MALAWIAN NEW DAWN TO INCREASE FUEL PRICES, LIKE ZAMBIA

By NewsMakers

The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has said pump prices will l be increased once President Lazarus Chakwera institutes a new MERA board.

According to a statement released by MERA, the increase is due to an increase in cost of transporting fuel to Malawi and due to the tension between Russia and Ukraine.

The key determinants of the landed costs of petroleum products are the exchange rate of the Malawi Kwacha against the United States Dollar and the Free on Board prices of refined petroleum products on the international market.

Meanwhile, the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) in Zambia also announced earlier this week that fuel prices will be increased next month to reflect the true costs, owing to tension between Russia and Ukraine.
