Leader of the opposition Brian Mundubile has bemoaned the arrest and detention of EEP president Chilufya Tayali.
Speaking at Ibex Police Station in Lusaka when he attempted to visit Tayali, Hon Mundubile lamented that freedom of expression which President Hakainde Hichilema promised Zambians is another failed promise.
He however called on the Head of State to govern the country using the rule of law as he promised prior to elections last year.
Commenting on the “loud silence” which the “vibrant” media team UPND had while in the opposition, Hon Mundubile said the team has been mute because they have realized that most the things promised were not true.
“That vibrant team is unable to speak now because they have realized that most of the things they said were not true. they realized that most of the promises made cannot be actualized,” he said.
“So we want to call upon the leadership of the UPND, including the President himself that he should live by his undertaking, his promise to govern this country using the rule of law.”
Meanwhile, Hon Mundubile disclosed that he was unable to see the opposition leader who remains in police custody without a charge since his arrest yesterday.
With regards to the same case, the lawmaker said what is happening is sad development.
“We had a chance to see the officer in charge who mentioned to us that he is under very strict instructions that no one should see Chilufya Tayali. Therefore, we were unable to see him because we were not given access,” he said.
“If Tayali made a political statement, a political statement should only be traversed by a political statement. We know that in opposition the UPND had a very vibrant media team when they were making promises, what has happened to that vibrant team?”
