Edgar Lungu, the sixth President of Zambia has warned incumbent Hakainde Hichilema of a ´quick power loss´ that might occur before the 2026 elections on account of heavy-handedness by state police.
The former head of state said there is ´growing concern of excessive and uncalled for force´ on ordinary citizens especially those from opposition and civil society that could annoy them and result into an early exit from power by President Hichilema.
“I am saying to the police hold your horses because you might precipitate a situation where President HH is forced to give up power sooner than later before 2026,” said Mr Lungu.
The former President cautioned, “I am saying so (early exit of President Hichilema) because people will rise for being tear gassed and other forms of harassment at the hands of the police.”
President Lungu was speaking after finding himself in the middle of a kerfuffle alongside cadres and supporters that went to give support to the Secretary General of the main opposition Patriotic Front who was detained overnight for stating last November that some ballot papers destined a for a named polling stations could have been pre-marked.
“The government must focus on fixing going wrong in the country (such high cost of living) instead of tear gassing innocent Zambians I am advising the police please hold your horses,” Mr. Lungu said.
The former President added that he is not afraid of either being shot dead as he legally participates in national politics after his return last October from retirement neither is he afraid of being ´tear gassed´ as threatened by over zealous police that seem to have forgotten that not so long ago, he was the Commander in Chief of Zambia.
Tensions have been rowing in Zambia between the opposition, civil society, and the government of Mr Hichilema whose police chief has banned all sorts of public democratic gathering.
The former President whose party PF now belongs to a movement called UKA that has shown a tremendous growth across the country advised the police to bring their trigger-happy behaviour a notch down before they spoil a term of office for President Hichilema.
Someone needs to caution ECL. He is inciting anarchy in the country. When he says people are angry is he inferring to his few notorious followers? People that break the law must be picked up by police. Nacachinda is very vocal and not on the truth
Some people don’t think before they aticculate what is burning in their mind.
Just because you enjoy immunity, then you should break the law with impunity? The UPND government is a government of laws not hooliganism. If you commit treason, you will lose immunity immediately just in the same way you lost your benefits when you decided to rejoin actictive politics. So tread very carefully Lungu. And don’t be cheated that you’re popular. The majority of Zambians detest you with the contempt you deserve
Immunity only applies to omissions and commissions committed during holding office. That does not include any after holding office. He needs to be careful.
Lungu is really bitter aaaaah, this Man would done whatever it takes to put HH behind bars if he won 2021 elections
ECL has already committed treason!
Arrest him immediately!
He is setting very bad example to young politicians!
Remove his immunity so that he stops breaking the law with impunity just because he enjoys immunity!
This ECL is like a Pig that enjoys wallowing in political mud!
And this tardy New Dawn government of President HH must learn to act with a sense of urgency!
For ECL to start issuing threatening statements of removing a Democratically elected president from office, means there must be something big he is planning with the aid of his mercenaries!
A man whose name is linked to Rebel activities in Rwanda making such bold and daring statement meant to bring anarchy in the nation should not be treated with kid gloves!
He is a grown up and must account for every careless utterance!

There’s no need of removing immunity. Offences committed after holding office are not part of immunity.
ECL must be very careful with what he says. He risks finding himself in serious trouble if he continues like this.
HH is a very sharp guy, EL, thinks HH is scared of him, so he goes on ranting, at one point he will let his guard down and the cowboy will strike with a lethal punch

Edger lungu is a fool that must be caged for treason.under his reign hh was not allowed to campaign and how many people where shot dead by the police.mr lungu must be dreaming to think we have forgotten his mediocre leadership .Nakachinda is a law breaker who deserves all he is going through.A former president who is supposed to be a father to the nation reduced to a cadre.

The law should visit this unwise and disgraced former president. He became president through dubious schemes and through manipulation. A corrupt and drunkard and tyrant former president and crooked person. It is time for government to remove his immunity so that he can face the law for the atrocities and crimes he committed while in office.
Ba Lungu, you dragged us through hell during your reign and we did not rise up to prematurely end your reign of terror. We patiently waited for the right time to get rid of you. And we did, peacefully through the ballot.
So if you think the police are being rough on you and that this is a popular feeling, just wait for 2026. We the voters will render our verdict. Donot try the shortcut route. It always ends in tears.
Mr. Lungu’s utterances should not be taken lightly. This is a very desparate man who can resort to desparate measures. Mr. Lungu and his family became immensely wealthy in an inexplicable way to the extent his wife would entrust US$400000 to a niece for safekeeping.
This man must be watched carefully. He has a tendency to cause chaos. His PF is the true representation of hypocrisy, lies and lawlessness.
Kelvin S KameyaECL’s utterances inciting Zambians to rise against a legitimately elected government is treasonable. I wonder what kind of a president we had In office for 7 Years who is a lawyer by profession but does not understand what treasonable utterances mean. Sure of all the people Lungu can come out and call for the uprising against a legitimate government? Let his immunity be uplifted so that he appears in court to answer to treasonable charges of inciting citizens to rise against a legitimately elected government and he should not cry foul that the government is after his life when he is inviting troubles for himself. I even wonder what kind of law he studied am sure it’s not from University of Zambia as he claims.
