Family of late Fourth Republican President Rupiah Banda has left for Chipata District in Eastern Province for the final funeral traditional rites at his farm.

Family Spokesperson, Fisho Mwale, tells Diamond News in an exclusive interview before departure at City Airport onboard an airforce plane that the process is meant to fulfill a dignified sendoff of a leader who respected culture.

Mr. Mwale says his clan is grateful of government’s unwavering support in the difficult chapter it is going through following the demise of President Banda.

Meanwhile, Mr. Banda’s son Andrew is saddened by assertions peddled by some politicians on social media implying that his father died at home due to negligence.

He explains that having been around his father in his final days, government was supportive hence it is uncalled for and lack of morality that amidst a bereavement such unwarranted comments are made.

The trip to Chipata comes four days after the former President was put to rest at Embassy Park following a seven-day national mourning.

Among people expected to attend the final funeral rites include Chief Gawa Undi and his counterpart Paramount Chief Mpezeni.- Diamond TV
