The UPND has criticized its Party Chairperson for Special Duties William Banda over his comment against New Heritage Party President Chishala Kateka and have asked him to explain himself for issuing unjustified remarks against the woman who was only exercising her right to demonstrate as a citizen.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, MR. Banda is heard mockingly asking Ms Kateka what kind of hunger is being experienced in her home in reference to the lone protest she held on Wednesday over high levels of hunger in the country due to the rising cost of living.
But Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa said ms Kateka has the right to freedom of expression and to hold the government accountable.

Addressing the media in Lusaka today, Mr Mweetwa says the party believes and respects the rights and contribution of women to society and any statement that aims at demeaning women has no blessings from the party.

Mr Mweetwa has since urged the New Heritage Party leader and the women movement in the country not to be swayed in their exercising of their duty and rights as citizens.
