TRUCK CARRYING SODIUM HYDROXIDE PLUNGES INTO KAMFINSA STREAM
The Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) has warned people against using or coming in contact with water from Kamfinsa stream following a possible water pollution after a truck carrying chemicals fell into the stream.
According to the Manager of Corporate Affairs, Friday Phiri, preliminary investigations by a team of Inspectors from ZEMA indicate that a truck belonging to Miles Trucking, loaded with 56 tonnes of Sodium Hydroxide, plunged into the Kamfinsa Stream after the driver lost control on the Kitwe-Ndola carriage way.
Sodium Hydroxide is corrosive and reacts violently when in contact with water and can cause damage and severe burns when in contact with the eyes or skin.
