.

President Lungu has declared today a day of national mourning in honour of the late Irene Mambilima who died in Egypt’s Capital Cairo after an illness where she had gone on official duty.

And president Edgar Lungu in his farewell message to the late Chief Justice wrote the following on his Facebook page:

“Today as we bid a final farewell to our Chief Justice, Her Lordship Irene Mambilima, I remember an astute woman who stood for justice and fairness, regardless of the circumstances.” He said

“This is a woman who stood for justice 10 years ago, when our country reached a critical political turning point, and she has left at a time when the nation still needed her.

Her bravery in defence of justice is her enduring and unfading legacy. Her guiding light in our justice system will not go off although she is now no longer with us.

Our country has not only lost a giant pillar in the legal profession, but a humble and wonderful human being who was loved by many across the nation.

And as a woman who served in that high office, Justice Mambilima was, and will remain an inspiration to many young women and girls who dare to dream.” Said President Edgar Lungu.
