SCAM UNEARTHED IN WHICH SMUGGLERS ARE REPACKAGING ZAMBIAN MEALIE-MEAL AND RESELLING TO CONGO DR
Government has unearthed a scam on the Copperbelt where smugglers are repackaging mealie-meal with preferred Zambian brands, which have high demand in neighboring democratic republic of Congo–DRC- where they are reselling.
Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo has revealed that a machine which was being used to label the preferred mealie-meal brands has since been confiscated.
Addressing journalists yesterday, Mr. Matambo is concerned that mealie-meal smugglers keep finding other methods and routes of smuggling the commodity but however stated that government plans to place checkpoints in areas where smuggling is rampant in an effort to combat it.
Meanwhile, Mr. Matambo disclosed that 30,000 bags of mealie-have been impounded in the province in the last 7 days.
