UNIVERSITY OF KABWE TO START OPERATION THIS APRIL – PROF. NGAMBI

Professor Ngambi, the Vice Chancellor of University of Kabwe, announces the university will officially open on April 29 with Open Distance Learning (ODL) residential classes. However, an online alternative is also available for students who are not able to attend the physical classes.

During her appearance on the WEEKEND BREAKFAST show at Spice FM Radio, Professor Ngambi expressed her concerns about universities only focusing on producing graduates and monetary gain, rather than providing the requisite competencies necessary for students to secure the jobs required by industries and organizations. She criticized that some institutions do not check for the skills, competencies, and values required to meet industry standards.

“We are equipping people with the requisite skills that would be needed in industry, out there when they go out there, be it government, whatever it is they are going to work,” said the Vice-Chancellor, emphasizing the importance of training students to become industry-ready and adding value to their respective organizations.

She added that graduates can struggle when they realize that the job opportunities in their area are limited, and many students end up taking positions outside their field of study without the necessary competencies to add value to their new organization.

The full-time classes at the University of Kabwe will begin on May 13th, signaling a new era for university students in Zambia.

Professor Ngambi, adds that the university’s curriculum is anchored on appropriate values. In this regard, the university will offer courses on sustainable behavior and ethics to all students. Furthermore, a course on entrepreneurship will be taught to all students, regardless of their chosen discipline.

The Vice-Chancellor also revealed that a course on project management will be available as the university takes a keen interest in managing its own business. Ultimately, the vision for the University of Kabwe is to foster a community that produces professionals with core values and ethics that will extend beyond the boundaries of their professional lives. The courses offered by the university aim to provide their graduates with the most comprehensive skill sets that will enable them to excel in any field they choose. With the university’s commitment to maintaining appropriate values and ethics, it is expected that the future graduates from the institution will be well-rounded individuals equipped with the skills needed to add value to society.
