UPND Livingstone councillors warn Lusambo over his attacks on HH

By Edwin Mbulo in Livingstone

LIVINGSTONE UPND councillors have resolved to take on former Lusaka Province minister Bowman Lusambo personally if he continues attacking President Hakainde Hichilema and his family.

Lusambo in last Thursday’s lead story of The Mast said President Hichilema’s days in office were numbered.

He charged that the Anti-Corruption Commission was “wasting my time” adding that soon “they will start getting my underwear and start saying proceeds of crime”.

Commenting on the arrest of his wife Nancy on Monday by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Lusambo said it would soon be President Hichilema’s turn to answer to possible charges when he is out of office.

Nancy was arrested on charges of concealing properties believed to be proceeds of crime.

“I want to tell Hakainde Hichilema that the privatisation issue is not dead. Whether he died today, as we come into government, we are going to investigate. We are going to investigate the children, the wife and whoever will be in custody of their property because he has never given a convincing answer to the people of Zambia,” Lusambo charged.

“Now, I want to address him. I am a politician. I was born a politician. All my life I have been a politician. I have also worked before in this country. I worked for Carnival Furnishers, in Cash Crusaders. I worked for GTV. I owned my own small businesses in this country. It is very unfortunate that Mr Hakainde Hichilema thinks I just dropped from heaven, no! In my tour of duty, definitely, I have been having something. I have been investing. I want to assure him that his days are numbered.”

But Zambezi Ward councillor Robert Wandila, who is the ruling party’s chief whip in the local authority that has 19 UPND and one independent councillor, said Lusambo’s attacks on President Hichilema and his family could not go unanswered.

“We feel that Lusambo is becoming personal by saying that investigations that are going on are being brought about by the President. We feel such investigations are being done by law enforcement agencies in this case the ACC and if at all Lusambo has any reason that he feels these are just innuendos, that is why the courts of law are there and not attacking the President and his family,” he said.

“We say so because we feel the President has every right to be defended by well meaning Zambians…we want as Livingstone councillors to register our displeasure and advise Lusambo to desist or stop attacking the President in person. If this goes on, we as councillors will be forced to take him on personally. This is becoming unacceptable, and it can’t go on like that, where our parent is being attacked by an individual and it goes on without any reaction at all! We advise Lusambo to stop this forthwith,” Wandila said.

He noted that President Hichilema had on several occasions said that he had no reason of going against any Zambian.

All members of the AFCON title winning squad were paid their allowances- Lusekelo Kamwambi

KAMWAMBI PUTS AFCON ALLOWANCES CLAIMS TO BED.

By Robinson Kunda- Sports Reporter.

Lusaka

February 20, 2022.

CHIPOLOPOLO 2012 Africa Cup winning Team Manager,Lusekelo Kamwambi says all members of the continental title winning squad were paid their allowances and other entitlements inclusive of daily allowances in full and got a share from the $1.5 million prize money.

Kamwambi said the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and government met all its obligations that were due to the players and anyone claiming to be owed money in form of allowances just needs time to remember.

“I was a team manager and I remember the Africa Cup prize money was $1.5 million and each player got $10, 000 which translated into about K50, 000 going by the exchange of K5 at the time,” he said.
He said the $10, 000 for each player was a share from the Africa Cup prize money.

Kamwambi said government and FAZ had drawn up the rewarding system for each stage that the team reached and all allowances were met in full.

“For qualifying out of the first round we had a package, there was also a package for quarter and semi-finals including for winning the tournament he said,”

Kamwambi admitted that what government gave the players was not good enough comparing to how other countries reward national teams when they win the Africa Cup.

“I also remember that part of the money was given to the clubs, each football club in the country received a minimum of $1,000 and we had over 200 clubs,” Kamwambi emphasised.

“Having said that I think the bigger picture was to win the title because as a result of that many players who were playing abroad had their contracts improved by virtue of winning the title,”

He said most players moved to bigger and better clubs where they earned much more money compared to what they were getting prior to winning the Africa Cup.

He cited Mayuka, Chamanga and Katongo as some of the players whose contracts were improved after they won the Africa Cup.

He said even Zambia became more respected in the world and the country was able to play respected teams in the world such as Brazil, Japan, Norway and South Korea among others.

“It is therefore, very unfortunate that today some players can pick to forget all the great things winning Afcon brought to the country and did to improve their careers and decide to mislead the nation 10 years later,” he said.

Kamwambi said money was not the main motivation for winning the Africa Cup but to make the country proud and achieve new milestones for the players.

“I thought I should clarify this because I have been seeing misleading information whoever is claiming to be owed money is not being honest,” he said “But I think even the former Minister of Youth and Sport Chishimba Kambwili did explain very well in Parliament how the Africa Cup prize money wasxz, k cn . shared,”

He said Christopher Katongo who was the captain did appeal to the late president Sata at a luncheon hosted at State House to consider giving the players a house each and the President asked the the then Minister Housing Nkandu Luo to look into it.

“Yes houses have not come but all allowances that were spelt out were given to all of us as team manager I can confirm that,” he said.

On the day to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of winning the country’s sole continental title some players who were members of the Africa Cup winning team have come out claiming they were not paid part of the prize money.

Former FAZ vice president Boniface Mwamelo who wast delegation leader, also insisted that players were given all their entitlements and also got part of the prize money.

Mwamelo said FAZ also explained at the annual general meetings for 2013 and 2014 how the money was disbursed and wondered why players are raising the issue now after 10 years

Policewoman Shoots And Kills The Father Of Her Child As Well As Her Child

The Zambian Spirit has spread to South Africa.

POLICEWOMAN SHOOTS AND KILLS THE FATHER OF HER CHILD AS WELL AS HER CHILD💔

A 28 year female police Constable reportedly shot the father of her child as well as her five months old baby girl before taking her own life.

The horrible incident, which has been strongly condemned by management of the police in the province, occurred in the evening of Saturday 13 February 2021 at Embalenhle.

Reports on this unfortunate event reveals that the said member, who was off duty at the time, allegedly used her service firearm to shoot the 33 year old man as well as her little daughter before turning the gun on herself.
The police as well as the medical personnel were notified about the incident and upon arrival the woman was certified dead at the scene.

Meanwhile her daughter as well as the man were taken to a nearby clinic where the man unfortunately passed on upon arrival.
The little girl though was transferred to hospital after being stabilized but she too later succumbed to her injuries.
Police also recovered a firearm next to the woman’s body.

Police have since opened a case with two counts of murder and an inquest.
Preliminary probe suggests that the unfortunate drama may have been fuelled by acts of domestic violence as the two are reported to have been going through a rough patch where the little girl’s mom even moved out from the man’s house.
It is said that on the day, the man brought a female friend as a visitor at his place of residence where both are said to have left for a little while after leaving her bags.

The two reportedly returned to pick up some items not being aware that the mother of his daughter and his baby girl came to the house also.

The man is said to have remained in the car whilst his visitor went inside only to find the woman armed with a firearm. She was then held at gunpoint and ordered to take a seat by this woman (member).
The man became concerned when his visitor did not return.
After a while, he then went in and realized that the mother of his daughter was furious and was waiting for him outside, next to the backroom, firearm in her hand.

A scuffle then broke out resulting in the fatal shooting. It is further reported that the other woman (who came with the man) managed to escape unharmed. She then reported the incident to the authorities.

ICHILOTO UKUWAMA.

By Chanda John Chimba.

I have just woken up from my deep sleep, I had a very nice dream today, when I say nice I mean it, it was nice, beautiful, awesome or any other nice word you would want to attach to it.

In the dream, President Hichilema and former President Lungu held a surprise Press Briefing at state house, this briefing caught everyone by surprise as it was not announced to anyone or anywhere.

The two( HH & ECL) spoke one language at the briefing which I like many others watched on tv, the two reconciled, hugged each other and promised the people of zambia that they will work together( hand in hand ) to ensure that zambia is a better place.

The former President ECL pledged total support to the incumbent President HH, President HH also said he will work closely with President ECL so that zambia is united and developed.

The briefing brought zambia to a stand still, the two ended the briefing with laughter and a huge which symbolized a new fresh start.

The streets of Lusaka were full of jubilation, huge crowds clad in PF regalia and UPND regalia were for the first time seen together , laughing, singing and enjoying the new journey of their leaders. It was all smiles and merry.

As the dream was about to continue and more good things were about to unfold, I heard someone pull my leg and said, wake up, ba funa ku pyanga Pa Aunty, it was my young brother waking me up saying ba Aunty ( our house help) wants to sweep, I was so upset that I was woken up from the nice dream, I wanted to see the end. You know this issue of sleeping Pa sitting room in the house. 😤😤😤😤.

But wait , do dreams come true ?

Anyway, this was a good dream. I think it has brightened my day. I feel good.

Some Luvale Forenames And Their Meanings

0

SOME LUVALE FORENAMES AND THEIR MEANINGS.

The Luvale are one of the ethnic groupings in Zambia. They are closely related to the Luchazi, Mbunda and Chokwe peoples. The Luvale people are traditionally located in the Upper Zambezi area which is the North Western Province of Zambia and the South-Eastern area of Angola.

In Luvale culture, personal names were not chosen at random; they were usually given to children according the different circumstances and events that surrounded the birth of the child, these include; manner of the birth, happiness, fertility, bad occurrences, order of birth and so on. In some instances forenames were given to infants in memory of a dead family member such as a sibling, parent or grandparent. Sometimes the characteristics that parents observed from the child at birth also played a role in determining the name.

Some of the common Luvale names are as follows:

ZANGI: This name means “Love”. Naming a child “Zangi” was a way of expressing the importance of love.

WANA: This name means “Gift”. It was given as a way for parents to express gratitude for being gifted a child.

JILA: This name means “on the way”. This name was given to a child who was born while the mother was in transit or on her way to somewhere.

So for example if a mother gave birth to a child who died and soon after conceived again and gave birth to a child, the newly born child would be named “Kahilu”. It was believed that such a child was a replacement for the one who died.

KASULASONGO: This name means “the very last on the line”. This name was given to the child who the parents anticipated would be their last born. It was a way of indicating that this was the last child in their line of children.

CHIJIKA: This is the name given to a child who is born after twins.

KASOKA. This name means “house roofing expert”. This name was derived from the skill of thatching huts or building roofs for houses. Giving a child this name was a way of paying tribute to the forefathers of the child who were skilled in making roofs.

CHIPOYA: This name means “stretcher”. This name was given to express the character of someone who goes to great lengths to try and help other people.

CHIYAMBI: This name means “hunter/fisherman”. In some cases names were given based on an activity which someone’s ancestors were good at. In this case someone would be named “Chiyambi” in reference to the fact that they had an ancestor who was good at hunting/fishing.

CHITENGI: This names means “builder”. This named was derived from the skill of building things. A child would be given this name as a way of alluding to the fact that their forefathers were skilled builders.

SACHIWE: This name means “someone who gives a lot”

MUSOLE: The name is derived from a fruit bearing tree called “Musole”.

KAKOMA: This is a royal name which means to “sit on your own problems”. Traditionally, it was given to royalty (chiefs) because they are the ones who solve other people’s problems but don’t solve their own because they are the highest authority and no one can preside over them.

KAYOMBO: This name refers to being brave and strong. It is a name that expresses characteristics of a warrior.

CHILOMBELA: This name means “one who prays”

These are just a small selection of some Luvale forenames. Feel free to comment in the comment’s section below on the other Luvale forenames you know and their meanings.

I was intrigued by the gift given by President HH to the Pope – Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

The Horn and Balls Gift

Congratulations to President Hakainde Hichilema for a successful tour to Brussels for the African Union and European Union Summit held Brussels, Belgium and for an official visit to the Vatican to meet the Pope.

I was intrigued by the gift given by President Hichilema to the Pope during his official visit to the Vatican on Saturday 19th February 2021.

The gift was two sculpted horns placed on a pedestal decorated with balls and sticks.

I was intrigued by the sculpture of horns as horns have a powerful symbolism both in the Bible and to the Occult.

The Ten Commandments forbade the veneration of graven images. But some limited emblems were used.

Horns are emblems of power, dominion, glory, and fierceness, as they are the chief means of attack and defence with the animals endowed with them.

274203666_534102061405859_2283301429789016684_n

The occult has always used the horn as a powerful inspiration in painting and sculpture.

In the Bible, the expression “horn of salvation,” applied to Christ, means a salvation of strength, or a strong Saviour ( Luke 1:69 ).

To have the horn “exalted” denotes prosperity and triumph ( Psalms 89:17 Psalms 89:24 ). To “lift up” the horn is to act proudly ( Zechariah 1:21 ).

Trumpets were at first horns perforated at the tip, used for various purposes.

It will be interesting to understand what motivated the artist, the buyer, and the decision to pick it as a gift to the Pope.

Couldn’t a choice of an artwork image that symbolize Zambia, its culture and traditions, be an appropriate gift?

Couldn’t a copper gift bearing the map of Zambia and its tourism attraction have been an ideal gift?

Did we have to pick an artwork with unknown meaning as a sovereign gift?

Interesting.

Russian troops ‘poised to strike’ Ukraine- US defence chief

0

Russian troops on Ukraine’s border are “uncoiling” and “poised to strike”, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said on Saturday during a visit to Lithuania.

“They are uncoiling and are now poised to strike,” he said, adding that troops were “moving into the right kinds of positions to be able to conduct an attack”.

But he said conflict was “not inevitable”, adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin “can choose a different path”.

“The US, in lockstep with our allies and partners, have offered him an opportunity to pursue a diplomatic solution. We hope that he takes it. We hope that he steps back from the brink of conflict.”

Austin said he agreed with US President Joe Biden that Putin had “made the decision” to invade.

“There are significant combat forces forward, those forces are now beginning to uncoil and move closer to the border, that facilitates their onward movement,” he said.

“Having done this before, I can tell you that is exactly what you need to attack and the stance that you need to be in to attack,” said Austin, who served as US commander in Iraq.

Austin also assured the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania that the US “stands with our allies” and its commitment to NATO’s collective defence was “iron-clad”.

The current security tensions in the region have rattled the formerly Soviet-ruled Baltic states, which all have borders with Russia.

Alongside Austin, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said the Russian troop build-up around Ukraine was “a direct military threat to Ukraine but it also poses a threat to the entire region”.

“The battle for Ukraine is a battle for Europe. If he is not stopped there, he will go further,” Landsbergis said, referring to Putin.

The Baltics have asked NATO allies to send reinforcements to their countries on top of the existing alliance battle groups deployed there after Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Britain and Germany have pledged extra troops for the region, while the US has sent 4,700 reinforcements to neighbouring Poland, which also shares a border with Belarus and Russia.

The United States and Ukraine say there are now around 150,000 Russian troops massed on Ukraine’s borders in Russia and Belarus. AFP

Ethiopia to start generating power from The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD)

0

Ethiopia will start generating power from its controversial mega-dam on the Blue Nile on Sunday, government officials told AFP.

The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), set to be the largest hydroelectric project in Africa, has been at the centre of a regional dispute ever since Ethiopia broke ground in 2011.

“Tomorrow will be the first energy generation of the dam,” an Ethiopian government official said on Saturday.

A second official confirmed the information. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because the milestone has not been officially announced.

Ethiopia’s downstream neighbours Egypt and Sudan view the dam as a threat because of their dependence on Nile waters, while Addis Ababa deems it essential for its electrification and development.

The $4.2-billion (3.7 billion euro) project is ultimately expected to produce more than 5,000 megawatts of electricity, more than doubling Ethiopia’s electricity output.

Ethiopia had initially planned output of around 6,500 megawatts but later reduced its target.

“The newly generated electricity from the GERD could help revive an economy that has been devastated by the combined forces of a deadly war, rising fuel prices and the pandemic,” said Addisu Lashitew of the Brookings Institution in Washington.

The dam lies on Blue Nile River in the Benishangul-Gumuz region in western Ethiopia, not far from the border with Sudan.

No breakthrough in talks
Talks held under the auspices of the African Union (AU) have failed to yield a three-way agreement on the dam’s filling and operations, and Cairo and Khartoum have demanded Addis Ababa cease filling the massive reservoir until such a deal is reached.

But Ethiopian officials have argued that filling is a natural part of the dam’s construction process and cannot be stopped.

The UN Security Council met last July to discuss the project, although Ethiopia later slammed the session as an “unhelpful” distraction from the AU-led process.

In September the Security Council adopted a statement encouraging Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan to resume negotiations under AU auspices.

Egypt claims a historic right to the Nile dating from a 1929 treaty that gave it veto power over construction projects along the river.

A 1959 treaty boosted Egypt’s allocation to around 66 percent of the river’s flow, with 22 percent for Sudan.

Yet Ethiopia was not party to those treaties and does not see them as valid.

The process of filling the GERD’s vast reservoir began in 2020, with Ethiopia announcing in July of that year it had hit its target of 4.9 billion cubic metres.

The reservoir’s total capacity is 74 billion cubic metres, and the target for 2021 was to add 13.5 million.

Last July Ethiopia said it had hit that target, meaning there was enough water to begin producing energy, although some experts had cast doubt on the claims.

Ghana’s four AFCON trophies reportedly missing

0

The Black Stars emerged as African champions in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982, but have not won any major silverware in the last 40 years.

Under CAF rules, teams that win the AFCON are given a replica of the trophy on a permanent basis and are allowed to keep the original trophy for the two years in-between tournaments before handing it back.

Teams are, however, allowed to keep the original trophy permanently when they win it thrice, an achievement that only Ghana, Cameroon and Egypt have so far attained.

Speaking about Ghana’s poor record of keeping relics, Angel FM sports journalist Saddick Adams said the replica AFCON trophies given to Ghana by CAF cannot be traced.

According to Saddick Adams, who is the reigning Sports Writers Association of Ghana’s (SWAG) sports journalist of the year, he tried tracking the trophies before the 2019 AFCON and was told they were missing.

“You know that CAF gives you a replica when you win the trophy but then, you get the golden one when you win it for keeps [three times],” he said on his programme.

“Before the 2019 AFCON, I asked questions about the four trophies that we have won and I was told that we lost the trophies during the Coup when the National Sports Council Office was ransacked.”

Meanwhile, three years ago, the Ministry of Youth and Sports announced that it had found the AFCON trophy that Ghana won for keeps in 1978.

In a statement, the Ministry said: “The Cup known as the ‘Abdelaziz Abdallah Salem Trophy will be among the many trophies that are scheduled to be exhibited at the Nat. Sports Museum when it’s established as part of the 2023 African Games in Ghana.”

In 2020, Egypt’s original AFCON trophy, which they secured for keeps after winning the AFCON three times in 2006, 2008 and 2010, also disappeared from the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) in Cairo.

Russia launches massive drills of its nuclear forces

0

Russia said it launched a massive drill of its strategic nuclear forces on Saturday, amid tensions with Ukraine. It comes as a stark reminder of the country’s nuclear might amid Western fears that Moscow might be preparing to invade Ukraine. The exercises involve multiple practice launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles and cruise missiles, the Russian Defense Ministry said. Footage distributed by the Defense Ministry shows cruise missiles, hypersonic cruise missiles and thermonuclear armed intercontinental ballistic missile RS 24 being launched. The Russian Defense Ministry said it planned the maneuvers some time ago to check the readiness of Russia’s military command and personnel, as well as the reliability of its nuclear and conventional weapons.

The Russian Defense Ministry said Thursday’s maneuvers featured launches of ballistic missiles by the navy’s nuclear submarines from the Barents Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk.

As part of the drills, long-range bombers also fired cruise missiles, the ministry said, adding that all missiles hit their designated practice targets

It added that Russia’s early warning system successfully spotted and tracked all launches.

The Defense Ministry noted that the exercise offered a chance to test the chain of command from its main control room down to military units.

The drills are the latest in a series of Russian war games conducted amid rising tensions with the West.

Russia’s Strategic Missile Troops have kicked off large-scale military drills in Southern Siberia, nearly a month after test-firing a long-range intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that renewed a missile dispute with the US.

On his first visit to the Vatican, President Hichilema speaks of upgrading the country’s education and uniting Zambians

On his first visit to the Vatican, President Hichilema speaks of upgrading the country’s education and uniting Zambians.

On Saturday, Zambian President Mr Hakainde Hichilema visited Pope Francis at the Vatican. On Saturday, Zambian President Mr Hakainde Hichilema visited Pope Francis at the Vatican.

Paul Samasumo – Vatican City. (Vatican Media) 19.02.2022

Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema said he was pleasantly surprised to find that Pope Francis has a profound understanding of development issues in Africa and Zambia, in particular.

Zambian President Mr Hakainde Hichilema was received by Pope Francis at the Vatican on Saturday morning. Following the audience with the Holy Father, President Hichilema met with the Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and Monsignor Mirosław Wachowski, the Undersecretary for Relations with States.

Gratitude to the Holy See

“I am glad to be here, and I am grateful to the Vatican and the establishment for giving us this opportunity to meet the Pope early in our presidency -we are still less than six months into office. We are really grateful,” said Mr Hichilema. He ascended to office in an August 2021 landslide vote that catapulted his UPND political party into government for the first time ever.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Vatican News on the sidelines of his visit to the Vatican, Mr Hichilema, a devout Adventist, spoke highly of his encounter with Pope Francis. He said he informed the Holy Father that his government respects the freedom of worship for all Churches and prioritises unity among Zambia.

“We as a government will embrace all religious organisations in our country. They all have space, and they all have the right to basically promote their evangelical work,” said the Zambia President.

I am a beneficiary of free education

Mr Hichilema said he was impressed that Pope Francis is aware and well informed about the development policies that his government has embarked upon. He praised Pope Francis for his progressive views on development in Africa.

“The Pope is aware of our educational policies of offering education to all, including those that are disadvantaged. I told the Pope that I am a beneficiary of free education. Born in a village and education made the difference,” Mr Hichilema explained.

Education will be fundamental to changing Zambian society, he said. While encouraging private education for those who can afford it, the Zambian President is keen that his country should also care for disadvantaged school children.

Education for all is priority

For now, the UPND government that Mr Hichilema leads has abolished all school fees from primary to secondary school. The overall aim, in future, is to also provide free tertiary education at college and university level.

Asked why the strong emphasis, Mr Hichilema replied: “A society without education skills -how can you develop it? How can you produce food more efficiently without agricultural knowledge?”

An inclusive cabinet sends a message of unity

Regarding unity in Zambia, Hichilema told Vatican News that his government values and is pushing unity in diversity among all Zambians because it is the decent thing to do. The government, he said, must be a reflection of that diversity. For this reason, he continued, his government is composed of ministers from all ten provinces of Zambia.

Zambia has 72 tribes and many more dialects -the result of a complex history in patterns of Bantu migrations.

Hichilema further pledged to distribute the country’s resources equally among the country’s regions.

“We want to unite the people of Zambia through equity, fair treatment of all regions. It is through this platform that we want to continue binding and bonding ourselves as one Zambia, one nation and one people,” he reiterated.

Corruption takes away resources from the poor
Hakainde Hichilema, a Zambian businessman, farmer and politician, says he has hit the ground running. His concluding remarks were on corruption across the world but particularly in Zambia.

“Corruption is something we must abhor.

Corruption takes away resources from those who need them the most: Young people, the sick, the aged. We must restore integrity in our country. We must know that public office is not for self-aggrandisement. It is for service to the people,” said Zambia’s sixth president since the country gained independence from Britain in 1964.

Proposed Amendments On Abortions And Bigamy, A Danger To The Youth And Country- Bishop Joshua Banda

PROPOSED AMENDMENTS ON ABORTIONS AND BIGAMY, A DANGER
TO THE YOUTH AND COUNTRY-BISHOP JOSHUA BANDA

Lusaka-Sunday, 20th February 2022

The Council of Bishops of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God has expressed concerns at the proposed amendments related to marriages and procurement of abortions.

Presiding Bishop, Joshua Banda advised Zambians to reject the proposals as they were a danger to the well being of young people.

He also said the quality of relationships in marriages had fallen citing recent statistics stating that marriages were threatened by infidelity and adultery, and allowing men to procure more women as wives was not the solution.

He urged Parliamentarians to reject such proposals and they should use their roles to help build the nation.

He said the Church will continue to contribute to making Zambia a Christian Nation and a people that live by Christian principles.

Below is the statement.

ISSUED SATURDAY, 19TH FEBRUARY, 2022 FOR DISSEMINATION ON SUNDAY 20TH FEBRUARY, 2022

PASTORAL GUIDANCE TO ALL PAOGZ CONGREGATIONS ON THE ZAMBIA LAW DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION PROPOSAL TO REPEAL LAWS THAT PROHIBIT ABORTION ON DEMAND AND BIGAMY

Preamble
The Council of Bishops of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God Zambia hereby issues the following guidance to all our over 2000 congregations countrywide as a way of providing broad talking points that our Pastors and congregants may feel free to use in engaging their representatives who return to Parliament this week, to discuss among other things, the constitutional amendments proposed by the Zambia Law Development Commission.

Context and Position
The Zambia Law Development Commission proposes to repeal current laws (Section 166 of the Penal Code) that prohibit bigamy and that regulate access to abortion for pregnant women.

The position of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God Zambia (PAOGZ) is that the proposed repeals are unwarranted and should not be supported by the citizenry.

The laws that are in place have enabled the preservation of sanity and moral clarity at all levels of Zambian society.

No protests have ever been mounted against the current prohibitions of polygamy or abortion on demand, because it is widely appreciated that the laws in question have aided successive governments and communities to maintain social order.

There is a broad understanding among all age groups that marriage is most beneficial when it is between one man and one woman.

There is no material disadvantage that has been suffered by any segment of Zambia’s population because of such laws.

Additionally, existing laws are flexible and have permitted customary marriages of polygamous nature, though that form of marriage is not as popular in Zambia as is monogamous marriage.

There also is a common understanding that life is sacrosanct and abortion by choice cannot be accepted.

It is sufficient that existing laws permit abortion under strict controls, such as when the life of both mother and the unborn baby are threatened by a well verified medical condition.

The Zambia Law Development Commission has the standing and leverage to bring to the public eye more critical legal instruments which can help the legislators deal with lacunas in the Constitution.

It is misdirected for the Commission to be more interested in pressing for legislative changes that would serve to open more doors for sexual immorality to thrive in Zambian society.

The proposed changes to the law are a danger to the youth
The PAOGZ warns that such legislative gymnastics can only endanger the youth population which needs sound moral formation, with the help of wholesome laws, as they grow towards adulthood.

UNFPA in their publication, Young People and the Road to 2030, stated in August 2018: “In Zambia, today’s record 4.8 million young people aged 15-35 [36.7 per cent of Zambia’s population] – the largest population of young people in its history – present an enormous opportunity to transform our future.”

We cannot, as a Republic, throw this critical human resource into the precipice of social and spiritual darkness, and turn them into an aimless generation without a sound sense of moral judgment.

The proposed changes to the law only increase dimensions of marital problems
Wholesale permission for polygamous marriage will merely aggravate existent problems afflicting marriages.

Large numbers of monogamous marriages are dysfunctional; how then can increased numbers of polygamous marriages enhance the quality of marital relationships?

In 2021, more than 20,000 marriages were dissolved countrywide with Lusaka, Eastern and Western provinces each recording the highest cases of over 4,000 divorces. A total of 25,851 divorces were entered in registries countrywide in 2020.

Infidelity, adultery, gender-based violence, and poor communication among spouses were cited as being among the major reasons why the affected couples sought divorce.

The average age of those seeking divorce was been 25 and 45 years old.

Zambia needs to tackle such problems meaningfully and with clarity, which cannot be realized with added stress which pro-polygamy laws will bring about.

In the meantime, PAOGZ continues close collaboration with brethren in the Body of Christ as well as other stake holders for the greater good of our nation’s future.

In the Lord’s Service, for stronger families in our nation.

WHEN A MASTER IS SO CONFIDENT IN HIS SERVANT.(THE GREATNESS IN THE PICTURE)

WHEN A MASTER IS SO CONFIDENT IN HIS SERVANT.(THE GREATNESS IN THE PICTURE).

By Hon. Binwell Chansa Mpundu

Forgive me for using the master/servant analogy am simply trying to explain the greatness I see in this picture.

So I have insomnia and am grossing over the events of social media and this picture caught my attention.

Pay attention to the posture of the Pope to General Bulawayo and now focus on President HH’s posture.

The posture of President HH depicts a master who is so confident in his man, he listens attentively but with a sweet smile announcing that whatever the servant is doing is correct. If it was otherwise the master would have been looking at the servant pampamatically as we used to say in secondary school almost telling him using his eyes that if u mess up you will remain right here in Vatican. But see how relaxed the president is, that tells you the man he has delegated to explain an issue will do the job perfectly well.

Now let me talk about General Bulawayo.Among all the people I have seen serve presidents in Zambia I can testify with my life that this man right here is a states man who I can guess dreams about his job everyday and his love for service and his dedication to duty is second to none.

I know very little about this man but I have always looked at him every other time his does his job with a smile of love and affection for his commitment to duty.
This man from the way he goes about his job, is a no nonsense man and when it comes to protocal you can never replace that man. The man has no chibeleshi you won’t find him entertaining people esp mixing with people that are not part of his protocal team noooooo he has no time for that, in his mind he is always calculating the next moves and for the many things that president HH is right about is the decision to keep that man in that job infact that man deserves a medal for his distinguished service to the presidency.

My advise for anyone who is serving in a government position, please do your job with perfection not to please an individual but as an act of loyalty to your country and only then will you serve till your tire.

I take my hut off to General Bulawayo. Sir I don’t know you and I have very little info on you but I must sate here that you are an asset to this nation and may God continue to bless and guide you and give u wisdom and good health. Please continue Serving that man right but above all continue serving your country with distinction and one day the country will honour you. Am full of admiration for your dedication to duty and when I grow up I want to serve my people and my country with distinction the way I see you do it.

God bless all the good people who are doing right.

JOSEPH SIMBEYE IS DEAD

0

FAREWELL BA JOSEPH SIMBEYE.

By Cletus Mwinga

In the middle of Kanyama, Joseph Simbeye manufactured the most reliable vaults, safes and cash boxes which safeguarded most banking services in Zambia.

He also constructed strong rooms onsite most Financial Institutions.
Disguised as a Bar,Restaurant and Lodge, Joseph Simbeye run the most sophisticated Bank Safety Manufacturing Company in Zambia in the middle of Kanyama Compound and I used his Lodge to accommodate the Artisanal Miners that visited Lusaka.
Joseph Simbeye was upgrading to manufacturing of ATM’s and together we researched on how that could be done, and also taking into account the vulnerability of the current ATM’s in view of the South African experiences.

That made Joseph Simbeye innovate further and find a way of safeguarding CIT vehicles and he was about to break out into the market with his latest innovations.
Then he got electrocuted yesterday?
Well,Joseph Simbeye was a triple character, when he opened his Lusaka West Kalundu bar, renting the same premises from Charmaine’s family, Joseph Simbeye would discipline drunk patrons with his hippo shambok.
Joseph Simbeye would drive into COMESA to order his stock of beers and other bar related drinks and load his cargo behind an open Isuzu 250KB van,and leave it unattended to in the middle of town,no one – no one – no one – dared to steal from his vehicle, despite the exposed ware behind.

Up to this day,I don’t understand how Joseph Simbeye commanded huge respect in the streets of Lusaka,no cadre messed with Joseph Simbeye, even the dreaded PF cadres respected and feared Joseph Simbeye.

So one morning, I’m picking up my Artisanal miners from his Lodge,I find them looking haggard and confused?
Apparently the Artisanal miners had broken the standard rule when booked at Simbeye’s Lodge,”don’t come in after 21hrs and drink from within his Lodge after 21hrs”,the Artisanal miners in numbers went to sample the night clubs around Kanyama instead reported past midnight and Joseph Simbeye was the Guard on Duty that day and he discharged his pistol on top the heads of the Artisanal miners as they climbed his gate, all recorded on his CCTV.
I reviewed the CCTV footage to understand the impact and trauma around the Artisanal miners.
That’s how I stopped booking Simbeye’s Lodge for the Artisanal miners.

Well I didn’t know his educational background neither did I want to ask him,Joseph Simbeye was the definition of a short fuse,he would flare up any time,I kept my line to my research on reinforcements around ATM’s and CIT Vehicles and he would explain how to achieve that in practical terms with actual demonstrations.
But those huge electrical cables around his Operations were of concern to me.

THE COFFIN ON A BUS.

So we ordered a Safety Box to store Guns and other valuables,it was not ready when I was preparing to leave for one of our formalisation camps, and Joseph Simbeye promised to send the Safety Box the way he understood best.
He padded the safe box like a coffin wrapped with black plastic and put it on a Public Bus, paid for all the back seats to accommodate the same.
I drove from my formalisation camp to pick the safe box,and not even the Bus crew were willing to lift my cargo off the bus,had to hire extra help.

Delivered the safe to one Chief’s Palace and the Chief thought I had come to express a direct confrontation with him over hidden powers and the Chief bolted, abandoning the Palace for me,I called out, asking the Chief to come back, explaining that it was the Safe box for the guns plus other sensitive materials that we were expecting from Lusaka.

The Chief returned from his forced 100m race but to date,he suspects I’m capable of offsetting his power base.
Came back to explain how the Safe scared the Chief,we cried into laughter with Joseph Simbeye and exactly his intentions of packing the safe box like that.
Farewell Joseph Simbeye, a larger than life figure.

WHAT HAPPENS TO HER NEXT? Namwene Is Being Discussed As A Lady Who Took A Poisonous Substance And Gave Some To Her Son

0

WHAT HAPPENS TO HER NEXT? 😭🙏

NAMWENE IS BEING DISCUSSED AS A LADY WHO TOOK A POISONOUS SUBSTANCE AND GAVE SOME TO HER SON.

I do not wish to know the facts but this morning I went to Levy Mwanawasa Hospital. I went to the side ward where Namwene is admitted. I found two armed police officers by the side ward, I asked for permission to go in and see her. Permission was granted. As I entered the side ward, I saw how Namwene is being viewed from various minds.
1. Health workers (Doctors and Nurses) see her as patient.
2. Police officers are guarding her as a criminal
3. Legal associates and partners see her a client
4. God has seen a precious daughter

HEALTH WORKERS

The health workers have worked and succeeded to save the life of Namwene from the unconscious state back to life and have continued with medication. Those men and women are fully committed to duty.

POLICE OFFICERS

I observed that she was handcuffed to the bed and guarded day and night even when she was not conscious. She is being watched to ensure that she is subjected to the demands of the law.

LAWYERS

Lawyers are waiting for her to be admitted to the courts so that they can either represent her or be on the other side.

GOD

I see God looking at her and saying this is my daughter in whom I’m well delighted. I have like i have done to many others given you another chance.

Any day, she will be discharged, how do you look at her?
Are you helping her to have the desired peace amidst this aggressive social media arrows on her?
Are you making her feel loved and adding to her receiving healing both physical and mental health?

I have taken my position in this whole matter. This earth can be a better place to live if we would strive to carry each other’s burden. Stones are always available to throw at our accused. Love and care will make our eyes blind from the stones and extend our hands to embrace them and make them better people.

I greet you all

I Caught My Mom Cheating, I Told My Dad And His Reaction Was Unbelievable

0

I CAUGHT MY MOM CHEATING, I TOLD MY DAD AND HIS REACTION WAS UNBELIEVABLE

I was twenty years when I found out my mom was cheating on my dad. I was a first-year student at the university and had returned home for vacation.

I went to see my mom in her office one day and she left me for a meeting. Just some minutes after she left, I heard a beep sound, apparently coming from her phone.

After a series of beeps, a call came through.

I went to the phone and answered the call.

It was a gentleman seeking to have a word with her. I told him my mom wasn’t around so he hung up. It was then the messages on the phone caught my eyes. I didn’t intend to read but somehow I was drawn to it since it was already opened.

“Would you pass by after work tonight so we spend some time together?”
That was the message that caught my attention. I went back to previous messages to make sure I wasn’t making things up. Everything was out there! They’ve kissed, they’ve traveled on several occasions, they’ve had s** and they’ve been together for about three years. “How could that be?” I questioned myself. “Where has dad been all this while?”

Mom had been a great mom to me. I’m the only child and she never ceased to provide and be there for me but from that day going, I started looking back and assessing the relationship that existed between my mom and dad.
Dad is the reserved type. He rather acts than talk. My mom didn’t like talking a lot too but she was very outgoing and forthcoming. Between them, they didn’t talk a lot. My mom would usually spend the night watching TV and dad would be somewhere around the house minding his own business.

They had been able to live for twenty-two years being like that with each other so I guessed nothing was wrong. They never fought—I never saw them exchanging words so finding out my mom was cheating was a very big blow to me.

I needed someone to talk to.

Talking about it with my dad was out of the question. I feared he would be angry and trigger a divorce. I have a lot of wishes—having my parents divorced wasn’t one of those. Dad caught a hint of my mood and asked what the problem was. I couldn’t say the truth. He thought I was having boy issues and rather tried to convince me to share with him.

Yeah, I was having issues except that the person involved here was his own wife.

A week before school resumes, I gathered courage and had a discussion with mom…

“I know you are seeing someone else apart from dad,” I said. “And I know you’ve been seeing him for over three years. I know also that you’ve been traveling with him and spending time with him after work.”
Surprisingly she wasn’t stunned. She said, “You’ve been reading my text messages. I underestimated you. How long have you been doing that?” I kept repeating, “Mom why are you doing this to dad? You want to break up with him?”
She said nothing at first, she only kept staring at me. She answered, “You know only half of the story. Don’t judge me.” “I’m not judging you. I’m only asking you why.” She still looked calm. No sign of remorse or regrets.
“Are you planning on telling your dad?”

“If you don’t stop, I’ll have no option than to tell him.”

I thought that would put some fear in her but I was lying. She only said, “Let’s see what happens.”

I’ve been in school for about two months. I called my dad one night and asked him to give the phone to my mom to speak to her. He told me, “Your mom hasn’t returned from work and it’s already 10pm.” I got triggered. It was like I was possessed.

I called mom’s phone several times after speaking with dad but she didn’t pick. She called the next morning to tell me she was busy. “Busy with your boyfriend I guess?” I shouted on the phone. She responded, “I’m still your mom, give me some respect, ok?” She hung up.

I was so angry I couldn’t think straight. My dad was a good man and for the best of my knowledge, he was playing his role as a husband impeccably well.
I went home that evening to spill the beans. As usual, mom hadn’t returned from work. Dad was in the dining hall eating rice he himself had cooked. I sat next to him and told him everything; “Mom is cheating on you. I found out from her messages. She comes home late because she goes to see the other man after work.”

He was quiet. He didn’t say a word. “Did you hear what I just said? Mom is chea…”

“I know!” He interrupted. “I’ve always known her ways from day one.”
“You what! You know? And you haven’t done anything about it?”
He stopped eating and turned to me, “I haven’t done anything about it?

I have. The first time I caught her cheating, I had to warn the other man to stay away from her. And he did. Not too long after, she dated a guy who was 15 years younger than her. I used her own phone to send a pleading text to the guy to stay away from my wife. The guy left.

She pleaded for forgiveness and promised not to do it again. But you see, I can’t keep chasing flies off your mom. She can stay away from the flies if she wants to.”

I’ve lived with these two all my life and didn’t realize they were going through such hard times? Where have I been? I was a girl and maybe didn’t think too much of them but since that day, I respected my dad more and resented my mom with all I have.

I stopped picking her calls and refused to see her when she came around looking for me in school. She kept telling me, “You know only half of the story. Don’t judge me.”

So what is the other half of the story?

Dad insisted there was no other half story and if there was any, he wasn’t aware of it. Mom wouldn’t tell me what the other side of the story was. She claimed, “You are a child. Our daughter. You can’t know all of our struggles, especially the intimate ones. Leave us to fight our own issues.”

They never divorced and no one ever heard them fighting about this issue.
I grew up and took less interest in the way they lived their lives. After all, they were both ok so who was I to get angry on their behalf?

Dad died recently. He still wore his wedding ring with pride regardless of all the struggles. In my mom’s tribute to him, she called my dad a warrior. I knew what that meant. It takes only a warrior to live with a woman like her until the end.

But I wasn’t done until I got the “other half” of the story.
Mom said…

“When you were about four years old, your dad became impotent as a result of a sickness he was battling with. You were four and I was hitting twenty-five. That was the reason we had only you. For the rest of my life, I had to endure a sexless life with your dad.

I tried. God knows I did my best. You father became impotent and also resigned from any affair with me. He didn’t even sleep next to me or even held me during the cold hours of the day.

A gentleman found me beautiful at a point I thought I was decaying. He was all over me so I gave up resistance and had an affair with him. Your dad got a hint and drove him away. Another came my way. He was a boy but had the mind of a man. I had him and when I thought everything was going on fine, your dad happened.

He drove that one too away. He drove them away and yet starved me of his presence and connection. Your dad was a good father and a friend but he wasn’t a good husband. I wasted my youth with him and that came at a price.”

That is the other half of the story. Dad is gone and can’t defend himself but mom had no reason to lie. I concluded that mom was a bad bitch but she too had her reason. Who am I to judge?

Zim Police okay CCC by-election rally- but bizarrely ban slogans and singing

0

Police in Zimbabwe have given the greenlight to the launch of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) by-election campaign at the Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfields on Sunday but bizarrely banned chanting of slogans and singing.

It also banned the busing in of supporters. Chamisa is expected to preside over the launch of a by-election campaign.

“Your political members shall not intimidate passers-by and those who have nothing to do with your launch. You shall not block the thoroughfares and roads around the venue of your launch,” the police order read.

“Busing in of people from other constituencies is strictly prohibited. Your members shall not be involved in toyi-toying, convoying of vehicles of people chanting slogans and singing and disseminating hateful and defaming information.

“Your marshals shall be dressed in a uniform that will make it easier to be identified by the police and a list of the marshals shall be presented to the officer who will be responsible for police security at your meeting.

“Carrying of dangerous weapons at your gathering shall be strictly prohibited.”

CCC national spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere questioned the police order, especially the part where it bans slogans and singing.

“Section 67 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe gives citizens the right to support any political cause, individually or in groups. Why ban slogans at a rally? Why ban singing? Why ban transport?

“ZEC this is what we mean when we say the playing field is not free or fair!” Mahere fumed.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa launched a by-election campaign for his Zanu PF party last weekend in Epworth. There was singing and supporters were bused in from different constituencies. The ruling party actually invited Zim-Dancehall singers among them DJ Fantan to grace the occasion.

Zimbabwe Grounds, the site that the CCC has chosen, is a monumental and unforgettable place where prominent people like the late former main opposition MDC founder Morgan Tsvangirai was heavily assaulted by State security before being arrested together with prominent lawyer and activist Lovemore Madhuku.

The heavyweight, monster campaign was titled “Save Zimbabwe campaign 2007”.

It happened during the peak of late former President Robert Mugabe’s dictatorial rule that saw many opposition officials either killed or injured during a presidential election held that year.

The election outcome became so violent, with controversial results that forced a re-run and a subsequent four year period of a government of national unity. Nehanda Radio

HOW BEST TO OVERCOME DEPRESSION

HOW BEST TO OVERCOME DEPRESSION

By Mwala Mooto

It’s saddening to see a number of young people giving up on life by commiting suicide. Friends life is full of ups and downs but suicide is never a solution. In July 2018 I quit my job to pursue my dream of starting a business. I had high hopes such that despite many people discouraging me I went ahead to resign and I was determined to prove them wrong.

I moved to the farm in my incomplete house with a K30,000 gratuity to start keeping broilers. within 2 months the business collapsed and I had a bank loan to service. That was the beginning of trouble for me, the bank was on my neck, I accumulated debt from microfinance institutions, money lenders and shylocks, I could clearly see my life going down hill. From having a successful career in a reputable organization I was reduced to nothing; no car, no food, finished clothes and a mountain of debt.

I couldn’t open up to anyone coz I feared they would redicule me and go out there to share the story of how the flamboyant young Finance Manager has fallen in pursuit of entrepreneurship. I became withdrawn, sleeping the whole day and often cried at night. I drowned into depression and often times the thought of ending it all lingered around but I brushed it aside. I left the farm and moved to live with my sister who welcomed me and often encouraged me to start looking for a Job. One day I woke up and told my self I need professional help, I went to one of the government clinics to seek the services of a counselor. She was very polite and welcomed me, I narrated my situation and asked how I can be helped.

We scheduled some counselling sessions and she also prescribed some Antidepressant pills I was to be taking for about 3 months. That was the beginning of my recovery from depression, I religiously went for counseling 3 times in a week and took my medication until I was ready to face the world again.

I know people are vindictive and very quick to say we told you or we knew this will happen. Therefore sometimes it’s better to speak to a stranger who is a professional and admit that you have a problem which requires professional help as I did.
After just 1 month of counselling and taking my medication I was ready to face the world once again. I got back on my laptop to seek for funding for my business. Within a few weeks I won a consulting contract with the African union that saw me traveling across the SADC region, I was selected among the 2019 Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurs and received $5,000 funding in addition to the $20,000 I received from the African Union, and $7,000 from the SEED Awards. My life was back on track actually more glamourous than before, flying around the world from Belgium to Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria and across the SADC region. In 2019 I got married and moved back at the farm to restart my business.

When I look back now I ask myself what if I completely gave up? Our business has grown to a total work force of 23 full-time staff, I have a daughter I love Soo much and a supportive wife by my side. I could have lost out on all this if I gave up during the time of adversity.

My message to anyone going through depression is seek professional help. Almost every government hospital or clinic has a trained social counselor you can access for free. They are also drugs available to assist you overcome depression. Suicide is never a solution actually you will just be transferring your pain to those you love and they will have to live with the guilty of failing you for the rest of their lives. Get help and restart your life, I did that and it worked.

Tanzania’s main opposition leader Freeman Mbowe to stand trial for terrorism

0

The leader of Tanzania’s main opposition party will stand trial for terrorism, a high court judge ruled Friday, in a case his supporters brand a politically-motivated move to crush dissent.

Chadema party chairman Freeman Mbowe was arrested last July 21 along with a number of other senior party officials, in a night-time police raid just hours before they were to hold a public forum to demand constitutional reforms in the East African country.

The 60-year-old, who has accused police of torturing him during nearly seven months in custody, was charged with terrorism financing and conspiracy.

After prosecutors finished filing evidence against Mbowe earlier this week, speculation mounted that the court in Dar es Salaam might release the politician, ending a saga which has raised concerns about the state of democracy and rule of law under President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

But on Friday, Judge Joachim Tiganga said Mbowe and three other suspects would have to face trial, a ruling denounced by Chadema.

“I have spent two days to go through the evidence provided by the prosecution… The court believes that all the accused have a case to answer,” the judge said.

The next hearing is scheduled for March 4, when Mbowe and the other suspects will open their defence.

Crowds of supporters cheered Mbowe as he arrived at the court, with representatives from foreign embassies also present at the hearing.

– ‘Bad day for justice’ –

Chadema vowed it would continue to fight for “justice” for Mbowe.

“Today is another bad day in the history of Tanzanian justice,” party secretary general John Mnyika told journalists at Chadema headquarters, where he and other supporters wore white T-shirts emblazoned with the words “No case to answer”.

“This is a clear result of having a bad constitution that does not guarantee freedom of the judiciary.”

Mbowe’s arrest dimmed hopes that Hassan would turn the page on the autocratic rule of her predecessor John Magufuli, nicknamed the “Bulldozer” for his uncompromising style and crackdown on dissent.

Chadema has accused Hassan’s government of meddling in the case and said the arrests reflected a deepening slide into “dictatorship”.

In recent days however, the government has made seemingly conciliatory overtures to the opposition.

On Wednesday, Hassan met in Brussels with Chadema’s deputy chairman Tundu Lissu, who was the party’s candidate in the 2020 presidential election but lives in exile in Belgium following an attempt on his life in 2017.

Last week, the government lifted a Magufuli-era ban on four Swahili-language newspapers, including Daima — a daily owned by Mbowe.

Prosecutors had said the allegations against Mbowe do not relate to the constitutional reform conference Chadema had planned to hold in the port city of Mwanza in July last year, but to alleged offences last year in another part of Tanzania.

Chadema has said prosecutors accuse Mbowe of conspiring to attack a public official, and giving 600,000 Tanzanian shillings ($260, 230 euros) towards blowing up petrol stations and public gatherings and cutting down trees to block roads. Africa News

Kanye West Says He Turned Down $100 Million Apple Deal

0

Kanye West is putting his art over money.

On Friday, the billionaire mogul announced that he turned down a reported $100 million deal with Apple. He didn’t explain what the deal was for, but it may be related to his new album DONDA 2, which won’t be released on streaming services come Tuesday.

“After 10 albums after being under 10 contracts. I turned down a hundred million dollar Apple deal,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “No one can pay me to be disrespected. We set our own price for our art.”

He slammed the streaming platforms for devaluing music. “Tech companies made music practically free so if you don’t do merch sneakers and tours you don’t eat,” he continued. “Jay Z made Tidal and fake media attacked him. Well in the words of my big brother. Come and get me. I’m willing to die standing cause I ain’t living on my knees no more. God please cover me.”

http://www.instagram.com/p/CaHOHnSLizi/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_rid=9a906b39-18a8-4e77-baa5-12c4c693a50e

Ye wants to start a “revolution” and has decided to release DONDA 2 independently via his own Stem Player. Each device, manufactured by Yeezy Tech and Kano Computing, costs $200 and plays four different elements of the track—vocals, drums, bass, and music. So far, 67,000 units have been produced and 3,000 are being made daily.

“Donda 2 will only be available on my own platform, the Stem Player. Not on Apple Amazon Spotify or YouTube,” he announced. “Today artists get just 12% of the money the industry makes. It’s time to free music from this oppressive system. It’s time to take control and build our own.”

In a separate post, he added, “I feel that same feeling like when I first moved to New York to make it in Music. I ain’t know what was gonna happen but I knew had to move.”

After revealing that he passed on Apple’s nine-figure deal, the tech giant seemingly canceled a planned sponsorship. He shared a text from one of his associates that read, “Please inform Ye that the apple is no longer doing the sponsorship deal.” Ye captioned it, “Duh.”

http://www.instagram.com/p/CaIZJnQPc41/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_rid=8ced8e72-3ff3-4ad5-8db3-6f14a6e39181

It’s unclear what the sponsorship entailed, but it may have been for the streaming rights to his DONDA Experience concert, which will be held Tuesday at Miami’s LoanDepot Park. Apple previously streamed his DONDA events.

Earlier today, Ye shared the tracklist for DONDA 2. He can also be seen alongside Fivio Foreign and Alicia Keys in the video for “City of Gods.”

KABWATA SEAT PETITIONED… Sean Tembo cites violence and other forms of malpractices

0

THE Kabwata Parliamentary seat has been petitioned.

Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) president Sean Tembo has cited violence and other forms of malpractices as the reason for taking such an action.

Mr Tembo said they decided to file in the petition after consulting their lawyers concerning the violence and the issue of vote stealing by the ruling UPND.

He said the issue was that power was cut at the totaling centre which would have enabled people to tamper with votes because security was compromised.

He said the other reason that prompted them to petition was the discrepancies involving the Democratic Party candidate, Mr Fred Mubanga.

Mr Tembo said the fact that the DP candidate was given zero votes despite him voting for himself was fertile ground to file in their petition.

He said the ruling UPND engaged in violence and actually attacked his supporters at St Patrick Basic School which was actually the totaling centre for the by-election.

Mr Tembo said he filed in the petition around 12:30 hours but that they had not yet served the papers since they handed them in late.

“Yes I can confirm that I have filed in the petition due to the number of happenings that took place prior and after the day of voting,” he said.

He said he was hoping that the courts would overrule the by-election results which saw UPND’s Andrew Tayengwa win.

Mr Tembo said that the petition should show that UPND were not above the law and that was the reason why he had decided to take legal redress.

A number of political parties including the PF contested the election results and claimed that they were not free and fair.

The PF also vowed to petition the elections but has remained mute despite the 14 days ultimatum elapsing.

PF president Given Lubinda said that the party would give their official position once they had completed their consultations with the legal team.

“What I can tell you is that we are working on this matter and at the right time we are going to indicate our position over the matter,” he said.

Mr Lubinda said he was aware that time was flying but that they knew what they were doing despite the two-week period ending today.- Daily nation

The system still has people who don’t want HH to succeed – Andrew Banda

0

By Christopher Miti

UPND deputy national chairperson Andrew Banda says there is a small group of bitter people who still cannot believe that Hakainde Hichilema is President and rubbishes anything that he does.

And Andrew says leaders who will misbehave will fall out of President Hichilema’s government.

Featuring on Breeze FM’s political hour programme on Wednesday night, Andrew said there was a group of people which never thought that Hichilema would be Republican President.

“The dream has now come true for us to be in government, it is not as easy as people think. I am very proud of the people that voted for our party. It is our time now to deliver on our promises. I know a lot has been said in the last five months. We found the government in a very, very bad situation and a lot has to be done,” he said.

Andrew said the UPND found the government in a bad situation and required a person like President Hichilema, a prudent manager, to manage the economy.

“I think in Hakainde Hichilema and his team of Cabinet, we have a team that will deliver on most of our promises. We have been in government in the last five months, the perception to some people who are outside, the people who did not want us in office, you know what happened, some people never thought Hakainde Hichilema will be President on the basis of the region he comes from. There was a lot of campaign against him, some people were so angry with him but he is the President now,” he said.

Andrew said a small group of people has continued to express its anger at the government.

“It’s just a small group of people. A group of haters who never thought he would become President. They are shocked, they are very bitter and anything that he [President Hichilema] does they just rubbish it,” he said.

Andrew noted that within five months, the UPND government had paid 15,000 workers of TAZARA, paid the pensioners and council workers their salary arrears.

He said the government had increased the Constituency Development Fund and would employ 11,200 health workers and 30,000 teachers.

Andrew said the UPND was paying grants on time which was not the case with PF.

Meanwhile, Andrew said there were still people in the system that do not want the UPND to succeed.

He said freedom of expression had been entrenched under the UPND government.

“There is freedom of assembly, freedom of movement now. This issue of the public order Act is not even heard of these days. In those days, going to [a] radio [station], church or going to the toilet, you needed to have permit from the police. That is not there anymore,” he said.

Andrew said the government, using the security wings, was in the process of recovering money which was stolen by the people who were in government.

He described the 2021/2022 fertiliser distribution as a mess.

Andrew said a contract was given to a well-known company to distribute fertiliser at a contract sum of $135 million.

He also said the PF government borrowed money for consumption.

Andrew said the UPND found empty coffers and wondered where the country would have gone if the PF had bounced back.

“You have to thank the people for having seen through the PF because they destroyed the country. It will take us a bit of time to put the situation in order but we shall do it, we are determined,” he said.

Andrew said those who would misbehave in President Hichilema’s government will fall out.

“Look at Hichilema, look at how he leads his life. A very simple man, a religious man and he is not wasteful. He doesn’t believe in corruption. He clearly says ‘zero tolerance to corruption’. Mark my words, if any of our leaders will misbehave and he is watching them; he keeps saying ‘I am watching, I am like an eagle, I am watching’ you will see how those that will misbehave will start falling out of his government,” he said.

On fertiliser distribution, Andrew said the delay to distribute fertiliser by the contracted company had put government in a very awkward situation.

“Across the country, the distribution of fertiliser has been chaotic. Our first fertiliser programme starts this year. The first fertiliser tender under UPND will start next month, that’s when a contractor will be given,” he said.

On the tarring of the Chipata-Vubwi and Chipata-Chadiza roads, Andrew said the government was committed to ensuring the roads were tarred and clarified infrastructure minister Charles Milupi’s statement regarding the two roads.

“Those roads are not commercially viable for public private partnership. What that means is that an investor comes from outside, invests in a road, puts in a lot of millions because government doesn’t have enough money, that investor expects to recover that money over a period of time and they recover it through tollgates. These roads are not commercially viable on PPP in the sense that the traffic is low,” he said. “But this government is going to tar these roads, every district will be connected by tarmac. We have to make Vubwi a economically viable area by building the road. Nobody will make Vubwi and Chadiza economically viable if the roads are not made. So the UPND will tar the roads.”

And Andrew said the UPND was determined to perform and fulfill its promises.

“We know very well the system still has people who do not want us to succeed but we have a mandate from the people of Zambia. I can assure the people that everything that we promised, some of us will make sure that we fulfill our promises, including on the roads,” said Banda.

South Africa: Thousands join ‘Operation Dudula’ protest against migrant workers

About 2,000 people demonstrate against illegal migrant workers in Hillbrow, near Cape Town, as part of Operation Dudula. Operation Dudula, Zulu for “drive back”, has gained traction in a sign of growing anti-migrant sentiment in South Africa, which has been plagued by record unemployment figures and poverty worsened by the pandemic.

They turned up in a mob of several hundred at a migrant centre in South Africa’s Soweto township — unemployed, wielding weapons and angry with foreigners they accuse of taking their jobs.

“Foreigners, go home,” they cried, according to witnesses.

With unemployment at 35 percent — and rising up to 65 percent among youth — competition for jobs has spawned resentment among some jobless South Africans.

In the past, xenophobic protests have morphed into violence. Attacks against foreigners left at least 62 people dead in 2008, while another seven were killed in similar unrest in 2015.

Armed mobs descended on foreign-owned businesses around the financial hub Johannesburg in 2019. The ensuing clashes left at least 12 people dead, of whom 10 were South African, according to the government.

In recent weeks, scores of protesters have been staging demonstrations against undocumented migrants in what they have dubbed Operation Dudula, Zulu for “drive back”.

At the Methodist migrant community centre in Soweto, where about 100 migrant families live, there had been rumours of an attack.

A horde arrived earlier this month — some wielding traditional Zulu leather whips — at the centre in South Africa’s most famous township, located south of Johannesburg.

“Foreign nationals are stealing jobs that belong to South Africans,” protesters said, according to witnesses.

  • ‘Thought was going to die’ –

Sithulisiwe Chinora, a 22-year-old Zimbabwean, recounted how she started shaking violently, her infant wrapped on her back.

“I thought I was going to die that day,” she said.

Father Paul Verryn, who founded the centre, says it is clear who the protesters were.

“They are xenophobic activists, they clearly targeted foreign nationals because they want them out,” said the minister, who is famous for having opened a church in Johannesburg to thousands of undocumented Zimbabweans after the first anti-immigration attacks.

But the Operation Dudula movement says it is pacifist.

Its leader Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini, a man in his thirties from Soweto who often dresses in a military uniform and bullet-proof vest, says he is simply seeking to “restore law and order”.

“The law enforcement is failing us,” he has told reporters.

On Saturday, Dlamini was among some 2,000 people protesting in Johannesburg’s inner-city suburb of Hillbrow.

Among the crowd, Bhekani Thusi, 38, was one of those who said they were “tired of foreigners”.

“We are here to claim our land back. Our space is occupied by foreigners,” he said.

  • Foreign worker quota? –

Last weekend, the same movement held a protest outside a supermarket demanding the sacking of foreign workers employed there.

“There is (nothing) xenophobic about that, it’s the law,” he told journalists. “Any job that doesn’t require skill in South Africa belongs to South Africans.”

Around 3.9 million foreigners live in South Africa, a country of almost 60 million, including political refugees, according to official statistics.

Human Rights Watch says foreigners are often made scapegoats in a country with one of the world’s most unequal societies.

Jay Naidoo, a founding member of the Cosatu workers’ union, said anti-immigrant arguments did not hold up.

“Even if they were to expel all the immigrants, our level of crime would not drop, neither our level of joblessness,” he said.

So far, the latest demonstrations have not spiralled into violence.

A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said law enforcement was keeping an eye on the demonstrations.

But “the right to protest is enshrined in the country’s constitution and so far, they haven’t committed any action that required the police to enforce the law,” the source said.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Wednesday the authorities were closely watching “pockets of groupings that are trying to foment a type of negative attitudes” towards foreigners.

At the start of the month, the government said it was working on a law to install a quota for foreign workers in South African companies.

Zim Judge gives shortest ever sentence for murder

High Court Judge Justice Garainashe Mawadze gave probably Zimbabwe’s shortest sentence ever for murder with actual intent last week when he ordered a convicted person to remain in custody until the rising of the court.

This meant that the 17-year-old convict was sentenced to a few seconds in custody since Justice Mawadze rose immediately after the pronouncement of the judgment and left the court.

The accused was a free person thereafter. The accused was charged with murder with actual intent after she threw her two-year-old baby into Tugwi River in Chivi following persistent harassment and physical abuse by her grandmother and brother.

Justifying the rather unusual sentence, Justice Mawadze said it was necessary to be lenient with the convict because she was raped by an uncle at the age of 14, had a child at 15 years, dropped out of school in Form 1 and was ostracized by her grandmother and brother throughout the ordeal.

He added that the girl had no parental support since her father and mother had separated long before she was raped.

She was also traumatised because the uncle who raped her is still a free man, many years after the crime.

Justice Mawadze said it was not difficult for him to give a guilty verdict against the accused but had a dilemma in coming up with an appropriate sentence considering the trauma that the convict went through.

He said the most appropriate sentence was one that ensured that the girl would not be further punished. He said that the girl was pushed to act the way she did because of the traumatic life she lived.

“The court did find that the accused’s moral blameworthiness is very low taking into account the factors surrounding the commission of the offence. A finding of diminished responsibility has been made,” said Justice Mawadze.

He said community service or a fine were not possible in a murder case. A wholly suspended or postponed sentence would also not apply. He said that custodial sentence or committal to a training institute was also inappropriate because of the accused’s age and the fact that her character was not bad.

In the end Justice Mawadze took advantage of Section s 336(1) (b1) of Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act where a Judge can sentence an accused to a definitive period. The definite period in this case was for the accused “to remain in custody until the rising of the court”.

It is the State case on April 1, 2021 two boys followed the accused to a nearby river where she was going to fetch water. This angered her brother and grandmother who accused her of being a prostitute. They added that her prostitution was evidenced by the fact that she had a child with her uncle.

The traumatized girl was stretched to the limit and she walked towards the river attempting to commit suicide.

However, as she did so her child ran after her and she lifted her up and carried her to the river and threw her into a deep pool. She then failed to muster enough courage to throw herself into the river and she went back home and told her brother and grandmother what what she had just done.

The whole village searched for the child and the body was only found by the Police the next day. Masvingo Mirror

THIS IS SO TOUCHING: HE’S 30 AND HAS BEEN ON ARVS FOR 22 YEARS 👏🏾👏🏾

…he recalls knowing his status while on a bus to school to start his grade 8… before then, he knew nothing!

Hi everyone, my name is Thomas Ntalasha, I’m 30 years old. I am a counselor , Psychologist, National Administrative assistant and Copperbelt Province senior Administrator for Phenomenal Youths Association.

This my Treatment Journey 😊

I am HIV positive and I have been living with the virus for as long as I can remember.
I can’t really recall how or when it happened but this is what I have been told by the guardians who were present during that time..
One day when I was at school grounds playing during break time, this was 1998 when I was 7 yrs old, I felt sick like really sick. Next thing, I collapsed and was rushed to a near by private hospital and was attended to. The doctor later told my guardians that I needed a blood transfusion if I was to live … thankfully they had found a match in a fast way and I recovered . A year later, I fell sick again , and this time after running tests it was discovered that I have TB and HIV at same time. They had to put me on TB Treatment first then ARVs later on . This is the time when a lot of us people never had full knowledge about HIV. Stigma and discrimination was at its highest because the one having it was terrified of themselves and the only thought that crossed their mind was Death , the ones not having it were afraid of it and wouldn’t even desire to share things with the positive ones .. I remember being given a plate, a spoon, a cup of my own and an isolated place to be eating from .. funny thing is I still have that cup 😅 .. life was never so simple being in such a position. Sad thing is I had no clue why I was living like that, to me I thought I was the boss 😅 who needed to have things separate from others.

I kept on asking them why I take this medication and their answer was to keep me strong , I was brought up and lived like that , till one day in 2007 when I made it to G8, my guardian gave me an acceptance letter which he had signed and told me to give it to the head teacher when I report for class.

I was so happy going to school as a G8, while on the bus going to school that day, curiosity got in me to just check what was signed in that letter .. so opened it, as I was going through the paper, I came across a question they had asked “does he/she have any serious illness?” And my guardian answered “yes , he’s HIV positive and currently on Medication” .. that right there changed my state that day ..

I stayed for months isolated and never made any new friends at school.. it took a while for me to recover..

I later took some counselings and I started doing some research . Thankfully I came to understand how this works YOU EITHER GIVE UP AND LET THE VIRUS TAKE CONTROL OVER YOU OR YOU BOSS UP AND TAKE CHARGE.

Acceptance, Loving myself, adhering to meds , eating, and exercise is what had kept me this far .

Clocking 22yrs on Medication, and who says you can’t live that long and achieve your dreams ? ☺️☺️..

Challenges will always be there, people will talk , but it all starts with you .. you wanna survive this long? It starts with you, you wanna stop stigma and discrimination? It starts with you .

Together we are strong .

You wanna chat up with me ,catch me on

Fred Mmembe Divided Zambians Using The Post

0

By Bradley Chingobe

Seeing The Post Newspaper liquidated was a sad day for the Zambian media fraternity. Families lost jobs and many others suffered as a result.

However, we must not forget how Fred Mmembe used that platform to divide the people of Zambia.

His personal vendetta, to make Sure Hakainde Hichilema never becomes president, made him start using derogatory terms such as Bantustsn to alienate Tongas from the rest of the country.

Its for this reason that I feel Fred Mmembe should be kept away from the presidency as far as possible.

His series of Bantustan editorials embedded tribalism in the depth of the Zambian ethos. His editorials gave tribalists an opportunity to legally look at Tongas with utter disdain.

He used his paper to make Zambians believe that Tongas were a lesser and inept group of people who belonged to a secluded area which he, without remorse, called it, Bantustan. A loathed upon Apartheid term,

Fred Mmembe is part of the reason, an HH presidency was delayed and hard to attain. As a Tonga, I will never forget how he belittled us and vehemently made me feel like I was a lesser being.day for the Zambian media fraternity. Families lost jobs and many others suffered as a result.

It is time the president started using the Gulfstream if it is a better jet compared to the challenger!

By Alexander Nkosi

I’m not an engineer, neither am I an expert in jets but I want to believe that the Gulfstream is a better plane than the Challenger, especially for long trips.

Presidential trips are extremely important if we want to strengthen multilateral and bilateral economic and trade relations. The results cannot be seen immediately because it is not like going to the market and coming back with a box of tomatoes, the results will eventually come. Physical presence makes a big difference, especially by the President who is the final authority.

Given this background and considering the fact that he should and he will continue travelling, I want to appeal to him and all those appointed to support him to consider using the Gulfstream if it is deemed a better option compared to the Challenger which is an old jet. Safety and convenience is more important than upholding campaign promises which were clearly based on an ‘outsider view’.

Like I have repeatedly said, an opposition leader cannot have the same intelligence details with those in government and it is absolutely right to change plans when availed with more detailed information. Life is all about getting better information and changing course to achieve optimal results, it is the same with politics and governance. Even political party manifestos are updated to suit ever changing circumstances.

We might not have spent the right amount of money on the Gulfstream but if there are restrictions on the disposal of military equipment and if it is a better jet compared to the Challenger, then I’m of the view that the President should go ahead and use it.

I want him to go to China to meet Chinese authorities and banks we owe to discuss debt restructuring and strengthening of trade and economic ties.

My President, as your employers, we want the best for you! To make local solutions work, we need external solutions as well. In short solutions to our economic challenges are a mix of local and external. Stay focused and continue working work hard. When you win, the country wins!

Thank you!

Dear President Museveni, 21 year later, I’m yet to receive my facilitation of 20 cows- Ben Phiri

0

My focus today will be on the modus operandi of President Yoweri Museveni’s Principal Private Secretaries responsible for structuring appointments for the number one citizen.

If my memory serves me right, on capturing State power in 1986, fhe first PPS to Mzee was Lt ol Serwanga Lwanga who was later succeeded by Eng Kabanda. After Eng Kabanda came Hildah Musubile who was replaced by Amelia Anne Kyambadde who had all this while been Senior Private Secretary (secretarial duties).

When Amelia left for the U.K. to pursue further education, Joan Magezi acted as PPS before being replaced by Fox Odoi (in an acting capacity).

Upon her return from studies, Amelia resumed her position but shortly after began her civil service exit formalities in preparation for her candidature in Mawokota North which she won convincingly. I attended some of her mobilisation meetings in Mpigi as she rallied the women under the Twenzibe Women Association.

Amelia’s position as PPS was taken by one Grace Akello who was herself replaced by Molly Kamukama. Molly was moved to Finance as junior minister and the president appointed the current PPS Dr Kenneth Omona.

Out of all the office holders of the PPS position, l only dealt with Hilda Musubile, Fox Odoi, Joan Magezi and of course Amelia Kyambadde and can state with no fear of contradiction that Amelia Anne Kyambadde was by far the best in my opinion.

On 6th April, 2001, at his plush country home in Rwakitura, President Museveni directed that l be given facilitation for 20 cows. At the same occasion he directed one Dr Sam Byagagaire, who must have been holding the position of Agriculture assistant to Mzee, was directed to show me how to use a hand sprayer in controlling ticks considering that the number of cows l would get was small and therefore required no dip tank for the purpose.

Dr Byagagaire, referred me to one Mr Linchon who was based at Okello House who also did his part by taking me go places where there was zero grazing and crucially they used hand sprayers . Regrettably that was the time Amelia was on the verge of leaving for the UK.

You won’t believe that todate l have NOT been given that facilitation for the 20 cows yet the directive was given 21 years ago! I havd made multiple follow ups with Fox Odoi, Molly Kamukama and Ken Omona but none of these has materialized. As for the current PPS he even stopped picking my calls about mid last year.

Through this publication l believe President Museveni will learn about my plight and hopefully intervene so that l can access the promised facilitation believing that this will take into account how many cows l would have had by now.

WHY I LEFT PRIESTHOOD

This is Pope Francis as a Bishop and me as a student Priest in 2009, that’s 13 years ago….I am in Black as a cleric student, I was studying Italian preparing to leave for Rome Italy… after coming back after serving a suspension for being notorious and arguing with the head Priest. I was later aquited of all charges but the one year I served outside I learnt how to drink, fight, got arrested 4 times for drinking late in the night, arrested for fighting with police officers on New Year’s day with my friend Festus Mwale who lied his name to the police on the inquiry. Later when they came to bail us out (kabili ali ni mwana Judge) they found that there was no Festus Mwale. He lied that he is Chifunilo Banda.. So they shouted Festus and he said ine pano. The officer said “aren’t you Chifunilo Banda” he answered ati “Ni zina yapa mukombo”🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.. Anyway I couldn’t stay after my suspension. I was too exposed and begin drinking heavily inside. Let me make mention that it was during my suspension that I was in law school with controversial law marker Munir Zulu at Nipa. I later left Nipa and went to Unza during which I my charges were dropped and I later went back to learn Italian so I could go continue my studies in Rome/Viterbo…

I later matched out on my own but my head was already 💯 a Priest…..

Till date I’ve never married or engaged ……..In relationships am usually the ah* 🚶🏽‍♂️🚶🏽‍♂️🚶🏽‍♂️

Contrary to my digital/social media persona, in person I keep extremely few friends and never leave home. I party less now and am more introverted and read alot. I read almost daily from 02 to 05. I suffer from Chronic insomnia. My favourite tops are science and Cosmology/the planets and the universe.. At one point I misunderstood science and almost slipped into atheism (belief that there is no God).. However I am now more convinced God is in nature and made all nature and is the enegy that powers nature and is the source and maker of all and holds the universe. He visited the earth 🌎 he created in the person of Jesus Christ. Mary was the special woman specifically chosen and created to carry this God who became a man. By all means she is special because God chose to be born of her, suckled her breasts, as a child, she changed Jesus diapers and bathed him. If you think she is ordinary your brian must be special. That would make God a user to just be born of her and throw her away. We believe that Jesus is God, God therefore has a mother who is marry. Unless we say Mary was just USED. He however has no father as his father is in heaven. But on earth he had mother. Am sure that contract didn’t finish just on Earth. Unless you say Jesus points to Mary whenever they meet in heaven and greets her saying, hey check the lady I used to be born on earth in or he says “There is my mother”.. if you love your mother, why should Jesus hate or disrespect his…

Anyway let’s not go there.. am sure mothers are only important on Earth in heaven they will be our cousins …😂😂😂🤔🤔🤔😏😏😒😒

Anyways enjoy your Saturday… Proud Catholic

FAZ DIDN’T PAY US…we only received allowances, winning bonuses from govt – Kennedy Mweene

FAZ DIDN’T PAY US

…we only received allowances,
winning bonuses from govt – Mweene

AFRICA Cup winning players have sharply reacted to claims by former FAZ president Boniface Mwamelo that they were paid from the AfCON prize money challenging him to produce evidence of bank transfers to each player’s account since they received none.

On the 10th anniversary marked on February 12 since Zambia famously beat a start-studded Didier Drogba led Cote d’Ivoire side 8-7 on penalties to lift the trophy for the first time in the country’s
history, captain of the that triumphant side Christopher Katongo revealed that team members were never paid anything from the prize money by the previous FAZ executive which has evoked a lot of debate among stakeholders.

But Mwamelo, who was vice-president then, in a recent interview rebutted Katongo’s claims saying players were paid even though he could not remember how much it was which the aggrieved players vehemently deny.

“The players were paid, the prize money came after we had comeback. So what we did was we got their bank details, the money from the prize
money was given [to the players] via bank transfers” Mwamelo added: “They got the money, that I am confirming. It is only that these guys at FAZ they have got the records but you know it has
been 10 years so I can’t say off the
how much it was but they got the money.”

But goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene, who plays for African giants Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa, called this reporter yesterday and gave an
unsolicited interview where he challenged Mwamelo to produce proof of payment and wondered how a whole vice-president can fail to tell how much they paid players but still claim that they were paid.

Mweene reiterated Katongo’s statement that the only money players received during the AfCON were winning bonuses and daily allowances
from the government and nothing from the prize money as Mwamelo claimed.
He also said it was an insult for anyone to suggest that the former players were being pushed by people with an agenda saying they were
old enough to be conned by anyone.

“The only money we got is winning bonuses and daily allowances straight from government and this money was being paid cash by the
government accountant, and we were signing. The record is there. We did not receive anything from FAZ,” Mweene said with emphasis.

“And they should not make us look like we are broke. We are suffering that is why we are talking about this. Some of us are still playing football, most of our colleagues are now coaches – they are working. We just want to set the record straight that we did not
receive any money from FAZ. And it is an insult to suggest that we are being pushed. That we have an agenda, being pushed by who? We wanted
to know and we still want to know which player received money from FAZ. We are old enough. We have a group as players, we have discussed
this. No one can push us. Banks keep records. Let them go to the bank and get a print out to show which player got the prize money from
FAZ.”

He challenged Mwamelo to tell people the truth saying he was holding a senior position not know the truth.

“We can expose our bank details. We received daily allowances and winning bonuses from government yes. It’s disrespectful for him to say
we have been paid when we received nothing. He says he doesn’t know the amounts, how can a vice-president of the association not know? Since he spoke publicly that were paid, let him produce the bank details. How can he fail to know the amounts but he says he paid us?” wondered Mweene.

The multiple club and country champion refused to talk about pledges that were made to the team saying it was up to companies that pledged
to confirm if they fulfilled their pledges to FAZ or not.

And Congolese based Rainford Kalaba when contacted disclosed that the only money the players received upon their return to Zambia was the remaining winning bonus from the Cote d’Ivoire game which was paid to them by a government accountant at Pamodzi Hotel after the trophy parade ceremony in the showgrounds.

“The only money we got I remember pa Pamodzi ni winning bonus iyaba Ivory Coast that’s all. Let him produce evidence of who got rewarded from the prize money. We can’t just wake up today
and start talking about this. We have been quiet for 10 years just because of the respect we have for the government thinking promises will be fulfilled but then we said okay this 10th anniversary let’s
remind these people. What have we gained? It’s lack of respect to say we have been paid when we haven’t,” he said.

“Don’t just talk, produce evidence that you paid us. Government yes paid us bonuses and allowances. That’s the only thing we benefited and people used to build houses not the prize money. So if government didn’t pay, we could have come out of the tournament with nothing. Tekulandafye (don’t just speak) give the media proof.”

Kalaba also suggested that the current national team was not doing well because spiritually people [former players] harboured complaints
in their hearts about unfulfilled promises.

“We must be together in spirit that our team must win not where others are not happy,” he said adding that Zambia was for every Zambian.

“…you promise a child that I will buy you a car when you pass but 10 years goes and a child is not reminding you. You have to get worried
as a parent,” Kalaba said.
He also said the pledge by former local government minister Nkandu Luo to give them houses for their triumph had not been fulfilled to date.

Isaac Chansa, who is now coach at City of Lusaka, declined to talk about the issue because he and colleagues were still discussing the next
collective action.

The song begins with the lyrics: “I am dominant; you will be ruled under my strict instructions, I will drive you crazy if you looked at other girls on the street.

“Yes, I’m dominant, you’re my piece of sugar. As long as you’re with me, you’ll walk under my command.”

The bride was reportedly dancing to the song and enjoying her wedding, but the groom’s family were not impressed resulting in a huge row between the two families.

This is not the first time this has happened. The song led to another divorce in Jordan last year.

BOZ Currency Intervention Policy Is A Failed Policy In Zambia- Peter Sinkamba

BOZ CURRENCY INTERVENTION POLICY IS A FAILED POLICY IN ZAMBIA

A couple of days ago, the Bank of Zambia Governor informed the Nation that its meeting held on February 14-15, 2022, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decided to hold the Policy Rate at 9.0 percent. The Nation was informed that in arriving at this decision, Committee took into account the sharp decline in inflation since the November 2021.

Additionally, the Nation was informed that to help meet demand and dampen volatility in the exchange rate, the Bank of Zambia continued to support the forex market and sold a net of US$146 million.

I have no problem with the MPC intervention through the Policy Rate. However, I have always opposed currency intervention policy.

The currency intervention, also known as foreign exchange market intervention or currency manipulation, is amonetary policy operation, where a central bank or government sells foreign currency in exchange of local curreny with the intention of influencing the exchange rate and trade policy.

Currency intervention cannot work in Zambia for many reasons. Most importantly, it can not work in our country because our our forex earnings have dwindled significantly for this country in the last seven years. Our GDP has dwindled from around US$28 billion in 2014 to somewhere around US$23 billion in 2022. Thus, using currency in a scenario like this can deplete the foreign reserves pretty quickly. We saw this policy drain the foreign reserves from over US$3 billion in 2016 to less than US$1.5 billion in 2021.

And with the latest intervention, currency intervention is already proving it still remains a wrong rrmedy for Zambia. The MPC justified currency intervention on account that in January 2022, increasing demand pressures continued resulting in the Kwacha depreciate by 2.9 percent against the US $ to a monthly average of K17.27. Indeed, the rate of the dollar to Kwacha reduced from around K19 to aboug K17 per dollar.

However, into less than one week, the rate is already headed for K18. It is already around K17.60 per dollar. At this rate, in two week’s time, it will land back at K19.00 per dollar, and more.

Best strategy to deal with dollar rate is expanding the export fortfolio significantly, like can be done through the Green Party and Zambian Hemp Growers and Industries Association Model of cannabis and hemp Industrialization.

To put this in simpler perspective, the entire US$146 has been bought of at K17 per dollar, and will soon be sold off at K19 per dollar. And the profit will be?

Oppose Amendment To Laws Threatening Families- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

OPPOSE AMENDMENT TO LAWS THREATENING FAMILIES-AMB. EMMANUEL MWAMBA

“The Church should rise to protect both the sanctity of life and marriage”

Lusaka- Saturday 19th February 2022

Former Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Emmanuel Mwamba has strongly opposed proposed amendments to the penal code that threaten family values and the Christian standing of Zambia.

Mr. Mwamba said the proposed amendments were alarming because if passed they will allow men to have multiple marriages and will also remove the criminalization of abortions.

Mr. Mwamba said this would deviate Zambia from its well respected standing on such matters.

Mr. Mwamba feared that the amendments would drive Zambia to a state of immorality and lack of respect for human life.

Mr. Mwamba reiterated that abortions violate the right to life as life begins at conception and no one is entitledto take it or destroy it.

He said to allow wanton procurement of abortions without deterring measures such as the law, will turn Zambia into a state without respect to life.

He also expressed surprise that Government intends to allow men to be engaged in multiple marriages without regard to the Christian standing of the country.

Government has announced that it will table before Parliament amendments to Section 6 of the Penal Code which will among other provisions, remove criminalization of abortions and bigamy.

Mr. Mwamba also urged Government to be cautious on the proposal to remove the death penalty as Zambians have always opposed its removal in the Chona, Mvunga, Mwanakatwe, and Mungomba Constitution Review Commissions.

The Zambia Law Development Commission(ZLDC) has proposed that the laws on bigamy and abortions be repealed.

The proposals are contained in the review of the Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code.

While statutory laws prohibits bigamy and polygamy, the arrangement co-exists with customary law which permits the act.

Mr. Mwamba said the status quo should be allowed to exist to protect the sanctity of marriage and the Christian principles espoused in Zambia as a Christian Nation.

He said the UPND in Opposition, were accused that they would allow immorality and perversion such as promoting homosexuality and abortions if given state power, and this move will therefore prove those critics right with such amendments to the law.

Mr. Mwamba called on the Church to raise strong objections to the amendments and raise a lobby against the proposals.

Fred M’membe Started the Tribal Hate Campaign Against the Tongas, taking Zambia to a Dark Place- Laura Miti

0

Long-time Zambian human rights defender, Laura Miti, has said that he finds it hard to forgive Socialist Party President Fred M’membe for the tribal campaign again the Tonga speaking people because of his hatred for United Party for National Development President Hakainde Hichilema.

In a post on her Facebook page in which she reflected on the Post Newspaper story, Ms. Miti said that Dr. M’membe, with a clear mind, started a hate campaign against a whole innocent people that took Zambia to a dark place, a campaign that was later adopted by Former President Edgar Lungu’s Patriotic Front (PF), as personified by Chishimba Kambwili and backing voices of Professor Nkandu Luo and others.

Below is the full post

The Story of the Post

Thinking about the Post, one is very ambivalent about its place in history.

The paper was, for a long time, the beacon of free speech and a protector of democracy.

Then, it went mad!

A sense by the owner, Fred M’membe, that Rupiah Banda should not have stood for elections, after President Levy Mwanawasa died, consumed the paper. Fred was convinced, and declared in the paper, that Rupiah Banda, then constitutionally acting as President, should have stepped aside for “Levy’s chosen” successor, Ng’andu Mangande.

The vitriol that ensued, against RB’s candidature in the Presidential by-election was shocking, for me anyway. He was viciously attacked simply for wanting a presidency that had fallen into his lap, and for Fred claiming Levy had told him he preferred Mangande.

OK, if truth be told, Mangande would have almost certainly been many people’s preference and probably a better President than RB turned out to be. RB had the right to pursue a presidency within his grasp, though.

Anyhow, from there, it was downwards into the gutter, for the Post. Fred decided he would use his paper to ensure RB had a short presidency. In came the clean-up-Sata project.

Before then, you see, the Post did not like Sata. Declared him, rightly so I might add, violent, uncouth, and much else. But he was, I guess, the only person seen by Fred as being able to unseat RB.

The Post, therefore, reconfigured itself into a Sata rehabilitation and campaign platform. Through some scary and reckless reporting, Fred successfully delivered the Sata presidency.

Sata’s time in office was sadly short-lived. It was a short period when the Post (or is it Fred) basked in the kingmaker status. The paper looked away from any wrongdoing and sung “Michael’s” praises to high heaven. It seems the Post even stop paying taxes.

I wish it had ended there – with the paper and Fred enjoying the good life, but no.

The most tragic aspect of the degeneration of the Post was its decision to make some seeming hatred between Fred and then UPND president, Hakainde Hichilema, another project of the paper.

Unfortunately, it was decided that it was not enough to vilify HH alone. The paper started the Paint-the-Tonga Black programme which was later adopted by EL’s PF, as personified by Chishimba Kambwili and backing voices of Professor Luo and others.

It is the last part, I find difficult to forgive Fred for. He, with a clear mind, started a hate campaign against a whole innocent people that took our beautiful country to a dark place.

That said, the Post should not have been closed and especially liquidated. That, ostensibly done because the paper had accumulated a huge tax bill, was really because it did not transfer its worship of Michael Sata to his successor EL.

You see, just like RB had done with Mangande after Levy’s death, EL prevented Fred’s preferred Wynter Kabimba or compromise Miles Sampa from becoming President after Sata died.

Let me leave it there.

EFF wants ACC to investigate Alpha Fertiliser deal

The opposition Economic Freedom Fighters party has asked the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the alleged procurement of Fertiliser worth 50 million US dollars by the government using Alpha Commodities Zambia Limited.

In a letter dated 17th February 2022 signed by the party President Kasonde Mwenda and his Secretary General Changala Siame, the party wants the ACC to expeditiously investigate the corruption allegations leveled against the company.

The EFF says the ACC should institute investigations on the single sourcing of the fertilizer supplier as it was confirmed by Vice President Mutale Nalumango to Parliament.

Party President Kasonde Mwenda and his Secretary General Changala Siame have stated that in as much as the law allows the alternative procurement procedures in special circumstances, the required conditions to allow for a single source were not met.

The duo have said the procured Fertiliser was overpriced by over 150 percent and there was alleged interference with the award of the Fertiliser supply tender by a known cabinet Minister.

“Salient issues raised in the letter to the ACC Director-General calls for investigation in The Single-Sourcing of the fertilizer supplier (Alpha Commodities Zambia Limited) as was confirmed by her honour the Vice President of Zambia Madam Mutale Nalumango to Parliament is illegal and contrary to Law as is contained in the Public Procurement Act no. 8 of 2020: Sec 54. (1) A procuring entity shall use open bidding as the preferred procurement method for the public procurement of goods, works, services and for the purposes of the Republic.”

“In as much as the Law allows for alternative procurement procedures in special circumstances; the required conditions to allow for a single source were not met as is stipulated in our law PPA 54(2), thus rendering the whole procurement process of the said fertilizer an abuse of power and thus an act of corruption.”

“The procured fertilizer was overpriced by over 150%. Current Saudi Arabia sourced fertilizer price per ton is between $400 to $550 yet the Government of Zambia procured the same at $1, 040 from the said supplier. This procurement was out of the allocated budget and illegal as it goes against the Law: Public Procurement Act no. 8 of 2020: Sec 56 (3) A person who knowingly commences or approves a procurement proceeding without ascertaining whether the procurement is within budget or funds are available for the procurement, commits an offense.”

“Alleged interference with the award of the said Fertilizer Supply tender by the Minister of Information and Media Hon. Chushi Kasanda. The Zambian citizenry wishes you to investigate and ascertain or dispel her alleged involvement. It is also alleged that the said supply of fertilizer has not been fully delivered. That too the Zambian citizens wishes you to investigate.”

Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested a Zambia National Service (ZNS) Director of Operations for corrupt practices involving the exportation of Mukula logs.

Anti-Corruption Commission Spokesperson Queen Chibwe named the officer as Colonel Maliwa Muwanei aged 45, of ZNS Makeni in Lusaka.

Mrs Chibwe said that Colonel Muwanei has been arrested and charged with one count of Abuse of Authority of Office, contrary to Section 21 sub section 1 of the Anti-Corruption Act number 3 of 2012.

Details are that Colonel Muwanei whilst acting together with persons unknown on dates unknown but between 1st June 2021 and 30th September 2021 in Lusaka did Abuse the Authority of Office by arbitrarily resolving to regularize an attempted illegal export to China of Twenty-Three (23) containers laden with Mukula logs transported by Ackson Tembo of ACK General Suppliers, an act which is prejudicial to the interest of the Government of the Republic of Zambia.

He has since been released on bond and will appear in court soon.

The joint investigative team has also arrested and charged businessman Bwalya Kalandanya for the offence of fraudulent registration of contractor’s certificate contrary to section 57(1) (a) as read with subsection (2) of the National Council for Construction Act no.10 of 2020.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said that it is alleged that on 12th October, 2016 at unknown time at National Council for Construction in Lusaka, the suspect with intent to deceive officers did procure registration of contractor’s certificate in the names of Nsochita General Contractors and Suppliers Limited by false representation and used the said certificate to bid for tenders and was awarded various contracts by the government.

Mr Hamoonga says Kalandanya will appear in court soon.

Some Tonga Forenames And Their Meanings

0

SOME TONGA FORENAMES AND THEIR MEANINGS.

The Tonga people are an ethnic group found in the Southern part of Zambia and in the northern part of Zimbabwe. The Tonga people are believed to be the oldest Bantu settlers in Zambia. There are Valley Tonga who reside in a series of gorges near the Zambezi river and the Plateau Tonga who live in higher lands. They all speak the Tonga language “Chitonga” but each region has its own dialect with some differences of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.

In Tonga culture, the naming of a child is an important occasion. As is the case with many other African societies, the names given to children are usually based on the different circumstances and events that surround the birth of the child, these include; manner of the birth, happiness, fertility, bad occurrences, order of birth and so on. In some instances forenames are given to infants in memory of a dead family member such as a sibling, parent or grandparent. Sometimes the characteristics that parents observe from the child at birth also play a role in determining the name.

Some of the common Tonga names are as follows:

LUYANDO: This name means “Love”. Parents gave this name as an expression of the love they had for each other and also for the love that they had for the child. A child with the name “Luyando” was seen as one that would promote love in the family.

LUSHOMO: This name means “faith”. This name was given to children as a way of acknowledging the importance of having faith. It expresses the faith that the mother and father had in each other and also the faith that the parents have for their child to grow up and become a successful person. It also expresses faith in God.

NCHIMUNYA: This name means “the same as before.” In the cultural context, this name referred to a situation where the child who was born was of the same gender as the immediate older siblings. Parents gave this name as an expression of the fact they had received a child who was of the same gender as the one they had received before.

MUTINTA: This name originates from the word “Tinta” which means “To change”. This name simply implied that the new child had caused a change in the gender order of the children. For example if a couple had previously had 3 female children and then finally got a male child, they would name the male child “Mutinta”. In the same way if a couple had previously had 3 male children and then finally got a female child, they would name the female child “Mutinta”.

MAINZA: This name means “rainy season”. This name was given to someone who was born in the raining season. The raining season was the time when agriculture was most active and so this name was associated with hard work. The implication was that a person who was named “Mainza” would be hard working.

BANJI: This name means “Many”. This name was usually given in cases when twins were involved. It would be given to the second born of the twins. During birth, there would be a case when the old women doing the delivery are not aware that the mother is carrying twins, after delivery a baby the women would realize that there is yet another baby to be born and they would encourage the mother to keep pushing and so the last baby to come out during a twin delivery would be called “Banji”.

BEENZU: This name means “Visitors”. Parents would name their child “Beenzu” in a situation where the child was born at a time when important visitors had visited the family. It was also believed that a person named “Beenzu” would grow to be a welcoming person who was kind and treated visitors well.

MILIMO: This name means “works”. In Tonga culture being a hard working person was a very important characteristic for one to have. Parents would give their child the name “Milimo” with the hope that the child would grow up to be a hard working person.

CHOOLWE: This name means “luck”. Parents would give this name to a child born at a time when they felt that luck was on their side. For example if the child was born at a time when the family was doing very well financially, naming the child “Choolwe” would be a way of announcing to others that the family has been very fortunate in life and that the coming of a new child would increase that good luck.

CHEELO: This name means “ghost”. A ghost refers to a spirit of a deceased person that those who are alive believe they can see or hear. Among the Tonga, ghosts were greatly feared.

CHIPEGO: This name means “Gift”. It was given as a way to acknowledge that the child who was born was a gift from God. It was a way of expressing gratitude for this wonderful gift.

LWEENDO: This name means “Journey”. This name was usually given to a person who was born at a time when the mother was on a journey.

TWAAMBO: This name means “Discussions”. The name was usually given when the child was born at a time when the family or community was involved in discussing important issues that could have been very contentious. Children born during a time when there were important issues being debated are the ones who were given the name “Twaambo”.

BUUMBA: This name means “sadness”. This name was given to a child who was born at a time when there was a sad event in the family such as a funeral.

CHIMUKA: This name originates from the word “muka‟ which means “be late”, so “Chimuka” means “the one who has come late”. This name was usually given to a child whose gestation period took a bit longer than normal. For example in a case where the baby was born in the 10th month of pregnancy, the child would be named “Chimuka”.

These are just a small selection of some Tonga forenames. Feel free to comment in the comment’s section below on the other Tonga forenames you know and their meaning.

New Kenya law legalizes polygamy

New Kenya law legalizes polygamy

A new law that went into effect in Kenya this week makes it legal for a man to marry as many women as he wants. And a leading women’s group is applauding it.

President Uhuru Kenyatta signed the polygamy measure into law Tuesday, formally recognizing what has long been a cultural practice in the nation.

Parliament passed the bill in March despite protests from female lawmakers who angrily stormed out of the late-night session at the time.

The bill initially allowed the first wife the right to veto the husband’s choice of additional spouses. Male members of parliament successfully pushed to get that clause dropped.

“Marriage is the voluntary union of a man and a woman whether in a monogamous or polygamous union,” Kenyatta said in a statement. “The Marriage Act 2014 defines various types of marriages including monogamous, polygamous, customary, Christian, Islamic and Hindu marriages.”

“We are happy with the law because finally all marriages are being treated equally.”
Christine Ochieng, executive director of Federation of Women Lawyers

No limit on number of wives

The law legalizes polygamous unions, but does not provide an official limit on the number of wives a man can have.

The Federation of Women Lawyers, a powerful women’s rights group, applauded aspects of the bill and criticized others.

Polygamy already is a common fixture among many cultures in Kenya and in some other African countries.

The bill, the group said, is long overdue because polygamous unions were previously not regarded as equal to regular marriages.

“We are happy with the law because finally all marriages are being treated equally,” said Christine Ochieng, executive director of the nation’s Federation of Women Lawyers.

“All marriages will be issued with marriage certificates, including customary marriages. Before this, customary marriages were treated as inferior with no marriage certificates. This opened up suffering for the women because they could not legally prove they were married to a particular man. “

First wife has no say

However, she said, the first wife should have a say in picking her husband’s co-wives.

“What we are not happy about is that now a man can marry another wife or wives without the consent of the first wife,” she said. “That section of the law is potentially open to abuse because a man can secretly marry other wives because he doesn’t need his wife’s consent to marry.”

But Jane Kimani, a Nairobi resident, said the bill is archaic and has no place in modern society.

“Polygamous marriages should not even be an issue today,” she said. “Kenya is moving backward instead of changing with the times.”

CONCOURT RULES GEARS CASE AGAINST PF MPs RIGHTLY BEFORE IT

0

By Mwaka Ndawa

THE Constitutional Court has ruled that the matter in which GEARS Initiative Zambia has petitioned former Kabushi member of parliament Bowman Lusambo and eight others who had their seats nullified by the High Court for impersonating as member of parliament, is rightly before it.

The Court says it has the power to determine the petition as former minister of foreign affairs Joseph Malanji has not demonstrated how the petition by GEARS to challenge his continuous attendance of parliamentary proceedings and others whose seats were nullified, was an abuse of court process.

In this matter, GEARS wants the Constitutional Court to declare that Lusambo, Joseph Malanji, Mutotwe Kafwaya, Sibongile Mwamba, Luka Simumba, Allan Banda, Kabwe Chewe, Kalalwe Mukosha and Christopher Chibuye having been declared not duly elected by the Lusaka High Court are contravening the constitution by taking part in parliamentary business.

It wants an order that the nine be barred by the court from attending sessions of the National Assembly, taking part in any business of Parliament and masquerading as members of parliament.

GEARS is further seeking a declaration that the nullified parliamentary seats – Kabushi, Kwacha, Chimwemwe, Nakonde, Lunte, Lubansenshi, Kansama Central, Mkushi North and Chinsali will remain vacant until filled by appeal or a fresh election.

During hearing of motion to dismiss the petition on a point of law at the lastsitting before Constitutional Court judges Ann Sitali, Mungeni Mulenga, Margaret Munalula, Palan Mulonda and Judy Mulongoti, lawyer representing Malanji, Joseph Chirwa argued that the Speaker aimed at scandalising the Court when she barred his client from attending parliamentary business.

Chirwa said in relation to the remedy that the High Court registrar submits names of those who engaged in corrupt activities, the constitution is silent in relation to section 108(6)(C).

He argued that Malanji was never found to have engaged in corrupt practices and the erroneous finding that he does not possess a grade 12 certificate was yet to be determined by the court.

“It is our prayer that Malanji be allowed to start attending parliamentary business and given the dues that come with that office. The issue of High Court judgment being maybe final, is only applicable when there is no Appeal in the Constitutional Court,” said Chirwa.

Benjamin Mwelwa submitted that Malanji having appealed to the Constitutional Court was at liberty to remain in the National Assembly without obtaining a stay of execution of the High Court’s judgment.

But GEARS argued that the nullification of a parliamentary seat by the High Court was binding and could not be stayed by an appeal opposing the said decision.

GEARS through its lawyer Meliluli Batakathi insisted that no court in Zambia had pronounced itself on whether a member of parliament who has appealed against the nullification of their election could participate in parliamentary business.

Ruling on the matter, judge Sitali, on behalf of others, said that Malanji had not explained why the issues raised under the petition should be determined as preliminary issues as opposed to being dealt with during the determination of the petition.

“We are of the view that the remaining issues raised in the notice of motion will be best dealt with within the context of the petition. For that reason, we find no merit in them and accordingly dismiss them. The motion wholly fails and is dismissed,” he said.

She counseled litigants against the tendency of seeking to have matters raised by way of petition disposed of as preliminary issues under Order 14A of the white book, particularly where the issues raised as preliminary issues could be raised in an answer to the petition.

“This tendency merely delays the disposal of petitions and does not serve the interest of any of the parties to the petition. We therefore strongly discourage from raising unnecessary matters as preliminary issues,” said judge Sitali.

“We refer this matter back to the single judge of this court to schedule the petition for hearing.”
