RETIRED TEACHERS TOLD TO VACATE STAFF HOUSES

Education Minister DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA has directed educational authorities on the Copperbelt to immediately remove all retired teachers who have been paid repatriation allowances, from institutional houses.

Mr SYAKALIMA has told ZNBC news in an interview in Kitwe this morning that teachers who have NOT been paid repatriation allowances must be paid their dues so that they vacate institutional houses.

He said it is unacceptable that newly recruited teachers are suffering with accommodation, when there are houses available in school compounds.

Mr SYAKALIMA also said government is addressing the problem of accommodation for recently employed teachers to answer to the increased enrolment following the introduction of free education policy.

He said government wants to ensure that teachers remain committed to their work without being burdened with accommodation challenges.
