PRESIDENT HH CONFERS WITH BANKERS ASSOCIATION OF ZAMBIA

He wrote……

Today we were delighted to meet with a delegation from the Bankers’ Association of Zambia, led by the new Chair, Mizinga Melu.

We discussed how the Association can help your businesses, including SMEs to achieve economic growth and create jobs.

It was good to learn that mining, agriculture and manufacturing are key focus areas for the banks.

This aligns well with our government’s ambitious plans to turn our land-linked country into a manufacturing and export hub.

With Financial inclusion in Zambia at 69% and non-performing loans down to 6% now, from 11% last year, the local banking industry is thriving but we must increase access to affordable finance for our people.

In order to maintain the current positive market sentiment, we will continue being transparent, open and frank in our discussions about how we can grow our economy through cooperation and partnership with the banks.

Support from local and international stakeholders continues to grow and we will ensure that our economic reforms benefit our country for generations to come.

Hakainde Hichilema
President of the republic of Zambia
