LUNGU IN COURT FOR DEFAMING HH

A 42-YEAR-OLD Livingstone taxi driver Morris Lungu has appeared in court for defaming President Hakainde Hichilema.

Lungu, who appeared in chambers before magistrate Mukela Mbololwa on Monday, was arrested on February 4 and faces one count of defamation of the President contrary to section 69 of the penal code chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the matter are that Lungu of ME 179 Maramba residential area on January 12, 2022 with intent to bring the name of President Hichilema into hatred, ridicule or contempt did publish defamatory or insulting matter by word of mouth to which he said: “If there is a President who is a fool it is the one who is there. Call him and tell him that his t×××××les.”

Lungu has since been remanded in custody.
