Education Minister Douglas Siakalima has disclosed that majority of people employed as teachers, clinical officers and nurses in most public institutions are unqualified.

Giving a ministerial statement in Parliament this morning, Mr. Siakalima says combined investigations by the Examination Council of Zambia-ECZ and the Zambia police has revealed that most of them do not have grade certificates and that investigations are still going on in some cases.

Meanwhile, Mr. Siakalima has revealed that the ministry of education has been given treasury authority to recruit the much talked about 30, 000 teachers as a way of transforming Zambia’s education system to international standard.

Mr. Siakalima says his ministry will continue with annual recruitment of teachers as a way of closing the gap in the teacher pupil teacher ratio which now stands at one teacher to seventy pupils.
