PROPAGANDA ON SOCIAL MEDIA BECOMING A HUGE CHALLENGE TO GOVERNMENT – MWEETWA

Chief Government Spokesperson Hon. Cornelius Mweetwa says the Government is facing a huge challenge of social media in terms of propaganda.

Addressing diplomatic Staff at the Zambia Embassy in Ethiopia, Hon. Mweetwa who is also Information and Media Minister said it was unfortunate that some people in Zambia were abusing social media to sway citizens from appreciating the good works and economic development that has been recorded by Government.

The Minister urged Diplomats to ignore social media propaganda because Government had restored the economy and oneness as envisaged by the practical application of One Zambia one Nation slogan.

Hon. Mweetwa said unlike in the past, all regions in Zambia were now active participants in the country’s development agenda.

The Minister said President Hakainde Hichilema was upholding Article 173 and 259 provisions in the Constitution that required Gender parity and Ethnic considerations when making appointments.

He further urged the Diplomats to uphold professionalism and continue flying the Zambian flag high as they execute their duties in Ethiopia.

Zambia Embassy in Ethiopia, Charge D’ Affaires, Mr. Trevor Sichombo thanked the Minister for visiting the Embassy and updating the diplomatic staff on developmental matters.

He said it was important that Diplomats were weary of the challenge of Social Media propaganda as the Internet remained one of the major sources of information for people living abroad.

The Minister is in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to attend the African Union Specialized Technical Committee Meeting-STC- on Communication and ICTS.
