The opposition UPND has welcomed the decision by the Electoral Commission Zambia –ECZ- to suspend patriotic front member Chishimba Kambwili from participating in any electoral activity for breaching the electoral code of conduct.

The ECZ yesterday suspended Mr. Kambwili from all political activities following his tribal remarks issued while on a PF campaign trail on the Copperbelt, where he accused all Tongas of belonging to the opposition UPND which is against the electoral code of conduct.

Commenting on the development, UPND Presidential Spokesperson Anthony Bwalya says tribalism and those who propagate the agenda have no place in Zambian politics or society and has thanked ECZ for acting swiftly and decisively in national interest and has urged the police to do the same in this matter.

Meanwhile, Hope for Africa International Executive Director Chazingwa Daka has commended ECZ for suspending Mr. Kambwili saying it is disappointing to see people breaking the law with impunity, busy promoting tribalism and hate speech, going to an extent of holding rallies and road shows even when such activities were banned by ECZ.

And Chief Mapanza of the Tonga speaking people of Choma district has challenged President Edgar Lungu and paramount chief Chititmukulu to caution Mr. Kambwili over his tribal attacks which have the potential to ignite civil war.
