RELEASE DUAL CARRIAGE-WAY PROTESTORS

It’s absurd that the Police proceeded to detain 22 political and civic activists, that intended to protest against the use of public funds in a purported Public-Private Partnership in the construction of the Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriage-Way and Luanshya-Fisenge-Masangano roads.

EFF President, Kasonde Mwenda gave the Police a seven-day Notice as is required by law. The Police turned up and claimed that “Permit” was denied…there is no Permit required under the Public Order Act. When you fulfil the NOTICE requirements and plans to marshal the procession, there is no requirement to “obtain permit”.

While the Police had no shame marshalling a protest by gay activist who were issuing insults along the protest march, they want to disrupt a lawful march of citizens keen to protect public funds.

Release the detained
