Zimbabweans Bash Thabo Mbeki For Claiming The Zimbabwean Opposition Staged The 2008 Xenophobic Attacks In SA

Zimbabweans have bashed former South African President Thabo Mbeki for claiming that the MDC staged the 2008 xenophobic attacks.

Mbeki made the claims during a student event at the University of South Africa (Unisa) in Pretoria. In May 2008, a wave of xenophobic violence swept from Alexandra, Johannesburg, resulting in the deaths of at least 62 people, injuries to 1,700 others, and the displacement of 100,000 individuals.

Thabo Mbeki Says The Zimbabwe Opposition Orchestrated The 2008 Xenophobic Attacks
Mbeki said the attacks were part of a planned operation to force Zimbabweans to return home and vote against then-President Robert Mugabe.

The 2008 election in Zimbabwe saw opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai and Mugabe fail to secure a 50% majority, leading to a runoff in June. According to Mbeki, foreign nationals from across Africa had long lived in Alexandra peacefully, including many Zimbabweans and Mozambicans.

“Historically, the African community here (referring to South Africa) has never been xenophobic about other Africans. In 2008 all manner of troubles broke out in Alexandra township in Johannesburg, attacks on these foreigners, particularly Zimbabweans,” Mbeki said.

“That thing was organised to drive the Zimbabweans out of the country back to Zimbabwe because there were elections in Zimbabwe. People were out, because they were going against Bob. It was wrong. It was organised, systematic and for political purposes.”

He added that the violence spread to other areas, with people promoting xenophobic and Afrophobic sentiments.

Mbeki, who was president from 1999 to 2008, said he realised that the attacks did not reflect the true nature of the township he knew.

“Alexandra, for decades, has had Zimbabweans and Mozambicans and so on. There was never this kind of conflict. Why?” he asked.

He disclosed that the government had an intelligence report detailing the events, which included names, dates, and locations of meetings where the operation was planned.

Zimbos Dismiss The Former SA Leader
People online contended with Former South African President Thabo Mbeki’s claims that the Zimbabwean opposition planned the 2008 xenophobic attacks.

Mtemo:

“This is very wrong. For someone who has stayed in SA, I can confirm that some SAs really hate us.”

Voice:

“Politicians are good at playing this blaming game…… they don’t wanna be accountable for their actions.”

Tukaz:

“When Tsvangirai was still alive, why didn’t you say this?”

Duchess:

“Xenophobia was purely an act by South Africans, and it was horrific… so u wanting to support Mbeki’s claims just because you hate the OPPOSITION is equally xenophobic.”

Tapiwa:

“One of the most offending lines I have ever heard. It never gets better with President “No Crisis” Mbeki. Who in their right set of mind would encourage lacing pregnant women with burning tyres?”

Hearing into Man City’s 115 charges to begin on Monday; Pep maintains innocent stance

0

The much-anticipated hearing into Manchester City’s 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules is set to begin on Monday.

Manager Pep Guardiola, while acknowledging the pressure from rival clubs, has reiterated the club’s stance of innocence in the matter.

The reigning Premier League champions were charged in February 2023 after a four-year investigation by the league into financial activities between 2009 and 2018. City deny all the allegations and maintain that their case is backed by “irrefutable evidence.”

Speaking ahead of the hearing, Guardiola addressed comments from La Liga president Javier Tebas, a frequent critic of City, who claims that many Premier League clubs believe the club should be punished.

“I have spoken with many Premier League clubs and most of them understand that City should be sanctioned,” Tebas was quoted as saying by Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo. In response, Guardiola stated, “For the first time I agree with Tebas. All the Premier League teams want us to be sanctioned, that is for sure. But that’s why I say to Mr. Tebas and the Premier League teams, wait for the independent panel.”

He added, “Justice is there in a modern democracy. It’s not more complicated than that.”

The Premier League has accused City not only of financial misconduct but also of failing to cooperate fully with the investigation. The charges stem from allegations that were initially published by German newspaper Der Spiegel, which were based on hacked City emails. At the time, the club described the claims as “entirely false” and out of context.

If found guilty, City could face severe consequences, including points deductions, relegation, or even expulsion from the Premier League. Despite the weight of the charges, Guardiola expressed his confidence in the legal process: “Everybody is innocent until guilt is proven. So we’ll see.”

Described as sport’s “trial of the century,” the hearing is expected to last ten weeks, with a verdict likely in early 2025. Guardiola, for his part, is eager for the process to move forward. “It starts soon and hopefully finishes soon,” he said. “An independent panel will decide, and I am looking forward to the decision. I’m happy it’s starting on Monday.”

City, owned by the Abu Dhabi-backed City Football Group, has enjoyed immense success since their 2008 takeover, winning eight Premier League titles, multiple domestic cups, and the UEFA Champions League. However, their financial practices have long been a source of contention for rival clubs, particularly Tebas, who has repeatedly accused City and Qatar-backed Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) of “financial doping.”

As the hearing begins, Guardiola is keen to see the matter resolved, urging patience and faith in the judicial process. “We believe we have not done anything wrong,” he affirmed, underscoring the club’s steadfast denial of the charges.

UK accounting giant PwC faces six-month China ban

0

PwC’s Chinese arm has been suspended from the country for six months over its work on the collapsed Chinese property giant Evergrande.

The Big Four accountancy firm is also being fined more than $62m (£47m) after Chinese authorities said it had helped cover up fraud at Evergrande.

The real estate firm went into liquidation in January under a mountain of debt.

PwC said it was “disappointed” by its Chinese unit’s work, which it said had fallen “unacceptably below the standards” expected within PwC.

The Chinese authorities said PwC knew there were “major misstatements” in Evergrande’s financial statements when it audited the firm.

As a result, the Chinese Ministry of Finance has imposed “administrative penalties” and suspended PwC’s business for six months.

In addition, China’s securities regulator has confiscated the revenue PwC earned auditing Evergrande and has also issued a fine.

An investigation by the regulator said PwC had “seriously eroded the basis of law and good faith, and damaged investors’ interest”.

In response to the penalties, PwC said it had taken “a number of accountability and remedial actions”, including the sacking of six partners and the launch of a process to fine responsible team leaders.

An additional five staff have also left, and Hemione Hudson, PwC’s global risk and regulatory leader, has been parachuted in to run the Chinese unit on an interim basis.

PwC admitted the work done on the Evergrande audit had been “well below” standards expected at the firm.

“It is not representative of what we stand for as a network and there is no room for this at PwC,” the firm’s global chair Mohamed Kande said.

“That is why, following a thorough investigation, we ensured that actions were taken to hold those responsible to account.

“I remain confident in the China firm’s partners and staff as we work together to rebuild trust with stakeholders,” he added.

Evergrande, which built property in more than 280 Chinese cities and branched out into other business sectors, teetered, then finally collapsed in January.

The Chinese authorities have accused Evergrande and its founder, Hui Ka Yan, of falsely inflating revenues at the firm to the tune of $78bn (£61.6bn) and imposed fines and bans on him personally as well as the business.

PS KAWANA CLARIFIES PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S REMARKS REGARDING LACUNAS IN THE CONSTITUTION

PS KAWANA CLARIFIES PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S REMARKS REGARDING LACUNAS IN THE CONSTITUTION

Today, Information and Media Permanent Secretary Mr. Thabo Kawana held a press briefing to address former president Edgar Lungu’s calculated attempt to mislead the public on the President’s remarks made yesterday regarding the constitutional lacunas.

Below are the highlights;

✅ President Hakainde Hichilema has observed lacunas in the Republican Constitution which could potentially cause problems for the nation.

✅ He noted that certain provisions of the constitution are problematic and need to be amended in a way that is both economical and effective.

✅ According to Mr. Kawana, President Hichilema had to make such a pronouncement in Parliament because it is the body that has the authority to make and change laws.

✅ The constitution of Zambia number 2 of 2016 Article 52 clause 6 says where a candidate dies or resigns or is disqualified in accordance with Article 70 or 100 or 153 or the court disqualifies a candidate for corruption or malpractice after the close of nominations, and before the election date, the Electoral Commission of Zambia shall cancel the election and require the filing of fresh nominations and elections shall be held within 30 days of the filing of fresh nominations.

✅ He noted that some clauses in the constitution create problems at different levels affecting different things such as elections.

✅ PS Kawana cited a number of elections that were previously affected by these constitutional lacunas such as the 2022 Kabwata by-election which was originally set for January 2022 but was rescheduled to take place four months later due to the UPP candidate’s withdrawal.

✅ Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) postponed ward-level elections in Mpulungu and Mandevu Constituency of Lusaka during the 2021 general elections due to the withdrawal of some candidates from those elections.

✅ In this regard, Mr. Kawana posed this question, “What will prevent the lacunas in the Constitution from causing a general election, if they can cause the by-elections mentioned above?”

✅ The Permanent Secretary said President Hichilema is not a bad President, that is why he wants certain provisions in the Constitution to be amended.

✅ President Hichilema made no indication whatsoever that he intends to extend his term of office or amend the Constitution to enable him to serve a term of seven years instead of five.

✅ President Hichilema has never claimed to be a lawyer. One wonders why the former president who claims to be an excellent lawyer signed the Constitution with such lacunas. This refutes the allegations made by former President Edgar Lungu that President Hakainde Hichilema lacks legal knowledge.

✅ The Permanent Secretary has appealed to the opposition political parties to confront government with facts rather than gazing in the mirror and seeing a reflection of their own desires and self-interest when they wish to criticise the Hichilema administration.

REACTION TO PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S ADDRESS TO PARLIAMENT ON 13TH SEPTEMBER 2024

REACTION TO PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S ADDRESS TO PARLIAMENT ON 13TH SEPTEMBER 2024

By Sunday Chilufya Chanda

President Hakainde Hichilema’s address to Parliament on 13th September 2024 touched on several key areas of national development, offering a broad vision for Zambia’s future while reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing immediate challenges. However, while the address outlined significant aspirations, certain gaps remain that require a more nuanced approach to ensure inclusive and sustainable progress.

Positive Aspects

1. Infrastructure Development and Industrialization:

The President reiterated his government’s focus on infrastructure development, particularly in areas such as roads, railways, and energy, with a clear intent to drive industrialization. This aligns with Zambia’s Vision 2030, aiming to position the country as a regional economic hub. The commitment to revitalize key railway lines, like TAZARA and the Lobito Corridor, demonstrates foresight in reducing transport costs for goods and integrating Zambia into regional trade routes.

Industrialization, coupled with green growth initiatives, is another area of focus, as the President highlighted the need to harness scientific research and promote the adoption of climate-smart technologies in agriculture. His mention of early maturing, pest-tolerant, and high-yielding seed varieties reflects an awareness of climate challenges, crucial in a nation where agriculture forms the backbone of the economy.

2. Constitutional Amendments:

The President’s call for constitutional amendments to cure inherent lacunae shows his administration’s willingness to foster legal reforms that better align with the aspirations of the people. His emphasis on a least-cost, efficient, and credible process indicates a focus on facilitating constitutional reforms that do not become a burden on the national treasury. This is a significant step toward establishing a legal framework that reflects the nation’s evolving needs.

Yes! the Constitution has so many lacunas.

No! the President did not say he wants to remain in Office for 8 or 9 yes!

3. Support for Innovation and SMEs:

The proposed enhancement of the National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research, alongside the revision of the legal framework to facilitate venture capital funding for innovators, highlights the government’s recognition of innovation as a key driver for economic growth. This is further bolstered by plans to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which play a vital role in job creation and economic diversification.

4. Rural Development Initiatives:

The President’s mention of rural infrastructure development, including road networks and increased access to electricity, is crucial for fostering equitable development. His focus on expanding rural connectivity addresses the long-standing urban-rural divide, which has hampered inclusive economic growth for decades. For example, out of the four Chiefdoms in Kanchibiya Constituency, one Chiefdom has zero electricity access.

Areas of Concern and Recommendations

1. Timelines and Implementation:

While the President outlined several infrastructure projects and industrialization plans, the lack of specific timelines and detailed action plans raises concerns about how and when these goals will be achieved. For example, while the government is committed to expanding rural electrification and upgrading road networks, clearer timelines are needed to measure progress and ensure accountability.

Recommendation:

The government should provide detailed timelines for infrastructure projects and create an independent monitoring mechanism to track progress, ensuring these initiatives are implemented efficiently.

2. Social Services Balance:

There is a risk that the government’s emphasis on industrialization and infrastructure could overshadow critical investments in social services such as healthcare, education, and water supply. These sectors are especially vulnerable in rural areas, where poverty levels are highest.

Recommendation:

A balanced approach is necessary, where investment in industrialization is paralleled by equally strong investments in social services. This will ensure that the benefits of economic growth are felt across all sectors and regions.

3. Challenges in Realizing Green Growth and Climate Change Mitigation:

While the President mentioned climate-smart agriculture and sustainable industrialization, the specifics of how these would be implemented were not fully articulated. Given Zambia’s vulnerability to climate change, ensuring that all infrastructure and industrial projects are climate-resilient is paramount.

Recommendation:

The government should integrate comprehensive climate resilience strategies into its infrastructure and agricultural projects to safeguard long-term growth. Engaging local communities in climate mitigation and adaptation efforts would further enhance sustainability.

4. Over-reliance on Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs):

PPPs can be instrumental in infrastructure development, but they also pose risks, particularly if the terms are not transparent or if projects prioritize private profits over public welfare. The concern here is that private companies may prioritize their returns at the expense of long-term affordability and access for ordinary citizens.

Recommendation:

The government should ensure transparency in PPP agreements and introduce safeguards that protect the public interest, especially in sectors such as energy and infrastructure, where public access is critical.

5. Addressing Constitutional Amendments Beyond Politics:

The President’s commitment to constitutional reform is commendable, but it is essential that these amendments are not viewed as politically motivated and they must in fact become politically motivated. Constitutional amendments should aim to genuinely address gaps in governance, enhance civic participation, and uphold the rights of all Zambians, rather than serve as tools for political convenience.

Recommendation:

While the process seeks to build on what previous constitutional review processes have already laid as a foundation, the government should actively involve civil society, legal experts, and the broader public in the constitutional reform process, ensuring that the resulting document reflects the aspirations of all Zambians and not just the political elite.

Conclusion

President Hichilema’s address outlined an ambitious vision for Zambia’s future, touching on crucial areas such as infrastructure, industrialization, constitutional reform, and rural development, among others. However, success will largely depend on the government’s ability to provide clearer timelines, ensure transparency, and balance industrial growth with social welfare. By addressing these pitfalls and embracing a more inclusive approach, Zambia can chart a course toward sustainable development that benefits all citizens, from urban centres to rural communities.

´No Bread, Eat Cake´

*´No Bread, Eat Cake´*

Amb Anthony Mukwita

*Friday the 13th*

As a keen student of history, international relations and politics, I was taken aback this week when President Hichilema told Zambians to stop crying about prolonged power shortages.

Don H bluntly said, ´no hydro power you have depended upon since independence, buy solar,´ which in my humble view was wrong on many levels.

It reminded me of Marie Antoinette the infamous wife of France´s King Louis XVI who told her husband when France was burning via a revolution in the 1700´s to stop complaining about the shortage of bread and eat cake.

Ironically, bread the staple food of the French then, like nshima to Zambians, was a more expensive alternative , she was perceived as heartless for that statement, without even mentioning her flamboyant lifestyle sustained by poor French folks.
Consequently, she earned herself a moniker  “Madame Deficit.”

Among historians and scholars like me, the anecdote has been cited as an example of Madame Deficit gross obliviousness to the poverty conditions of ordinary people.
She was out of touch with the reality of abject poverty on the ground, which led France to a revolution and ended the monarchy, birthing a republic it is today.
In my view, what Don H said on his return from the epic visit to China, long overdue, was like what the Austrian princess turned Queen if France said regarding bread and cake.

Don H showed insensitivity and scorn towards Zambians suffering from depressing endless unprotective days of no electricity in their homes, barbershops, salons, butcheries and bakeries etc.
I read a leader in the News Diggers newspaper advising Don H, not to scorn Zambians on power shortages but instead, thank them for not taking to the streets to protest, my view exactly as one of the persons that love the Don.

In my recent editorials I have repeatedly said we are lucky as Zambians because we don’t take to the streets, looting and burning like Kenyans, Nigerians and Ghanaians do in the face of a crisis.
Our demeanour must be respected but never must it be taken for granted because in the game called life, everyone says enough is enough at some point. Nothing lasts forever, even the November rain.
I expect today when the president graces parliament to announce a few measures to end the misery of us mere mortals that are now getting 30 minutes of power per day or nothing:

• Scrap all manner of duty on the importation of solar and other energy alternatives

• Flood the market with cheaper alternatives to empower even the lowest in the income bracket and not just the aficionado fat cats

• Give money to ZESCO to build more dams and generate more power
• Let ZESCO roll out the solar solution for the whole country, they know where we all stay

• Scrap all power exports in the name of a ´crisis´ because we are in a crisis that is not going to disappear like a flu
Apart from Madame Deficit, let us all learn from 70´s British PM James Callaghan who fell on his own knife during the miserable Winter of Discontent by saying, ´Crisis no Crisis´ amid poverty-stricken Britain.

The power issue in Zambian has the power to potentially steal power from the current government if not urgently addressed, that’s my two ngwee and it requires no rocket science.

It cuts across the great divide, it’s the elephant on the room, not a storm in a tea cup.

If Don H is not careful, Zambians will take advantage of the crisis like the saying goes ´never lose an opportunity as opposition to milk a good crisis.´

I shudder to think what the resting Cobra Michael Sata would have done if the current crisis was occurring on his watch as an opposition leader.

Butcheries, bakeries and super markets are shutting down, the huge informal sector is crumbling right in front of our eyes and if nothing done is done, we will have no Zambia to write home about by year end.

“Everything will be OK in the end. If it’s not OK, it’s not the end,” said Napoleon, I think.
A greater majority of Zambians are already grappling with high costs of mealie meal, petrol and diesel, the loss of energy just makes the living deplorable among people that are already burdened in my view.

Do not ask me ´what do you want HH to do?´  he is the Don not me he must know what to do, we can only suggest.
I must stop writing and crying now because my laptop battery is running dry.

HICHILEMA’S IGNORANCE COULD SET THE COUNTRY ON FIRE, SAYS EDGAR LUNGU

0

Following President Hakainde Hichilema’s remarks that there are lacunas in the current constitution which would make the country not hold elections for eight years, former President Edgar Lungu has responded:
Fellow Citizens,

It is said that ignorance of the law is no defense and that little knowledge in a particular subject matter can be very dangerous.

While we can excuse Mr Hakainde Hichilema for his ignorance of the law, we are concerned and actually worried that his little knowledge or understanding of the Zambian Constitution can be very destructive and has the potential to set the country on fire.

As he officially opened Parliament today, he talked about lacunae in the Constitution that need to be addressed because some of them could lead the country to NOT having elections for 8 or 9 years.
Such a reckless statement should not be allowed to come from the mouth of a Head of State.

To start with, what is a lacuna in the context of the law? Simply speaking, a lacuna refers to a “deficiency” or “gap” in the legal system or a law. In common or lay language, when we hear people say the law is “silent” about a particular matter, they are basically talking about the “lacuna” in the law.

As far as Zambians are aware, the Republican Constitution, as amended in 2016, is very unequivocal about the subject of holding elections. This is the Constitution that has been credited with the unprecedented prescription of even the date for General Elections.

A lacuna in the Constitution implies that there is no specific provision or regulation that addresses a particular situation or issue.

So can Mr Hichilema disclose the actual gaps in the Constitution regarding the holding of elections which he referred to before he excites unnecessary debate about the extension of his stay in office knowing that his days are numbered?

There has been talk that the UPND government is contemplating to extend the Presidential term from the current 5 to 7 years. This type of reckless pronouncement from Mr Hichilema inevitably gives credence to such talks about extension of the Presidential term of Office which in the first place should not even be the subject of any kind of debate or discussion.

Zambians, Wake up and stop this apparent dictator from tampering with our Republican Constitution in order to extend his stay in power even when he has lamentably failed to improve the lives of the people.

He thought 2026 was very far. Well, Here it is; 2026 KUYA BEBELE!!

There is no lacuna to cling to.

Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu
Sixth President of Zambia
Patriotic Front PF President

THE LACUNA IS IN HICHILEMA’S HEAD-Fred M’membe

THE LACUNA IS IN HICHILEMA’S HEAD

Mr Hakainde Hichilema has been denying that he wants to amend the Constitution to abolish the 50% plus 1 requirement for electoral victory, the running-mate clause, and remove the five-year presidential term limit and introduce a seven-year one.

Now, Mr Hichilema wants to amend the Constitution because there’s some lacunae  that could lead the country to not having elections for eight or nine years. This is nonsense. There’s no lacuna about when the elections should be held in this country. Probably, the lacuna on this, only exists in his head.

Mr Hichilema seems to be using a word whose legal meaning he doesn’t understand.

A ‘Lacuna’ in law is the term given to any situation where there’s no applicable law in place. This situation is also less commonly described as a ‘non liquet’. The Latin meaning of this being ‘it is not clear’.

It is a matter where currently no law exists. A ‘lacuna’ highlights an area that requires more clarity and should be governed by the law in the future.
And there’s clearly no lacuna in the Constitution as to when elections should be held.

It is clearly spelt out in Article 56 of the Constitution when elections should be held. There’s no lacuna in this. In his head, Mr Hichilema sees a lacuna in this, and wants to change this from every five years to every seven years. The only lacuna here, is in his desire to increase the presidential term of office from five to seven years, and not in the Constitution.

In Articles 47(1) and 101, the need for 50% plus 1 is clearly spelt. In his head, Mr Hichilema thinks he can win with less than 50% instead of 50% plus 1. This is the lacuna in his head and not in the Constitution.

Then also, Mr Hichilema seems to have problems with having a vice-president who is directly elected by the people as a
running-mate of the presidential candidate. He seems to desire a vice-president appointed by the president and who can easily be removed by him at any time, and without reason. Again, there’s no lacuna here. The lacuna is simply in his head.

But he is cheating himself with all these “blatant power grab” manoeuvres, which have the potential to weaken our democracy and provoke political instability due to public anger.

Mr Hichilema should know that the Zambian people won’t allow him to temper with the Constitution, and attempt to sneak in a third term of office by the back door. He won’t succeed. He is cheating himself. He is playing with fire.

We dare Mr Hichilema to try and defer the 2026 elections for eight or nine years and see what will happen! Batila mwikala patalala mwine apatalalika.

Mr Hichilema is pushing his luck too far. Kalulu tapusuka mipya ibili. Dishonesty is like a ring of fire that  eventually will spread and ensnare you.

Mr Hichilema has deceived Zambians enough. They now know who he is and ubucenjeshi tabulwila libili. You can only use deceit to get out of a situation once. Once people discover your dishonesty, you will not be able to fool them again.

Let him just deliver on the many things he had promised and continue to promise Zambians. Cenga-bupele walaile imfumu umusengele wa cela. In his effort to win Zambians’ votes and support, he promised so many things he could not deliver and caused himself trouble. But trying to prolong his stay in the office by eight or nine years won’t do. 2026 kuya. Nako haicaile icaile! When time is over, it’s over!

Lungu is UKA’s presidential candidate only to PF members – Saboi Imboela

Lungu is UKA’s presidential candidate only to PF members – Saboi

SABOI Imboela, a founding member of the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA), has clarified that while some may view former President Edgar Lungu as the ideal presidential candidate for the alliance, she believes that all potential candidates within UKA are equally eligible for the role.

In an interview with Kalemba, Imboela noted that only members of the Patriotic Front (PF) view Lungu as the best candidate for the alliance in the 2026 presidential elections, as he is their current president.

She stressed that every party member supports their own leader, and similarly, her supporters believe in her ability to lead the UKA to victory.

“So they (PF members) are well within their rights and aspirations to say what they are saying. There is nothing wrong for them to say what they are saying, but what needs to be observed is that people from other parties are also saying the same about their leaders,” Imboela told Kalemba

She also addressed concerns about internal campaigning within UKA, revealing that while all leaders are eligible to run for the presidency, the alliance has restricted members from campaigning for their Presidents as preferred candidates to prevent conflicts.

Imboela further dismissed allegations that she has disrespected Lungu through voice notes, stating she has neither made nor circulated such material.

She urged those making these claims to provide evidence.

“First of all I did not make such an audio, I did not circulate it, and I have not come across it, I am also looking for an audio where I am disrespecting president Lungu. The people that are saying that should also share it with me because I am looking for them (audios). So they should ensure they share it.”

“Even the issue of disrespecting President Lungu is not true. President Lungu is the 6th republican president of this country. He is more than  a leader, he is a father to all of us. We don’t have any former head of state,” she said.

Imboela added that the alliance is now stronger than ever as its mandate from the onset was to save the Zambian people from the UPND government, so it’s impossible for them to come up with such a great thing and end up destabilising themselves.

She said UKA’s current focus is to win the 2026 elections as its future is very bright.

“You know, when people come to an alliance, they come with different aspirations and motives so you can never know what somebody came with but what I can tell you is that UKA is very very alive and kicking, Imboela said.

“We are on course in terms of our objectives and UKA is the future of this country.”

Repressented by Nathan Lewis Mosho Advocates, Kasanda wants the Court to order that he is entitled to statutory protection as a whistleblower as disclosure he made is a protected disclose pursuant to the public interest disclosure (protection of whistleblowers).

He is seeking an interim order restraining the State from perpetrating or engaging in unlawful reprisal against him until the statutory protection as a whistle blower is determined under the Public Interest Disclosure Act no.4 of 2010.

In his statement of claim, Kasanda explained that, in August 2023, he got wind of a Gold Transaction that was happening at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport between some Congolese, a South African and some Egyptians.

He said upon becoming suspicious of the legality of the said transaction, he decided to report the matter to various law enforcement agencies, which included the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), Zambia Police, Zambia Air Force and Zambia National Service.

“Following the plaintiff’s public interest disclosure ,the aforesaid law enforcement agencies quickly rushed to the airport and seized a number of properties including cash, some minerals and an Aircraft belonging to the Egyptian Nationals,” he said.

“Further, the law enforcement agencies also made some arrests in connection with the said gold transaction, which arrest included some Zambian and the Egyptians nationals involved.”

Kasanda said because of his disclosure in  public interest, the State recovered US$5 million under cause 2023/HPEF/37, from the Egyptians by way of a consent judgement entered into with the said Egyptians.

He stated that, in a sudden turn of events, he was also arrested and jointly charged with the Egyptians who were the subject of his public interest disclosure involving gold transactions at KKIA.

Kasanda said the matter proceeded to court , however, the DPP decided to enter a nolle prosequi in favour of the Eygptian nationals, and  they were discharged and allowed to go back to their country.

“In addition to the offence of Espionage,I was also, individually, charged with the non-bailable offence of aggravated robbery,” he said.

“This aggravated robbery matter proceeded to trial in the High Court and the State failed to present before court, the alleged Eygptian complainants to come and testify in the matter in which it is alleged that they were robbed a sum of US$5 million.”

Kasanda claimed he was tried notwithstanding the advice from Zambia police to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) that investigations done by Zambia police revealed that there was no evidence of the offence of aggravated robbery.

“After several adjournements granted to the state giving them an opportunity to bring before court the alleged complainants to come and testify in their matter, the High Court in exercise of its inherent jurisdiction closed the prosecution’s case and invited parties to make submissions at the close of the prosecution’s case,” he said.

“Whilst the accused was making his submission, the prosecutions quickly stood to enter a nolle prosequi, bringing proceedings to an end ,and the plaintiff was discharged accordingly.”

Kasanda said he was subsequently was re-arrested, but was granted an application for a habeas corpus by the High Court.

“The plaintiff will aver at trial that the conduct of the defendant regarding the events that unfolded at KKIA ,upon which he made a public interest disclosure has been highly punitive and injurious to the rights and interests of the plaintiff given the above unjustified acts of unlawful reprisals,” he claimed.

“The plaintiff will also aver that the defendant’s conduct is contrary to the spirit and is one that undermines the object of the law on whistleblowers, regarding public interest disclosure which the plaintiff made to the law enforcement agencies.”

Kasanda said the conduct of the State is highly suspicious and utterly strange that he could be victimized, harassed and prosecuted over a public interest disclosure while the perpetrators of the alleged illegal conduct were freed and allowed to travel back to their country, after the State benefitted from his disclosure of the suspected illegal activities of his Egyptian clients.

“By reason of the conduct of the defendant, the plaintiff has suffered injury ,loss ,intimidation and harassment by the defendant’s agents including DEC ,Zambia police, as he is vulnerable to arbitrary arrests and unending interrogations, threats of further seizure and unending interrogations, threats of further seizure and forefeiiture of his property, bordering on the public interest disclosures he made in public interest and out of which the state recovered huge sums of money,” Kasanda said.

“The plaintiff, having made a public interest disclosure in public interest, is entitled to the protection under the Public Interest Disclosure ( Protection of Whistleblowers) Act no.4 of 2010.”

He is further seeking an order that the collective conduct of the State constitutes unlawful reprisal against him, and as such, violates the public interest disclosure (protection of whistleblowers) Act no.4 of 2010.

Kasanda is also claiming amages for injury and or harmful conduct occassioned by the State’s unlawful reprisal against him.

DO NOT FEAR REALITY – ITS ALREADY HERE. The case of UPND and their view of things.

By: Hon. Mutotwe Kafwaya

Once upon a time I feared that UPND and it’s leadership would have no plan to govern Zambia sensibly. My idea was based on what I considered as hollow debates that their leadership consistently depicted on various matters of national significance regarding their whats, hows and whys. This is no longer an idea any more, we are here now. We need not fear any longer – we need to find solutions as reality is upon us.

To the darkness of the majority parts of our country, we now know that neither the Chembe River Canal into Kafue River nor the Dubai model of powering a nation without rains can work even though the UPND leadership proclaimed these utopian views. These ideas were devoid of reason. There was no careful considerations granted to those views prior to committing them the public. What is our reality now – it’s darkness, it’s loss of business, its loss of jobs, it’s loss of income, it’s livelihoods; and for government it’s loss of tax revenue from lost business and lost jobs.

Should we then fear darkness? There is no point in that. We are already in the dark. What then do need to do? We need to consider drawing lessons from our reality and form our future decisions on a much more correct basis than the baseless Chembe River Canals and Dubai models as then proclaimed.

The next time someone pronounces that he or she has connections and that those connections will help end our sufferings, we should consider asking them further questions in terms of what form those connections take. Otherwise it will take three years and those connections will not avail and the situation will just become worse.

The next time someone promises to end corruption, ask them how? Otherwise the corruption fight will be weaken further by micro management and weakening of insititutional arrangements. In other words the fight against corruption might become more rhetorical than ever. All you might end up with could be hearing about unconnected issues surrounding religion, partisanship, tribal and other irrelevant factors in the fight against corruption. It won’t even be surprising anymore to observe that some government agents would claim corruption by other agents and those alleging would lose their agency to cover those accused to be corrupt.

Let me just say I listened to the president yesterday as he delivered his State Of the Nation Address on the occasion of the official opening of the fourth session of 13th National Assembly. A gentle journalist asked me to comment on what I heard, with an attempt to match her gentleness, I decline to immediately have my say and offered to comment later. I was fortunate to meet a colleague of mine afterwards who I asked for only one word for the SONA; he said it was a SCAM😊.

After reading the 34 paged speech, I am trying my best to be the kindest of them all. But sadly I see an unrestricted wide open gate to the darkest cave of our time. My internal responses to my desperate whats, hows and whys are shuttering.

Restoring EVERYTHING PATRIOTIC.

No Lacuna for 8 years – For HH or ECL

0

GREED HAS SET IN TOO QUICKLY

No Lacuna for 8 years  –  For HH or ECL

It’s vey difficult to debate what the President said about a lacuna in the Constitution that allows one to serve an 8 year term instead of five years, because he did not specifically point out where that Lacuna is in the constitution.

The fact he even mentions 8 years makes it even more complicated. Really, I don’t know where the 8 years is coming from and that has left everyone guessing. Lets consider three possible scenario he might be  talking about.

Number One

I have seen the UPND pages trying to explain what he meant. That if a Presidential candidate resigns, dies or he’s disqualified after filling nominations but before Elections, Electoral commission must cancel all nominations and call for fresh elections within 30 days. Fresh nominations have to held every aftertime a candidate resigns, dies or he’s disqualified.

Meaning that if Presidental Candidates keep dying, resigning or disqualified then we may never have an election. Even this this scenario is extreme, because it can’t go on for three years to make it 8 years. Imagine a campaign period for three years and every after 30 days we are having fresh nomination because of resignation or death.

Even with that explanation it’s not possible,  ECZ have to hold the election within 90 days after dissolving Parliament. They can’t go beyond that because the constitution gives a speacfic date and month when the General elections should be held.

We had a simmilar case with the Malanji and Bowman cases. The ECZ went ahead to hold elections within the stipulated time of within 90 days. This was despite a an on going court and later even declared them fit to stand but it was too late the elections had past. So by precedence and the constitution it’s not possible.

Number 2

The second scenario is the Constitutional Court ruling, that the said 3 years is not a term in the case of ECL eligibility. Meaning a President can dissolve parliament just before three year and hold elections, if he wins he will be entitled to a fresh five years. Meaning he will be entitled to 8 years and it will considered a one term.

But if even that is wrong in the sense that there is another fact that determines a term; sworn in twice. Constitution defines a term by limiting a term to five years, with a maximum of 2 five terms and most importantly in this case sworn in twice. All the three items are what defines a term and should not be separated.

The best example is that you are allowed to marry for life but you can only get married twice in a life time. So even if you are allowed to marry for life but you can’t marry more than twice even in 3 or 8 years. The concourt simply said marrying for 3 years is not for life but did not mention the other part where you can’t be marey or sworn in more than twice.

The only reasons for calling for fresh nomination after a candidate resigns, dies or is disqualified is to allow the people or parties to have chance to field in another candidate they prefer. And I think it’s very intelligent and democratic; so that people are given an other choice.

Number 3

The third explanation might be that, the comment was meant for ECL. In the case court allows President Lungu to run in 2026 like in 2021 and this time he wins; He would have to served almost 12 years. The maximum limit has been 10 years from 1996. Elected twice 1996 and later changed 2016 to sworn in twice. He has been sworn in twice. Either cases the maximum is 10 years or sworn in twice. So I was shocked that ba Lungu was even quick to respond to him.

Whatever the case between the scenarios,  I think the constitution is okay on these issues but it’s being tested because of lack of human interigty and understanding blinded selfish personal needs. Like the bible says the law is meant for sinners.

The problem we usually have is that we have a compromised ConCourt and ECZ that are always trying to side with the party in power. The constitution is clear,  it’s sworn in twice with a MAXIMUM of 10 years split into two terms. No one should go beyond that, I was even shocked that concourt allowed ECL to stand in 2021.

No one is allowed to go beyond 5 years without an election, the constitution closed that loop by speacfically mentioning the date of elections. Beyond that it’s an illegal President.

The 2016 constitution also has closed the loophole that President can be calling for elections before three years and consider it not term by SWORN IN TWICe. So if calls for elections by dissolving Parliament before 3 years, he is shooting himself in the leg by cutting is term because of the sworn in twice.

I can write a book about this subject but no one is allowed to go beyond 5 years without an election whatever the case. And no one should be sworn in more than twice.

I submit

Eminem has taken aim at Diddy once again over the deaths of Biggie and 2Pac

Eminem has taken aim at Diddy once again over the deaths of Biggie and 2Pac.

The Detroit rap legend released the Expanded Mourner’s Edition of his latest album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) on Friday (September 13), containing a remix of “Fuel” featuring Shady Records signees Westside Boogie and Grip.

In his blistering verse on the reworked track, Em fires direct shots at the Bad Boy boss, rapping: “The Notorious B.I.G.’s death was the domino effects of 2Pac’s murder / Like facial tissue, whose card should I clean next? Puff’s? / ‘Til he’s in police handcuffs, guilty, will he step up? / Like gee, never turned himself in, who knows all the murders there’s been / Or me next up, prepare for me to not choose none of my words carefully.”

The lyrics reference the long-running rumors that Diddy played a role in the September 1996 murder of 2Pac.

In a police interview 12 years after the fatal shooting, Duane “Keefe D” Davis — the former Compton Crip who has been charged with conspiring to murder the late rapper — claimed that Puffy offered him $1 million to kill both ‘Pac and Suge Knight at the height of the Bad Boy-Death Row beef in the mid-1990s.

According to a recent legal filing, Keefe was asked by detectives during that conversation if Diddy “play[ed] a role in this thing?” to which he replied: “Yeah, I think he did.”

In a separate YouTube interview, Keefe claimed that the Harlem-bred mogul reached out to him wondering if the South Side Crips were responsible for ‘Pac’s death by asking, ‘Is that us?’”

Keefe has further claimed that following the murder, Diddy paid half of the money to an associate named Eric “Von Zip” Martin, who allegedly kept the money for himself.

Diddy previously denied these allegations, telling the L.A. Weekly in 2011 that Keefe D’s story was “pure fiction and completely ridiculous.” He has also yet to be charged over 2Pac’s murder.

Biggie’s murder just six months later was seen as payback for 2Pac’s death, although a suspect has yet to be charged in that case.

Eminem previously attacked Diddy on the original version of “Fuel,” which featured JID. He again referenced Biggie and 2Pac’s deaths, as well as the string of sexual assault lawsuits against the Bad Boy boss.

“I’m like a R-A-P-E-R / Got so many S-As, S-As / Wait, he didn’t just spell the word ‘rapper’ and leave out a P, did he? / R.I.P., rest in peace Biggie / And ‘Pac, both of y’all should be living / But I ain’t tryna beef with him / ‘Cause he might put a hit on me like, ‘Keefe D, get him,’” Em rapped.

South Africa’s coalition threatened by new education law

0

The durability of South Africa’s uneasy governing coalition is set to be tested as President Cyril Ramaphosa signs new education measures into law at a public ceremony on Friday.

Before May’s general election, the result of which forced Mr Ramaphosa’s African National Congress into a coalition, the two main partners in the current government were at loggerheads over the Basic Education Laws Amendment (Bela) Bill.

Even though the ANC and the Democratic Alliance (DA) now share power, there is still no agreement over the changes.

DA leader John Steenhuisen said that if the signing goes ahead, the party will “have to consider all of our options on the way forward”.

What is in the Bela bill?

The disputed bill passed by the previous ANC-dominated parliament just before the election proposes controversial and significant amendments to existing education law.

The major reforms include:

  • School admissions and the language of instruction will be regulated nationally
  • Home schooling will be regulated
  • Parents who fail to ensure their child is in school may face jail
Grade R, for four and five-year-olds, will be the new compulsory school starting level – a year earlier than currently
  • The abolition of corporal punishment will be backed by fines and possibly jail time for those who administer it

The ANC says the changes are necessary in order to transform the education system and address continued inequalities.

Why is there such fierce opposition?

The clause which has caused the most controversy is the one concerning strengthening government oversight over language and admission policies.

This is a sensitive topic relating to racial integration.

The previous ANC government argued that language and other admission criteria were being used to “derail access to schools [for] the majority of learners”.

Even though apartheid – a system of legally enforced racism – ended more than three decades ago, the racial divide it created still persists in some areas of education.

Afrikaans is not specifically mentioned in the legislation, but the ANC says that some children are being excluded from schools where the language of the white-minority Afrikaners is used as the medium of instruction.

The DA has defended the right of school governing bodies to determine their language policies, citing the constitution and the importance and protection of learning in one’s mother-tongue.

The strongest opposition has come from the Afrikaans-speaking community.

Civil rights group AfriForum has described the bill as an attack against Afrikaans education and has said it remains committed to opposing the legislation as “it poses a threat to the continued existence of Afrikaans schools and quality education”.

The Freedom Front Plus – another one of the 10 parties in the coalition government and seen as representing the interests of Afrikaners – is also opposed to Bela. It called it “ill-conceived”, saying it would “cause needless uncertainty and disputes about clearly established rights and responsibilities related to Basic Education”.

Some are also concerned about the reforms to home schooling. There are currently many unregulated schools popular with the middle classes because of the poor state of government schools.

These are allowed to continue through a loophole in the current law where the students are registered as “home learners” and the teachers offer “tuition”. But through the Bela bill, the government wants to close the loophole and ensure they are regulated like state schools.

Could this threaten the coalition government?

After the ANC lost its outright majority in parliament, it needed coalition partners to remain in power.

It reached a deal with its long-time opponent, the DA, and eight other parties to form the Government of National Unity.

Steenhuisen, who is the agriculture minister, has said that enacting the Bela bill would violate “the letter and spirit” of the coalition agreement as the DA had made it clear that the bill was unacceptable “in its current form”.

But he does not yet appear to be pulling the plug on the coalition.

On Thursday, the DA leader said conflict over policy was not necessarily “an existential threat to the government”, echoing similar comments from the president’s spokesperson.

But Steenhuisen said this did not mean it would never walk away, especially if the ANC was “trashing the constitution”. The DA has said it has some simple amendments to the bill which would make it acceptable and, as it sees it, bring it in line with the constitution. However, these have not been incorporated in the bill signed by President Ramaphosa.

New York City is considering paying reparations to the descendants of slaves

0

New York City is considering paying reparations to the descendants of slaves under new plans approved by the City Council.

The proposals, which are aimed at acknowledging and addressing the impact of slavery in New York City, are yet to be signed into law by Democratic Mayor Eric Adams.

According to the City Council, New York City had one of the highest rates of slave ownership in the country during the 1700s, before abolishing it in 1872.

However, businesses across the city, including the predecessors of some modern banks, continued to benefit financially from the slave trade up until 1866 with the lawmakers behind the proposals noting that the harms caused by the institution are still felt by Black Americans today.

One of the proposals would also require the city to install a sign on Wall Street in Manhattan to mark the site of New York’s first slave market which operated between 1711 and 1762.

Public Advocate Jumaane Williams said: ‘The wealth of Wall Street banks was built on the backs of the human beings sold on that very spot, and we have a moral obligation to accurately acknowledge not only this slave market’s tragic history, the pain of enslaved people in our city, and the role slavery had in New York’s economy, one which has echoed painfully across generations’.

Council Member Farah Louis, a Democrat who sponsored one of the bills, told the City Council on Thursday: ‘The reparations movement is often misunderstood as merely a call for compensation’.

She added that systemic forms of oppression still affected Black Americans today, including through the underfunding of crucial services in predominantly black neighbourhoods.

‘Does that mean we are going to hand everyone a check? No,’ Louis said, reports The New York Times.

‘But starting the conversation is the most important part.’

City Hall signalled the mayor’s support in a statement calling the legislation ‘another crucial step towards addressing systemic inequities, fostering reconciliation, and creating a more just and equitable future for all New Yorkers.’

However, not all city council members were on board with the new bill.

Joseph Borelli, the Republican minority leader of the city council, who represents Staten Island, criticized the plans.

‘I bear no responsibility for slavery,’ Borelli said.

‘Unless someone could explain to me why I should bear some individual and societal guilt through my taxes, I’m going to be opposed.’

The new bills would direct the city’s Commission on Racial Equity to suggest remedies to the legacy of slavery, including reparations. It would also create a truth and reconciliation process to establish historical facts about slavery in the state.

The commission would work with the existing state commission, which is also considering the possibility of reparations.

“He is entitled to his opinion” – Ten Hag on Ronaldo’s criticism over ambition

0

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has shrugged off the latest criticism from Cristiano Ronaldo, maintaining that external opinions don’t affect him or the club.

Ronaldo, during a podcast interview with former United teammate Rio Ferdinand, took issue with Ten Hag’s comments from a pre-season interview in the Netherlands.

The United boss had remarked that the club was “a long way away” from reclaiming the Premier League title, which they last won in 2013.

While Ronaldo agreed that United were not in a position to challenge for the title, he believed that as manager, Ten Hag’s message lacked the right tone.

When asked about Ronaldo’s remarks ahead of Manchester United’s upcoming match against Southampton, Ten Hag appeared unfazed, noting that Ronaldo had essentially echoed the same sentiment.

“No, he said this, if you read the article very well,” said Ten Hag.

“He is entitled to his opinion. It’s OK. He is far away in Saudi Arabia, far away from Manchester.”

After back-to-back losses against Brighton and Liverpool, Manchester United now face Southampton, fully aware that another defeat would mark their worst start to a season since 1986-87, when Ron Atkinson was dismissed and Sir Alex Ferguson took the reins.

Erik ten Hag provided updates ahead of the crucial fixture, confirming that full-back Luke Shaw remains sidelined.

Shaw, despite featuring three times for England in Euro 2024, has yet to play for United this season.

Additionally, striker Rasmus Hojlund is still recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during United’s pre-season tour of the United States, ruling him out of action once again.

However, new signing Manuel Ugarte is available for selection.

The £50.2 million Uruguayan midfielder returned from international duty on Thursday and is ready to join the squad.

As Ten Hag prepares for the game, speculation around his future continues to swirl following United’s poor start. Some observers doubt the Dutchman will last the full season, particularly with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s increasing influence at the club.

Despite the growing scrutiny, Ten Hag remains unfazed, stating that the external “noise” doesn’t affect him, having recently returned from leading a charity match with his former club FC Utrecht. The manager is focused solely on getting United back on track.

Germany to welcome 250,000 Kenyans in labour deal

0

Germany has agreed to open the doors to 250,000 skilled and semi-skilled Kenyan workers in a controlled and targeted labour migration deal.

Kenya is struggling with increasing difficulties in providing work and sufficient income for its young professionals, while Germany is facing a shortage of skilled labour.

Five Kenyan bus drivers have already been welcomed to Flensburg, in the north of Germany, in a pilot project.

Migration agreements are a central pillar in the German government’s efforts to curb immigration.

The agreement will also simplify the repatriation of Kenyans who are in Germany without legal permission.

Immigration is a huge issue in Germany at the moment, following the rise in popularity of the far-right anti-immigration party, Alternative for Germany (AfD).

Successive governments in Berlin have allowed relatively large numbers of asylum seekers to settle in the country in recent years.

Germany took in more than one million people, mostly fleeing war in countries such as Syria, during the 2015-2016 migrant crisis, and has received 1.2 million Ukrainians since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in February 2022.

The labour deal was signed in Berlin by Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Kenya’s President William Ruto.

Germany agreed to ease some of its immigration laws to enable Kenyans to find employment in Europe’s biggest economy.

Authorities in Berlin will also consider extending temporary residence permits for Kenyan workers who have secured an approved job.

Kenyans will also be issued with long-term visas to study or do vocational training in Germany.

“On the expiry of the long-stay visa, Kenyans may receive a temporary residence permit for study purposes in Germany for up to two years,” the agreement states.

The temporary residence permit may be extended if the purpose of residence has not yet been achieved but is achievable within a “reasonable” period, it adds.

According to the deal, IT specialists from Kenya will be allowed to enter and work in Germany, even if they do not have formal qualifications.

Both governments will support the immigration of skilled workers who have finished vocational training or earned a university degree, as long as their qualifications are recognised by the relevant authorities of the other party.

The deal also includes provisions for the readmission and return of citizens between the two nations.

It spells out guidelines to prevent and fight against labour exploitation, forced labour and human trafficking.

While welcoming five Kenyan drivers in Flensburg on Thursday, Schleswig-Holstein’s Transport Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen said Germany was in need of hard-working hands and clever minds.

“We simply have to position ourselves in Germany in such a way that it is attractive to come here,” Mr Madsen added.

The drivers are the first batch of Kenyan workers, who will be trained by the Aktiv bus company in a pilot project, hoping to get a job in Germany.

Doctors, nurses and teachers are among those expected to take part in the programme.

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) said the deal was expected to significantly increase access to decent foreign jobs for Kenyan workers in Germany and address labour shortages in Germany.

“It includes mechanisms to protect the rights and welfare of Kenyan migrant workers in Germany, ensuring safe, orderly, and productive migration,” ILO added in a statement.

But there are concerns about a brain-drain in Kenya with professionals like doctors and nurses going abroad for jobs, leaving local hospitals with a huge shortage of medical workers.

“It is sad that we are going to service other countries at the expense of our own country,” Ekuru Aukot, a Kenyan lawyer and politician, told the BBC’s Newsday programme.

But Roseline Njogu, a senior foreign affairs official, said Kenya was simply responding to the global labour market demands.

“We have a youth bulge in Kenya and every year we have a million people joining the local labour market. It takes time and resources to create job opportunities at home,” she added.

Diddy has filed a motion to overturn a $100 million default judgment in a sexual assault lawsuit brought by a Michigan inmate

0

Hip Hop Mogul, Diddy has filed a motion to overturn a $100 million default judgment in a sexual assault lawsuit brought by a Michigan inmate.

On Thursday, September, 12, Combs, 54, filed an emergency motion to vacate a default judgment, and a motion to dissolve a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction, per court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

This comes after he lost the $100 million default judgment in Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith’s lawsuit against him due to his failure to attend a virtual hearing on Monday, Sept. 9. Judge Anna Marie Anzalone awarded Cardello-Smith the multi-million dollar judgment in Lenawee County Circuit Court.

In his request for Judge Anzalone to vacate the default judgment, Combs’ attorneys said that Cardello-Smith is a “convicted felon who is serving time in prison for kidnapping and sexual assault.”

They claim that Cardello-Smith has frequently filed “frivolous” claims in the past, and his allegations that Combs sexually assaulted him in 1997 “are objectively unbelievable.”

Combs’ legal team also argues that the Bad Boy Records founder was not properly served in Cardello-Smith’s lawsuit, so the default judgment is invalid under Michigan Court Rule 2.105(A).

Combs’ motion alleged that he was unaware of the lawsuit until the news concerning the $100 million default judgment was reported in the media.

His attorneys allege that any delay he had in responding was unintentional. Once Combs became aware of the lawsuit, he quickly filed the motion to vacate the ruling, the court papers stated.

The filing also alleges that Cardello-Smith’s allegations, which Combs has denied in a sworn affidavit, are fabricated, implausible and full of “inconsistencies and fantastical claims,” such as Cardello-Smith’s claims that he invested $150,000 for 49% of Combs’ net worth.

The court papers also said the default judgment should be vacated, calling the $100 million award “extraordinary and incompatible with any possible measure of actual damages even if every (facially implausible) allegation in the Complaint were true” as Combs “did not receive notice of the lawsuit” until Monday.

Combs’ attorneys noted that even if Cardello-Smith’s claims were true, the statute of limitations ended in 2007, so they should be dismissed.

Combs also filed a motion to dissolve a temporary restraining order and/or preliminary injunction, reiterating that Cardello-Smith is not owed injunctive relief and Combs’ constitutional rights were violated since he was not served with the complaint. They said the judgment was improper because Cardello-Smith didn’t claim he had an equitable interest in the property, but instead said he could be awarded a monetary judgment against Combs. The Michigan Supreme Court has previously determined that this isn’t enough to authorize relief in the injunction order, per Combs’ motion.

Combs’ lawyers say the court doesn’t have jurisdiction over Combs as a signature on a return receipt is not his.

Cardello-Smith filed a complaint against Combs in June. In August, he was granted a temporary restraining order that blocked Combs from selling assets that could be “used to compensate Cardello-Smith for possible damages,” The Detroit Metro Times reported.

In a court hearing later that month, Cardello-Smith claimed that Combs came to see him in prison and offered him $2.3 million to dismiss the lawsuit, according to the Guardian.

In his lawsuit, Cardello-Smith alleged he met Combs in 1997 during an afterparty at a Holiday Inn in Detroit. The two got a private hotel with two women when Combs allegedly groped Cardello-Smith’s buttocks while the latter was having intercourse with one of the women. Cardello-Smith also alleged that Combs drugged him and sexually assaulted him.

Marc Agnifilo, an attorney for Combs, addressed the lawsuit in a statement on Tuesday, Sept. 10, saying, “This man is a convicted felon and sexual predator, who has been sentenced on 14 counts of sexual assault and kidnapping over the last 26 years. His resume now includes committing a fraud on the court from prison, as Mr. Combs has never heard of him let alone been served with any lawsuit. Mr. Combs looks forward to having this judgment swiftly dismissed.”

Kyle Walker, wife not back together; Annie still ‘traumatised’ by Man City star’s affair

0

Kyle Walker is reportedly not back together with Annie Kilner and is currently sleeping in a separate room on the third floor of their £4 million mansion.

Walker had been asked to leave the family home over Christmas after news broke that he had fathered a second child with his former mistress, Lauryn Goodman.

While it was previously reported that Walker had returned to their Cheshire home, The Sun now claims that the couple has not reconciled, as Kilner is still “deeply scarred” by the affair.

Following the revelation of the affair, Walker issued a public apology and temporarily rented a nearby property. Despite the apology, their relationship has faced ongoing challenges, and progress towards reconciliation has been slow.

According to The Sun, Walker’s return to the family home is on a “trial basis” after several serious discussions during the summer. However, the future of their relationship remains uncertain.

“It reached a stage where they had to make a decision on their relationship,” a source said, according to the newspaper.

“It was unfair on everyone to drag it out any longer. They either had to make a go of it or move on. They’ve decided to see how things go. It’s on a trial basis.

Kyle’s been back for over a week now, and he’s sleeping in a separate bed on the third floor of the house. Annie is determined to do what she thinks is best for her kids.”

While another source added, “This year has been the toughest of their lives. There is still a huge amount of upset. It will be a work in progress for many years. But if they are to stand a chance, they both need to give it a go.”

As Kyle Walker navigates personal challenges at home, his professional career has also hit a rough patch. The Manchester City defender has struggled for game time this season, with his only appearance being a brief two-minute run against West Ham.

Adding to his woes, new England manager Lee Carsley left him out of the squad for the UEFA Nations League fixtures, marking a significant setback for the veteran player.

Walker now faces stiff competition for a spot in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI, having fallen behind youngster Rico Lewis in the City lineup.

The Premier League champions are set to face Brentford in their next league clash on Saturday, where Walker will be hoping to regain his place in the team.

Uber driver charged with m*rder after shooting female passenger in the head while r@ping her

Police say an Uber driver recently arrested in the death of an Indianapolis woman admitted he r@ped, sh0t and k!lled her after picking her up from work Sunday morning, September 8.

Francisco Valadez, 29, was arrested Tuesday morning, September 10, by Indianapolis homicide detectives and preliminarily charged with m*rder.

The Uber driver reportedly admitted to police that he shot and k!lled 30-year-old Chanti Dixon in a fit of rage after picking her up and attempting to r@pe her in the back of his car.

Valadez also allegedly admitted to dumping Dixon’s body in an alleyway in a wooded area near the victim’s home after trying to r@pe her corpse again.

“This is just disgusting all around and it did not have to happen,” said Indianapolis Metro police chief Chris Bailey.

According to court documents filed Tuesday in Marion County Court, officers were called around 1 p.m. Monday, September 9, to the 1800 block of Wagner Lane after a woman’s body was found in a nearby wooded area.

IMPD arrived to find a woman naked, unresponsive and lying on her stomach. The victim’s family said they tracked her phone to the woods behind her home where they found her body and called the police.

The woman, later identified by the Marion County Coroner’s Office as Dixon was pronounced de@d on the scene.

After the crime scene was processed for evidence, it was discovered that Dixon had suffered a gunshot wound to the left side of her head.

A woman near the scene told police that the de@d woman was her daughter who had been missing since early Sunday morning. The woman told officers her daughter had gotten off work around 3:30 a.m. and ordered an Uber to get home. No one had talked to her since.

IMPD crews reportedly found two cell phones in the wooded area near Dixon’s body, both of which belonged to Dixon. Her mother gave police the passcodes for both phones, which investigators said would eventually lead them to Valadez.

Once back at the homicide office, detectives found that Dixon had ordered an Uber at 3:34 a.m. from the 2300 block of W. 16th Street. She reportedly made one stop along Washington Street in the Uber before being taken in the same car to her home address on Earhart Street.

According to data stored in the Uber app, Dixon’s driver drove a BMW with an Indiana license plate, which detectives later connected to Valadez.

Detectives then went to Valadez’s home and began questioning him about Dixon. He told police that he did pick up Dixon on Sunday but then began to tell a story of how an armed Black man came up to his car and tried to rob Dixon.

“[Valadez] added that the suspect shot [Dixon] in the thigh and that she kicked herself out of his car and he fled the scene,” police wrote.

“He also said that he had cleaned the blood out of his car.”

Police also reportedly spoke with Valadez’s mother, who told them that her son owned a gun that he regularly carried. She added that he had recently cleaned out his car.

After seizing items inside his car for evidence, police took Valadez in for interrogation.

Admission and arrest Detectives took Valadez to the IMPD homicide office where he was reportedly read his Miranda Rights and signed a waiver agreeing to speak with police.

After telling several stories about what happened to Dixon, Valadez reportedly admitted what actually happened.

“Mr Valadez told two different stories as to what happened with Ms Dixon,” police wrote in the court documents.

Detectives said Valadez admitted to r@ping the woman in the back of his car.

While r@ping the woman, Valadez said she insulted his body. This reportedly caused him to become enraged and shoot Dixon in the head.

Valadez told police that after the shooting, he dragged Dixon out of his car and placed her lifeless body behind a concrete barrier at the dead end of Wagner Lane.

The Uber driver also admitted to trying to have s*x with Dixon’s de@d body, police said.

Valadez was then taken into custody by IMPD and later booked into the Marion County Jail on a felony m*rder charge. IMPD officials said Tuesday that more charges can be expected in the case.

An initial court hearing has not yet been scheduled.

Indianapolis police officials held a news conference Tuesday afternoon discussing Dixon’s murder and the arrest of Valadez.

“This is disgusting, it’s disturbing,” IMPD Chief Chris Bailey said during the conference.

“No one deserves to be treated this way in our community and I am so sorry to her family that we’re here today.”

Bailey then touched on the effect this has on the victim’s family.

“This is a family that’s been ripped apart,” he said.

“This woman is gone from the world unnecessarily by an evil act, and I’m glad that we were able to find this individual as quickly as we did so that he didn’t have an opportunity to perpetuate violence further in our community.”

IMPD’s social media accounts posted a photo of a gun seized in relation to the case.

Bailey indicated that more charges were forthcoming in the case and stressed that the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office would make the final charging decision.

“Women, girls, mothers … they have a right to exist freely in our community without fear of something heinous happening to them,” said IMPD Assistant Chief Catherine Cummings. “They have a right to walk, bike, order a rideshare without fearing something bad will happen to them.”

While they insist the murder is an isolated incident, IMPD said ride-share users can always share their location with friends and family and that women should trust their instincts if things feel dangerous.

“Rideshares continue to be an excellent and safe option to use when you’re out in our community,” said Cummings. “This is a family’s worst nightmare. We’re disgusted by these allegations.”

Statistic has been released that shows that OnlyFans content creators made more than the entire NBA players last year

A statistic has been released that shows that OnlyFans content creators made more than the entire NBA players last year.

OnlyFans content creators made well over a billion dollars more than elite basketball players, showing just how lucrative a career selling explicit videos can be.

Basketball Forever found that in 2023, OnlyFans creators all in all earned a whopping $6.6 billion compared to the $4.9 billion earned by NBA players.

The report has shocked people. However, the number of creators on OnlyFans, compared to the number of NBA players, accounts for the higher figures for OnlyFans.

While OnlyFans creators as a group collectively earned more than NBA players in 2023, the average salary of an NBA player remains significantly higher than an individual OnlyFans creator. Top NBA players consistently out-earn most creators on OnlyFans.

On the basketball front, Stephen Curry was the highest-paid basketball player earning a salary of $51,915,615 last season, according to ESPN.

Golden State Warriors have reportedly raised their point guard’s annual takings to $55,761,216. Last season, LeBron James earned a staggering $47,607,350 taking home the third highest earnings, behind the Phoenix Suns power forward Kevin Durant on $47,649,433.

Meanwhile, according to Medium, former Disney star Bella Thorne is estimated to earn a whopping $11 million in just a month on OnlyFans, which would see her top the list of NBA earners.

Meanwhile, less famous OnlyFans creator, Bonnie Blue, revealed how she made $250,000 in 21 days when she challenged herself to sleep with 122 college students during Spring Break.

However, there are fair chances that some OnlyFans creator may earn much more, considering their popularity.

Notably, one of the creators, Bryce Adams, who has a 10-acre property, where she runs her show, said in an interview with the Washington Post: “People don’t understand the scale of the opportunity. I mean, really: You can make your own world.”

People have taken to Twitter to react to the announcement.

One person hilariously wrote: “Doesn’t surprise me. I’d rather watch p**n than basketball.”

While another said: “2.1 million content creators on only fans. 600 players in the NBA if you count them carrying 20 players (off-season only) instead of 18.”

OnlyFans reportedly saw a whopping 28% rise in subscribers last year, with 305 million total fans logging into the website. Similarly, the website saw an increase in the number of creators as well.

Bruno Fernandes acts like a ‘diva’ sometimes -Emmanuel Petit

0

Emmanuel Petit has criticised Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, calling him a “diva” and suggesting that Kobbie Mainoo could be the future leader of the team.

The former Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona star praised Fernandes for his skill with the ball but questioned his suitability as captain due to his on-field conduct.

Petit noted that Fernandes frequently displays frustration towards his teammates during difficult moments, pointing to his behavior during United’s 7-0 loss to Liverpool in March 2023 as a prime example of his unsatisfactory leadership.

During an interview on Drive, Petit remarked: “I think he’s a good player, but I think he’s a diva.

He acts like a diva sometimes, not like a captain – he wears the armband, but if I’m honest with you, if I’m a teammate in the dressing room and you see the way he’s behaving sometimes on the pitch with his arms all the time complaining, you don’t want that from your captain.

You don’t want that from your teammate and you don’t expect that from your leaders.”

Petit suggested that Fernandes’ performance and demeanour have changed since signing his new bumper contract at Old Trafford.

“I was very impressed during COVID-19 without fans in the ground because he was amazing game after game,” he said. “But he signed a new contract and I saw him with Portugal as well and sometimes I get annoyed when I watch him on TV.

I just want to get into the TV and just play in front of him as an opponent to shake him on the pitch.”

https://youtu.be/4jxMmQfVprE

When asked who he would choose as Manchester United captain instead of Fernandes, Petit had a surprising suggestion.

He highlighted Kobbie Mainoo, a rising star in United’s ranks, as a potential future leader as the 18-year-old has impressed many with his mature performances and calmness on the field.

“It’s hard to find the right leader in the team, but the best player so far this season is the youngest one or even (Alejandro) Garnacho,” Petit said, referring to Mainoo.

“I think Mainoo has the potential to wear the armband but he’s too young.”

Bruno Fernandes’ exceptional vision has established him as the key orchestrator in Manchester United’s midfield, with the Portuguese star racking up an impressive 79 goals and 67 assists across 237 games.

He is set to return to action in their upcoming match against newly-promoted Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday, September 14.

I was shocked to see houses registered in my name – Lusambo’s wife  Nancy

I was shocked to see houses registered in my name – Lusambo’s wife Nancy

WIFE of former Lusaka province minister Bowman Lusambo, Nancy has told the Economic and Financial Crimes Court that she was shocked when she learned that the houses which her husband owns in Silverest Gardens were registered in her names.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/ZsKmrPyjBaaeXceS/?mibextid=oFDknk

In her defense, Nancy told Lusaka magistrate Faidess Hamaundu that it would be difficult to explain about her acquisition of the houses as she never paid for them nor did she engage with the sellers, Henan Gouji.

“It will be very difficult for me to comment on the houses in Silverest Gardens in the sense that I have never dealt with the owners and I don’t know them. I do not have any business to do with the Silverest Gardens,”Manase said.

“I have never gone there as Nancy Natasha Manase for any business agreements. In short, I don’t know anything to do with Silverest Gardens.”

When asked by her lawyer Likando Kalaluka if she paid for the properties, Manase said she never paid for the properties.

Asked why the properties were registered in her names Manase said ; “I am shocked! I am seeing these documents for the first time and I am not aware of the payment because I have never paid these kinds of monies.”

When asked to confirm if at all it was her names indicated on the properties, Manase responded in the affirmative.

“I am still shocked. The comment still stands that I did not pay the money. I can confirm it’s Nancy Natasha Manase,” she said.

Manase confirmed that she opted to remain silent when she was being quizzed by the Anti-Corruption Commission officers because she knew nothing about the properties.

During cross examination by Daniel Ngwira, the Bulldozeress said she was asked if the receipts were collected by ACC officers and she responded in the affirmative.

Asked if she personally saw ACC officers collect the receipts from their home, Manase confirmed.

When told to explain some features on the receipts, Manase said; “the ACC were just picking things everywhere. They never called me to see what they got but they got a lot of receipts and documents.”

“I did not see the receipts but I saw a lot of receipts. They (ACC officers) were alone when they were collecting. And I was alone. My husband was out.”

When asked if she alerted Lusambo about what happened, Manase said she told him that ACC collected everything.

She said she could not confirm that Lusambo acquired properties without informing her.

When asked how many properties Lusambo had acquired during the subsistence of their marriage, Manase said she cannot tell.

Earlier in re- examination, Lusambo said he had the right to register the properties in his wife’s name, as he shows regard for her as the mother of his children.

“I told Henan Gouji officers to put these properties in my wife’s name and the document before court is not a receipt. It’s a statement and if it was a receipt, it could have shown my name. I have the receipts in my house, under my name,” he said.

He said he paid $30,000 and a Jeep grand Cherokee for the properties.

Asked why he said that he does not know where his wife got the money to pay for the properties, Lusambo explained that; ”I responded that I don’t know because earlier I told this court that I paid this money and I gave a vehicle, a jeep, white in colour which was treated as cash to Silverest gardens and I said I was paying for the four houses in one basket.”

He said following their union, the couple became one in marriage hence whatever belongs to him also belongs to his wife.

“I told this court that I know my wife very well. I’ve been with her for more than 24 years. She is trustworthy and I know I am the one who paid and not her. And this money came from businesses and other sources. So it is money from me and so by virtue of that, it is our money. She is the mother of my kids and I respect her,” Lusambo explained further.

Lusambo said he did not threaten anyone at the Ndola City Council with a transfer as he was not a minister during the time he is alleged to have acquired land.

“A minister has no right over any human resource. And during the period under review, I was a PF candidate, I had no authority to hold a meeting,”Lusambo said.

When asked why he did not produce receipts for his properties, Lusambo said ; “Sometime in 2021 to 2022, ACC officers led by Christopher Siwakwi pounced on my house in Chamba Valley and got all the receipts and documents. They also got my wife’s phone and the unused phones. So I had no sight of the receipts because they are in the custody of the ACC.”

He further clarified that he was paid $350,000 by Mimbula Consortium Limited in by the Chief Executive Officer in cash.

Lusambo said his fancy Chamba valley house is not valued at K17,600,000

“I bought my plot at K75,000. And from the time I started building that house in about 2012, cement was about K5. So, the cost of the house could not reach this house. I also engaged an independent evaluator,” said Lusambo

Lusambo is facing 10 corruption-related charges among them; one count of corrupt acquisition of public property, five counts of possessing property suspected to be proceeds of crime, three counts of tax evasion and one count of conspiracy to defraud.

He is jointly charged with his wife Nancy Manase for possessing four houses in Silverest Gardens, Chongwe which were suspected to be procceds of crime.

It’s Immoral For Emmanuel Mwamba To Drag HH Into Archbishop Alick Banda’s Woes

One of the earth-shattering developments to have rocked the nation these past few days is obviously news of the Lusaka Diocese, Archbishop Alick Banda, being embroiled in the ongoing trial in the Lusaka magistrates court in which former Zambia Revenue Authority Commissioner General, Kingsley Chanda and another person are facing 22 counts of wilful failure to comply with procedure relating to the manner they disposed of 22 used motor vehicles belonging to the commission and obviously abuse of authority.

According to the testimony of one Suzyo Ng’andu, a former board secretary of ZRA, procedure was not followed when “gifting” the ‘most revered’ Archibishop an impressive Toyota Hilux, commonly known as Ichipaso in the local parlance! As per procedure, the motor vehicle has since been confiscated by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC). This matter has obviously been widely covered by both government and private media.

However, in his feeble attempts to always try and discredit or smear President Hichilema given any golden opportunity, Emmanuel Mwamba enthusiastically took to his Facebook and offered the following hypothesis : “Just the other week President HH was apologising to the Catholic Church saying he doesn’t hate or fight the Church but a witness former ZRA Board Secretary, Suzyo Ngandu, was called to testify in the Financial and Economic Crimes Court where former Commissioner General, Kingsley Chanda and Director, Calistus Kaoma are charged with abuse of authority regarding the disposal of 22 vehicles.”

Honesty speaking, what’s the connection between the two? How does the name of tge President come into the picture?

It’s obviously common knowledge that the President took time to apologize to the Catholic church on behalf of his party and government for any perceived wrong doing that might have led to any acrimony or misgivings between the two parties and appealed for collaboration for the good of this nation! Was Archibishop Banda even in attendance during the service in Kabwe last week or even the meeting at State House which was held much earlier? Shouldn’t we as Christians always be quick to forgive?

Coming back to the issue of the court case, whenever any of us is called to testify in court, we are made to hold the Bible aloft and solemnly swear that “the evidence we shall render before this court shall be nothing but the truth.”

It’s in such circumstances that Archibishop Banda’s name came up in the magistrates court. Did Mwamba expect the witness to somehow cover up the truth to protect the good image of the Archibishop or indeed the President to swiftly move in and gag the witness or derail the course of justice and allow any wrong-doers to go scot free simply because a Catholic priest is involved?

What sort of warped reasoning is this?

By choosing to associate with the previous corrupt and brutal PF regime to such an extent of accepting ‘contaminated gifts” to satisfy his perchance for earthly possessions ba Banda has brought the good name of the Catholic church into ridicule and disrepute! Is it true he was known as a bling-bling Bishop during his Ndola days? Ba Zima Ndola confirm, please.

There’s only one option left on the table for Archibishop Banda….to apologise and resign from his priestly duties immediately and join his friend Edgar Chagwa Lungu in politics other than continuing to hide in the Church!

PF UNDERSTOOD THE NEEDS OF MEN AND WOMEN IN UNIFORM – HON KAMPYONGO

….as he urges the officers to remain professional & refrain from following political instructions

Kabwe… Friday September 13, 2024 (SMART EAGLES)

Former Home Affairs Minister Hon Stephen Kampyongo says the Patriotic Front government understood the needs of the men and women in uniform and cared for them.

Hon Kampyongo says as can be seen, the PF government built descent housing units for the men and women in uniform which he said motivated them to do their duties diligently.

The PF Shiwang’andu Constituency Member of Parliament also noted that even the same Kalonga Milling Plant in Kabwe which is producing Kalonga mealie meal, was built by the previous government.

Hon Kampyongo was speaking yesterday when he featured on Cloud FM in Kabwe.

“When we were in office we thought of our men and women in uniforms. You saw the houses they were living in, including here in Kabwe. So, we built them descent houses and this made them proud. Even the Kalonga mealie meal that the people are lining up everyday to buy, it was built by the PF government. This was done because we have a heart for the people and our officers,” he said.

And Hon Kampyongo has urged officers to be professional in the discharge of their duties and not just follow political instructions.

He said even some of the cases that have been taken to court, some officers are failing to defend their actions in court because they just followed political instructions.

Hon Kampyongo further said political parties come and go hence the need for the officers to do their duties professionally.

He said it is sad that certain institutions that are there to look at the conduct and welfare of the officers such as the Police Complaints Authority and Police Service Commission are not proactive.

“So for me, it’s just to appeal to the officers to do the right thing. And I keep repeating this that, whilst you are supposed to grow the capacity of an institution like the Zambia Police Service with well educated officers who are right to take any position in terms of command structure. You can’t wake up someone who retired many years ago from the service to come back and provide a service. Because you don’t know this person could have been a carder all that time he was not working. We should have competent men and women to command the police service professionally. People should rise in ranks,” he stated.

POVERTY, HUNGER REACHES ALARMING LEVELS IN ZAMBIA

POVERTY, HUNGER REACHES ALARMING LEVELS IN ZAMBIA

….the hunger situation in the country is not due to drought but deliberate inability to give priority to the welfare & livelihood of the people & create sustainable wealth for the hardworking citizens by govt, says Eng Katotobwe

Kabwe… Friday, September 13, 2024 (SMART EAGLES)

Luapula Constituency PF Member of Parliament Eng Chanda Katotobwe has charged that the UPND administration has crippled the country’s economy due to poor economic policies and incompetence

The Luapula Constituency Lawmaker has charged that there is too much hunger in the country induced by the UPND government.

Eng Katotobwe says one issue that has contributed to the crippling of the economy is prolonged hours of load-shedding.

Speaking when he featured on KNC Radio in Kabwe yesterday, alongside Hon Given Lubinda the PF Vice President and Hon Mutotwe Kafwaya, Lunte lawmaker, Eng Katotobwe argued that this is not the first drought the country has witnessed for the UPND to continue blaming climate change.

He stated that due to advancement in science and technology, nations are able to predict the weather patterns for the coming season.

“Nowadays, because of advancement in science and technology, you are able to predict the weather patterns for the coming season and plan well. This drought is there within the region, but other countries have cushioned its impact. Our friends within the region are experiencing fewer hours of load-shedding because they prepared for this drought. Our colleagues in the region are having about three hours of load-shedding a day, and they are feeling the impact. What more are our people who have one to three hours of power per day?” He questioned.

“There is too much hunger in the country induced by the UPND government. In Kabwe here, we are reliably informed that you are only having one hour of electricity. How then can small businesses who can’t afford a generator and the cost of fuel survive? Our people are finding it difficult to do business in these markets because of the unavailability of power.” The cost of living and all basic essential commodities have increased in some cases, double or triple what was prevalent under PF regime, then what is even more tragic is lack of proportionate increase in salaries or earnings by the majority of our people. It’s the responsibility of Govt to ensure the welfare of our people is given utmost priority.”

Meanwhile, Eng Katotobwe has observed that Zambia is not poised for meaningful participation in the 4th Industrial Revolution due to poor planning, extremely poor governance and lack of respect for Science and Technology as there is no nation in this world which has successfully industrialised without investment in science and technology.

“There’s too much rhetoric with no positive yield in technological sovereignty,” he emphasized.

He said the sad part is that the country’s resources continue being looted in raw form with zero mineral beneficiation or value addition in this century.

He wondered how the nation can trigger industrialisation.

MINISTER ELVIS NKANDU CHALLENGED TO DISCLOSE HOW MUCH HE BENEFITED FROM FUEL TANKERS MEANT FOR YOUTHS.

MINISTER ELVIS NKANDU CHALLENGED TO DISCLOSE HOW MUCH HE BENEFITED FROM FUEL TANKERS MEANT FOR YOUTHS.

…….as KAPESIKA Director reportedly bolts with Millions of dollars which are proceeds from the Fuel Tankers.

Lusaka…….Thursday, 12 September, 2024 (Smart Eagles)

Mporokoko Member of Parliament Hon Brian Mundubile has challenged Minister Of Youth, Sports and Arts Elvis Nkandu to tell the nation how much he benefited from the Fuel Tankers meant for the Youths.

This follows the disappearance of the Director of Kapesika who is reported to have left the country with Millions of dollars, proceeds from the Tankers.

KAPESIKA is a company that was key to the running of the fuel Tankers.

Hon Mundubile said what remains unclear is that there has been no accountability for the money that these tankers have been making for the past four years.

He  said the President must therefore take interest in what is happening at the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts.

Hon Mundubile said he is aware that at some point, the operations of these tankers were stopped as a scheme so that they confuse Audit trail.

He said the Anti-Corruption Commission must get involved and take interest in what has happened to the revenue and income generated by these tankers.

“There is a well researched programme we left, that youths could get involved in the energy sector as transporters. A number of fuel tankers were procured for our Youths to transport fuel.  When you came into power, they confiscated those tankers, and found out that later,  bought some more tankers to their youths and later gave these tankers that earlier benefited.

We are aware that one gentleman who was central to this operation left this country. There has been no mention.

The Minister of Youth must come clean and tell us how this person left the country. Let the Minister of Youth and Sports come clear and tell us how he benefited from the proceeds of these tankers. Why is it that an individual who left this country with Millions of dollars belonging to the youths, and the Ministry left his country quietly.

And Hon Mundubile said government must attach some seriousness to this matter.

“What does the Hon Minister know about the disappearance of this individual. There was a bounty of K2 million placed on JJ. There is a gentleman who runs away with a lot of money. We challenge the Minister of Youth to tell the nation how he benefited from the money that came from  the fuel tankers,” he said.

Hon Mundubile said the Anti-Corruption Commission must investigate and tell the country how the Officials from the Ministry of Youth benefited.

“By now. The youths that took those tankers are supposed to own those tankers in full. Why does Government still got interest, Hon Elvis Nkandun should tell the country what he knows about the disappearance of the Director of Kapesika, “ he said.

THE KABWE HIGH COURT RESERVES RULING

….on the bail pending appeal & review the arson conviction in the case involving Hon Chitotela, Hon Chilangwa & four others

Kabwe… Thursday September 12, 2024 (SMART EAGLES)

The Kabwe High Court has reserved it’s ruling on two applications made by lawyers representing incarcerated Kawambwa Central PF Member of Parliament Hon Nickson Chilangwa and his Pambashe counterpart Hon Ronald Chitotela and four others.

The two applications are bail pending appeal and the review of the arson conviction.

Defense Lawyer Counsel Benjamin Mwelwa informed the PF sympathizers who had gathered at the Kabwe High Court grounds to offer solidarity to their leaders that the ruling for the bail pending appeal is coming up on the 20th September, 2024.

Counsel Mwelwa further informed the sympathizers that the review of the arson conviction will come up during the October criminal session.

“Today we came up for two applications… One is bail pending appeal and the second one is to review the arson conviction. So both applications came up today, and we argued both applications and the ruling has been reserved by the court. For the bail, its coming up next week on the 20th September, 2024. That is when we are going to know whether we will be granted bail or not,” he said.

“To review the conviction, the State did not file the opposition, but we argued our matter and they asked the court to allow them file the opposition which was done. And we have been given seven days within which they should file their opposition. And we have been seven days thereafter to file our reply.”

He said by next week, the nation will know whether they will be given the bail or not.

“So the Judge has said he is going deliver the ruling during the criminal session in October. So we are coming back here for the review of the conviction in October. Next week we will know how we are going to proceed with the bail,” he added.

“In October we are going to know whether the conviction will be sustained. If the conviction is sustained, then the court will proceed to sentence those people who are convicted for arson, if not, then we maybe lack that they are acquitted.”

Other people convicted include Kawambwa Council Chairperson Chifumbe Kalumba, Davy Kaniki, Chabu Chitotela and Kunda Chitotela.

And Patriotic Front Vice President Hon Given Lubinda led PF Members of Parliament, party officials and other sympathizers to offer solidarity to the incarcerated leaders.

LUSAKA SIDE CHICK ATTACKS MARRIED BOYFRIEND TOGETHER WITH WIFE

LUSAKA SIDE CHICK ATTACKS MARRIED BOYFRIEND TOGETHER WITH WIFE

A LOVE triangle in Lusaka took a dark turn when a baby mama attacked her lover and his wife, only to later sue the wife in court.

Phenya Mbangwe, 29 Lusaka’s Kasupe area was sued by her husband’s self appointed second wife,  Beauty Mulenga, 23 also of Kasupe to the Matero local court for the case of compensation for insults on grounds that she had insulted her.

“She is my elder sister in marriage (Amai gulu) I  got married to her husband In 2021 but she then started laughing at my breasts and said my child who is one month old will never grow. Every time when we meet she shouts at me with her sister I am even scared of using the bus station,” Mulenga said.

Unknown to the court, Mulenga had cooked up the story to escape the hands of justice as the family to her baby daddy who she said was also her husband, threatened to sue her to court for insulting the family elder.

According to reports, due to the problems that Mulenga had caused in Mbangwe’s home, her boyfriend’s eldest brother in the family decided to follow her and seat her down together with the baby daddy, to find out if at all his young brother had intentions of marrying her as well.

But before they could even enter her house, she showered them with Nkana FC supporters’ insults, calling her supposed elder brother in-law a barking male in her native language, Bemba.

So when she heard that they wanted to bring her to court, she rushed to buy a summon first.

In Court Mbangwe acknowledged that Mulenga was her husband’s girlfriend.

“One day, I was walking with my husband when we met her by the road side. She saw us, she went and grabbed my husband by his shirt and asked him why he doesn’t pick her calls, and she started to undress both my husband and I with insults and embarrassed us in the compound. I wanted to beat her, but my husband stopped me.”

“The next day after the attack, my husband told me that he was going for work at the mine but instead, went to sleep at her house and even stole my things to go and give her. I have been married to him for 11 years and I was hurt that he would steal my things to impress a girlfriend secretly,” Mbangwe said.

And in her submission, she denied ever insulting Mulenga and said all she wanted was for her to stop publicly undressing her and her husband with insults as the reason why she buys and wears clothes is to hide her nakedness.

“She should also stop undressing my husband because I buy him clothes to cover him up. If she doesn’t respect him, I respect him as the father of my four children.” Mbangwe said.

But in Mulenga’s submission, she said she was fighting with her ‘husband’ and not Mbangwe, as she has the rights to do so and was asking her baby daddy over his plans towards her.

Meanwhile, the cause of the chaos and drama, unemployed Phenious Mpangula, 35, who came to court reeking of Kachasu said the two were all his women as he managed to feed them.

“But the young one doesn’t count or respect the older one. She doesn’t even listen to me as she insults us,” he complained.

While the family asked Mpangula to tell them his plans for Mulenga as they were tired of sitting them down, Magistrate Lewin Mumba dismissed the case for compensation for insults as the defendant was found with no case to answer.

“The Plaintiff is an aggressor and is stealing the friend’s husband. So the court has dismissed this case,” said magistrate Mumba.

ADDRESSING ZAMBIA’S ENERGY SECTOR: EXPECTATIONS FROM THE PRESIDENTIAL SPEECH

ADDRESSING ZAMBIA’S ENERGY SECTOR: EXPECTATIONS FROM THE PRESIDENTIAL SPEECH

*By: Engineer Bornface Zulu*
*Date:13- September 2024*

As an energy expert in Zambia, the anticipation surrounding the presidential speech during the opening of Parliament today is palpable. The energy sector, a cornerstone of our nation’s development, faces significant challenges, particularly with the persistent issue of load shedding. The President’s address is expected to outline strategic measures to tackle these challenges and set a clear path forward for improving our energy mix and attracting investment.

*Addressing Load Shedding*

Load shedding has been a persistent issue in Zambia, affecting both the economy and the daily lives of citizens. The President must acknowledge the severity of this problem and present a comprehensive plan to mitigate it. This plan should include:

1. *Diversification of Energy Sources*: Relying heavily on hydroelectric power has made Zambia vulnerable to climate change and droughts. Expanding our energy mix to include solar, wind, and biomass can provide more stability and reduce the risk of load shedding.

2. *Investment in Infrastructure*: Upgrading and expanding the existing energy infrastructure is crucial. This includes improving transmission and distribution networks to reduce losses and ensure efficient delivery of electricity. Especially the interconnection distribution lines coming from Mozambique to increase imports of power to mitigate the current  load shading situation since the capacity of the current interconnection line is limited major upgrades have to be done , The work on the Tanzania Zambia interconnection line has begun the government must ensure the rate of work should be done in fastest possible time.

3. *Energy Efficiency Programs*: Promoting energy efficiency in both residential and industrial sectors can help reduce overall demand and ease the burden on the grid.

*Cost-Reflective Electricity Tariffs*

One of the critical points the President should address is the implementation of cost-reflective electricity tariffs. This move is essential for several reasons:

1. *Attracting Investment*: Cost-reflective tariffs make the energy sector more attractive to both local and foreign investors. Investors need assurance that they will receive a fair return on their investments, which is only possible if tariffs reflect the true cost of production and distribution.

2. *Ensuring Sustainability*: Subsidized electricity prices are not sustainable in the long run. They strain government resources and discourage private sector participation. By adopting cost-reflective tariffs, the government can ensure the financial viability of the energy sector.

3. *Improving Service Delivery*: With adequate revenue from cost-reflective tariffs, energy providers can invest in better infrastructure, maintenance, and service delivery, ultimately benefiting consumers.

*The Path Forward*

To ensure the successful implementation of these measures, the President should highlight the following key points:

1. *Policy and Regulatory Reforms*: Establishing a clear and supportive regulatory framework is essential for attracting investment and ensuring the smooth operation of the energy sector.

2. *Public-Private Partnerships*: Encouraging collaboration between the government and private sector can accelerate the development of new energy projects and bring in the necessary expertise and capital.

3. *Community Engagement*: Involving local communities in energy projects can enhance acceptance and support for new initiatives. This includes educating the public about the benefits of cost-reflective tariffs and energy efficiency.

4. *Regional Cooperation*: Strengthening ties with neighboring countries for energy trade and interconnectivity can provide additional stability and opportunities for Zambia’s energy sector.

*Conclusion*

The President’s speech today is a pivotal moment for Zambia’s energy sector. By addressing the critical issues of load shedding and cost-reflective tariffs, and by outlining a clear and actionable plan, the government can pave the way for a more stable, efficient, and sustainable energy future. This bold step is not only necessary to end load shedding but also to position Zambia as a regional energy hub, attracting investment and fostering economic growth.

ANDD EXPECTS PRESIDENT HH TO ADDRESS ENERGY CRISIS CHALLENGES

….as the Head of State officially opens Parliament today

Lusaka… Friday September 13, 2024 (SMART EAGLES)

The Advocates for National Development and Democracy (ANDD) says representatives of the majority of Zambians, will keenly be interested in understanding the Government’s practical solutions to address the ongoing energy crisis in the country.

ANDD Executive Director Samuel Banda says the energy crisis continues to directly impact the domestic economy and shrink economic activities.

Mr Banda says small businesses are closing daily, contributing significantly to the already high levels of unemployment and poverty levels in the country.

“Businesses such as butcheries, salons, welders, barber shops, bars, restaurants, and other energy dependent enterprises are collapsing every day. Mr. President, many Zambians cannot afford to purchase solar power equipment,” he said.

“Therefore, we are eager to learn about the short term and long term measures your Government is implementing to address the energy crisis. Additionally, the rising cost of living is negatively affecting the lives of Zambians. We want to put it on  record that the majority of Zambians voted for you to reduce the cost of living and improve their standards of living. As you address Parliament today, we, as Advocates for National Development and Democracy, urge you to update the nation on the policies your Government is enacting to reduce the cost of living and improve the living standards of Zambians.”

He stated that under the UPND administration, the cost of doing business has continued to rise, negatively impacting small enterprises.

“Many businesses are struggling to cope with the current economic environment, leading to company closures and reduced labor forces. This situation exacerbates the existing high levels of poverty and unemployment,” he added.

“The Zambian people are eager to know what measures, both long term and short term, your Government is implementing to create a sustainable business environment that will support the growth of the private sector, which is crucial for stabilizing and developing the economy.”

He further observed with concern that President Hichilema’s Government has labeled Zambians attempting to benefit from their minerals as illegal miners.

“While we recognize that mining is a cornerstone of our national economic development, we urge your office to expedite the issuance of mining licenses to Zambians to combat illegal mining effectively. Empowering Zambians with mining licenses will help them maximize the benefits from their natural resources,” he concluded.

“Lastly, Mr. President, during the official opening of Parliament, we urge you to focus on presenting sound economic policies that will address the critical economic challenges facing our country, rather than discussing opposition political parties. We implore you to spend adequate time providing policy direction that will address these pressing issues.”

There will be no third debate with Kamala Harris – Trump

0

Former USA President, Donald Trump declared Thursday, September 12 that there will be “NO THIRD DEBATE” with Vice President Kamala Harris, half an hour after an internal campaign poll showed Kamala got no polling bounce in key states while Trump got a “2-point bump” from their verbal sparring match on ABC News on Tuesday night, September 10.

“When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are ‘I WANT A REMATCH,’” Trump, 78, posted on his Truth Social.

“Polls clearly show that I won the Debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Democrats’ Radical Left Candidate, on Tuesday night, and she immediately called for a Second Debate.”

After being a “no-show” at a pre-planned Fox News debate that President Biden negotiated, Harris also “refused to do NBC & CBS” debates against him, Trump claimed.

“KAMALA SHOULD FOCUS ON WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE DURING THE LAST ALMOST FOUR YEAR PERIOD,” Trump said in his Truth Social post.

“She and Crooked Joe have destroyed our Country, with millions of criminals and mentally deranged people pouring into the USA, totally unchecked and unvetted, and with Inflation bankrupting our Middle Class.”

“Everyone knows this, and all of the other problems caused by Kamala and Joe – It was discussed in great detail during the First Debate with Joe, and the Second Debate with Comrade Harris,” he added

There will be no third debate with Kamala Harris – Trump declares after campaign releases memo touting gains in ?target states?

Trump campaign officials had lobbied for a September 25 debate on NBC News, but Harris’ team never confirmed she would show for that date.

Kamala’s crew also turned down a September 4 debate on Fox News, prompting Trump to hold a town hall event in battleground Pennsylvania with host Sean Hannity instead.

The survey of likely general election voters in seven swing states showed the two-point boost in both a hypothetical six-way race and head-to-head matchup between Trump, 78, and Harris, 59, a campaign memo from pollsters Tony Fabrizio and Travis Tunis shows.

Trump leads Harris, 49% to 46%, on a ballot that includes Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Libertarian Party candidate Chase Oliver and independent candidates Cornel West and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., each of whom received 1% or less support.

In a one-on-one race, the former president beats the current vice president, 50% to 47%.

Before their verbal sparring match, Trump and Harris were tied at 46% on the six-candidate ballot and at 48% on the two-candidate ballot.

Another 3% were undecided before and remained so after the debate.

“Clearly, target state voters were not impressed by Kamala Harris’ empty platitudes and while the media would have people believe she is cruising to victory, this couldn’t be farther from the truth,” the memo states.

The Trump campaign survey took place on Wednesday night and included opinions from 1,893 voters in the seven target states.

A 17-year-old boy stabbed his mother to d3ath in Florida just one year after he shot and killed his father

A 17-year-old boy stabbed his mother to d3ath in Florida just one year after he shot and killed his father in Oklahoma, according to police.

Collin Griffith called 911 on Sunday night, September 8, and claimed that his mother, 39-year-old Catherine Griffith, was stabbed in the neck during a fight after she lunged at him with a knife and fell on it, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Police rushed to the home, where Catherine was pronounced dead.

Deputies asked Collin what had happened, but he became “uncooperative” and demanded to speak to a lawyer.

Investigators quickly discovered that the evidence at the scene did not match the situation the teen described to police over the phone.

Witnesses told detectives that Collin and his mother were shouting at each other outside the residence when they saw the boy grab his mother by the hair and drag her inside as she repeatedly pleaded, “Let me go.”

“He opens up the door and there are few arguments. Don’t know exactly what the words were because I was sitting on my front porch. Next thing I know, he grabs her and pulls her inside the house,” Nancy K. Jones, who lives across the street, told WFLA. “He just grabbed her — looked like he grabbed her by the hair.”

Collin’s grandmother — who was not present during the stabbing but owns the home where it happened — told police that the teen has been physically or verbally confrontational with his mother in several instances in the past, WFLA reported.

The grandmother reportedly told Jones before that Collin “had problems.”

The medical examiner’s office’s autopsy revealed that Catherine Griffin died of a deep knife wound to the neck. The wound was deemed to be inconsistent with an accidental injury.

The teenager is now an orphan as he allegedly k!lled his dad as well.

Collin fatally shot his father, Charles Robert Griffith, in 2023 during an altercation at their Oklahoma home on Valentine’s Day, claiming self-defence, according to an arrest affidavit. He was 15 years old at the time.

The teen told police he had been cornered by his dad in the bedroom of the house, so he picked up a gun and shot him twice — once in the chest and once in the head.

Collin’s mother paid $50,000 to bail him out of jail, records show.

The charges were later dropped as self-defence could not be ruled out, according to the Lincoln County, Oklahoma, District Attorney’s Office.

He was reunited with his mother exactly a year after he shot his father, through Florida’s Department of Children and Families.

He first threatened to kill Catherine at that time, before allegedly killing her on Sunday.

“Collin Griffith is a violent predator — he has now killed both his father and his mother,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement. “We will hold him accountable in Polk County — we will do everything we can to keep him separated from civil society.”

The 17-year-old is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and violation of a no-contact order.

Cristiano Ronaldo opens up on life with his five children and why he won’t put pressure on his son to be a footballer

0

Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up about his family life outside of football and how his competitive edge has been passed on to his children.

Just last week, Ronaldo aged 39 became the first player in football history to score 900 career goals as he found the net for Portugal against Croatia.

Ronaldo has two children with girlfriend Georgia Rodriguez, while he fathers three others with the Argentine-Spanish model, who were all born via a surrogate mother.

His eldest son, Cristiano Jr, is trying to follow in his footsteps and currently plays for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr’s youth set-up, while Ronaldo continues his venture with the senior side.

And when speaking to his former Manchester United team-mate Rio Ferdinand, Ronaldo revealed that his competitiveness has spread to his five children.

“They all have my personality” – Cristiano Ronaldo opens up on life with his five children and why he won

‘I was in the Red Sea a couple of days ago, I play every day padel. Me and Cristiano Jr get mad, we don’t speak for like two days,’ he told the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast.

‘This is why I’m happy, even the small one Matteo [gets competitive], I like it. It shows they have personality.

‘Seriously, my kids, they are like me. I don’t teach them but they see by example because sometimes when I lose I get angry, sometimes I cry, depends on the moment.

‘They are kind of the same, so even with my kids I compete, I always want to win. I don’t give nothing for free.’

Despite his son’s development in the sport, Ronaldo is keen to not demand too much from the talented youngster.

‘This generation, it is difficult to tell them something and let them do it,’ he continued. ‘They will always see their daddy as an example, they see me every day in what I do, at home, in training, or in a game. They see me work a lot.

‘Right in this moment, Cristiano wants to be a football player but I don’t make big pressure, I make a little.

‘He’s 14 years old, he has pressure already to be the son of Cristiano [senior]. Let him do his own mistakes, but I hope that in the future he can be a professional player.

‘If he doesn’t become a player, maybe another job, but I will always support him. We cannot put pressure on our sons because we are famous.’

Nigeria floods affect one million people after dam collapse

0

The collapse of a dam in northeast Nigeria has caused severe flooding, destroying thousands of homes and worsening a dire humanitarian crisis.

The flooding in Borno State has affected a million people, the state governor said on Wednesday, straining resources as authorities scramble to rescue residents and place them in temporary shelters.

Heavy rains had caused a dam to overflow on Tuesday, decimating a state-owned zoo and washing crocodiles and snakes into flooded communities.

Al Jazeera’s Ahmed Idris, reporting from Maiduguri in Nigeria, said a “stream of people” are currently making their way out of areas covered by the floodwaters.

He said civilians have been searching in the water with limited diving equipment to save as many people as possible.

“We’ve seen dead bodies arriving,” he said, adding that a successful rescue operation saw baby twins saved from the floodwaters and moved to safety.

Local officials said it was the worst flooding in the state in two decades, but authorities have yet to announce deaths.

Idris reported that Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima visited people displaced by the floods on Tuesday evening and promised to provide them with food, shelter and medicine. A day later, Idris said that very few supplies had reached those people.

Borno State governor Babagana Zulum visited Bakassi camp on Wednesday and told reporters that authorities were assessing the damage and a quarter of the state capital, Maiduguri, had been flooded.

“You can see how water completely flooded the area, sewerages were completely flooded, that means waterborne diseases would be transmitted,” Zulum told reporters while meeting affected residents.

The dam collapse is compounding a humanitarian crisis in Borno over the past decade due to a rebellion started by the Boko Haram armed group. The rebellion, which has spilled across borders around Lake Chad, has killed more than 35,000 people, displaced 2.6 million others in the country’s north-east region.

Bakassi camp used to house tens of thousands of people who were displaced by the Boko Haram rebellion. The camp had been closed last year.

The National Emergency Management Agency said that floods in Nigeria have killed 229 people since the start of the year.

In late August, flooding killed 49 people and displaced thousands in three states – Jigawa, Adamawa and Taraba – after heavy rains in the country’s northeast.

The worst flooding in recent times killed 600 people in 2022.

We face an economic shut-down- President Hichilema

A Begging Bowl, an embarrassing gesture

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba wrote;

President Hakainde Hichilema has
urged the World Bank Group to take necessary decisions and steps to help Zambia avoid going into an economic shutdown.

President Hichilema said there was urgent  need for the World Bank Group to make a decision on the Catastrophe Deferred Drawdown Option (Cat DDO) so as to help Zambia avoid an economic shutdown.

The Cat DDO is a contingent credit line that provides immediate liquidity to International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) member countries in the aftermath of a natural disaster.

Hichilema has also earlier requested the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to increase  the Extended Credit Facility bail-out from $1.3billion to $1.7billion.

But Hichilema has failed to take responsibility for his own failures and has refused to take action against the criminal negligence of his appointed officials at ZESCO and Ministry of Agriculture.

ZESCO’S NEGLIGENCE

Despite repeated expert warning of reduced water in Kariba, ZESCO kept on exporting large quantities of power and exhausted Water allocation for 2024 in  June 2024

The Zambezi River Authority announced that it had allocated 16 Billion Cubic Meters (BCM) of water to be shared equally between ZESCO Limited (ZESCO) and Kariba Hydro Power Company (KHPC) for their power generation operations at Kariba for the year 2024.

The 2024 water allocation was informed by the 2023/2024 rainfall forecasts made by the Southern Africa Climate Outlook Forum-27 (SARCOF-27), Famine Early Warning Network (FEWS-NET) and the corresponding downscaled projections by the National Metrological Agencies of Zambia and Zimbabwe, which showed reduced rainfall for catchment areas feeding Zambezi river and Lake Kariba.

This adverse outlook was highly influenced by the increasing occurrence of El Niño weather which would significantly impact negatively, the rainfall season in Southern Africa.

MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE NEGLIGENCE

Similarly, despite these warning of the impact of the El Nino weather effect, the Zambian Government through the Ministry of Agriculture kept on exporting maize to the region and depleted the national maize strategic reseves.

Now the country is forced to look for fresh resources to buy maize grain to meet the sharp market demand for both human and animal consumption and for mealie-meal which forms part of the nations staple food.

After these careless and dangerous decisions, President Hakainde Hichilema declared the drought as national dusaster and emergency and announced that the country was begging for $900 million as the drought had devastating consequences on many critical sectors such as agriculture, water availability and energy supply, risking national food security and livelihoods of millions of Zambians.

ABANDONING DOMESTIC RESOURCES CHOOSING TO BEG

President Hichilema’s government has granted tax concessions and incentives to the mines.

He has abandoned a process for ZCCM-IH to recover $2.5billion stolen from Kansanshi Copper and Gold Mine.

He allowed externalisation of resources in illicit flows to tax havens and offshore accounts abroad as investiagted by the Financial Intelligence Centre.

He has abandoned the fight against corruption and allowed the Treasury to be pillaged.

He has increased efforts to beg for international grants and  loans.

UPND IS A FAILED GOVERNMENT- KALABA

…their leaders continue to operate as if everything is normal in the country.

LUSAKA, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER, 12,2024 (SMART EAGLES)

CITIZENS First President Harry Kalaba says the UPND is a failed government that came into power through lies ahd will be kicked out using the truth and openness.

Speaking at the launch of party Manifesto in Lusaka today, Mr. Kalaba said amidst many challenges facing Zambians, UPND and government leaders continue to operate as if everything is normal in the country.

He said Zambians have been subjected to prolonged power outages in some instances going for as long as 48 hours.

“As CF our position is clear. If you want to know what a failed state and a failed presidency looks like, find a country where they have over 8 hours power outage and their leaders continue to operate as if everything is normal. That is how you tell a failed state and a lost presidency. By our yardstick as CF, the UPND government is a failed government that came to office through lies and will be kicked out using the truth and openness, ” Mr. Kalaba said.

And Mr. Kalaba the former Foreign Affairs Minister encouraged Zambians to hold one another’s hand and come together from all the corners of Zambia and unite in the mission to transform and reset the country for greatness.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kalaba said the launched party Manifesto will be contributing towards building a unified, loving, peaceful and developed Zambia that Citizens will be proud to call home.

“The Citizens First envisions a Zambia where everyone has the opportunity to not just survive but also thrive, grow and have competences that are globally competitive in their own right. The CF intends to draw a line between development and politics while embarking on principles of political economy, ” He said

“The CF Manifesto has prioritised national healing and bridging the divide. We expect to work with the church, civic leaders tradition leaders and everyone of you including the fourth estate to heal our mother Zambia,” the CF leader said.

ADDRESS ISSUES AFFECTING THE COUNTRY TOMORROW

…don’t just read what will be written for you, Brenda Nyirenda tell HH.

Lusaka – Thursday, 12 September, 2024 (Smart Eagles)

Lundazi Member of Parliament Brenda Nyirenda has advised President Hakainde Hichilema to address issues that are “really” affecting the nation as he comes to deliver the state of the nation address tomorrow.

Hon Nyirenda said the President should not just read what is written for him.

She highlighted a number of issues that she feels are going wrong in the country, among which is the selective issuance of NRCs.

“The only way you can win an election is by ensuring that every Zambian is benefiting from every policy that is pronounced on the floor of the house. I expect the President, as he comes to address us… to deal with this issue of selective issuing of NRCs,” she said.

“Because there is mobile issuance of NRCs in all these other ruling party constituencies and yet me, I am coming from Lundazi, the officers have even shifted, taken 60 days, paid allowances, and yet you are leaving someone who is 30 kilometers from you and you go and give someone who is 1,000 kilometers from you an NRC.”

She added that an NRC is a right for everyone.

Hon Nyirenda said she expects the President to come and deal with this matter saying that at the end of the day, Zambians are alert, they know what is happening.

“They can tell that what is happening is that they don’t want to issue us with NRCs because the people voted for the opposition. So, this one, has to be dealt with.”

Issues to do with agriculture is also among the pressing matters she raised.

The MP said delayed delivery of farm inputs births corruption.

“The issue of agriculture input. I have just come from Lundazi today. If you haven’t delivered farming inputs this time, is going to be a miracle if again we do not have enough stocks of food? How are they going to take the fertilizer if this time as we are talking they haven’t delivered? There is this FISP and CASP. Even the beneficiaries, they do not even know, people haven’t started depositing K400 distribution, the contribution which they make for them to obtain fertilizer. So, the farmer right now is confused,” she said.

“In any case, the delay of delivering inputs just brings up the issue of corruption because at the end of the day, cadres are going to be the ones who are going to be lining up for our people. if the President comes to address (us)… let him not come with a script that is written for him. Let him come and address the issues which are really affecting the nation today.”
