Nigerian President-Elect

By Dickson Jere

The man defending the President-Elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on BBC Radio is a proper spin-doctor. He has answers to every question but does not answer anyway…

Little paraphrased version below;

Reporter: How old is the President? What is his true age?
HIM: He is certainly older than me but age does not matter. It is just a number. We have countries ruled by young people and yet they have failed and we also have countries with older people that have also failed…so age is nothing.

Reporter: There is a concern that the President is very unwell. He was in London for a longtime for treatment. What is he suffering from?
HIM: The President is not sick, he certainly has health issues which every man in his 70s has but not much to worry about.

Reporter: So what was he being treated for in London?
HIM: Nothing serious….if he went to have his knee worked on, is that a serious health issue? No, it is not.

Reporter: Concerns have been raised that his hand shakes and shows signs of Parkinson’s disease…
HIM: I am not his doctor but all I can say is that he in good health, he talks well and he will deliver…
