UPND EASTERN PROVINCE CHAIRLADY ARRESTED
Police in Chipata have arrested and charged UPND Eastern Province Chairlady, Hellen Phiri and others known but who are on the run with unlawful assembly.
This follows UPND youths divulging police directive not to go ahead with the peaceful demonstrations on 8th October 2020 after notifying the Police.
Diamond Television reports that, Phiri and other youths allegedly staged a protest in the bush against the ongoing online voter pre-registration exercise and in demand for democracy in the country.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner, Luckson Sakala has confirmed the arrest of the UPND official to Diamond news.
He adds that police are looking for the other known UPND youths who have allegedly gone into hiding.
Sakala says Phiri will soon appear before the courts of law.
