Home Affairs Minister Hon Stephen Kampyongo MP has expressed happiness at the decision by the constitutional court to dismiss President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility petition.
Hon Kampyongo said the issue with the President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility to stand in this year’s general election has finally been put to rest.
Hon Kampyongo said the issue with President Lungu contesting to stand in this year’s General Election was already settled.

The Constitutional Court of Zambia on Wednesday dismissed the President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility petition by UPND Katuba Member of Parliament Bampi Kapalasa and UPND Member Joseph Busenga on the grounds that the matter was already decided in the Danny Pule case in 2018.

In a unanimous ruling delivered by Judge Mungeni Mulenga on behalf of the full bench of seven Constitutional Court Judges, the Court agreed with the Attorney General that issues regarding interpreting the term of office held by President Lungu from 2015 to 2016 were conclusively decided by the Court and that it no longer has jurisdiction to re-examine the same issues.
And Hon Kampyongo said he is happy with the ruling by the constitutional court.
Hon Kampyongo said the Party will now go back to tell the people what they have done for the time the party has been in power.

“This issue was already settled. And the party will focus on the campaigns for this August’s General Election,” he said.
He has since thanked the people of Zambia for the confidence they have shown in President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
