PROPOSED 37% ELECTRICITY TARIFF HIKE SENDS SHIVERS AMONG CHOMA WELDERS

By Michael Nyumbu

Metal Fabricators from Choma District fear for the future of their business should the Energy Regulation Board – ERB approve the proposed increment of Electricity Tariffs by ZESCO up to 37 percent.

Chris Monde who operates from Batoka Township told Byta FM Zambia that the UPND Government must not make people regret ever voting it into power.

Monde explained that the Government should live up to its promise of lowering the cost of living instead of upward adjustments in key economic sectors that have a huge impact on other key sectors of the economy.

He said increasing electricity tariffs will result in increased rentals and bills hence disadvantaging his business.

And Lucky Monde, another small corporate owner, said the proposed increment if approved would strike his newly established business downwards.

He fears that the ZESCO proposal will lead to the close of small businesses.
